I think OP was adding the "too" because you mentioned Spartacus and not to correct anything you wrote. OP is trying to say that both have a disturbing amount of nudity.

Spartacus was great. I'm still sad about Andy Whitfield. Way too young, and according to people I know who knew him, a really lovely, down to earth guy.

Spartacus is the most incredible show ever made.

I agree. I like nudity, but in WW, it isn't contextual. I feel like Newton has to be nude every episode, either because HBO wants it or she wants it. It's unnecessary. Same with ERW's nudity. I like nudity, but I don't like feeling like the show I am watching feels it needs to be semi-pornographic to engage its viewers.

I am not saying that nudity is BAD. I am saying it's like A1 steak sauce. You don't put A1 on good steak. It doesn't need it for flavor. You add nudity to a show that needs to boost ratings. My point is simply that most artists (etc) use nudity to compensate for bad art. True Blood is garbage TV, but it has lots of six-pack shots for the ladies.

As far as I'm concerned, there has been no porn in this show, just undraped machines. It still doesn't explain why people think the naked human form is so horrifying but they're quite happy to watch explosions of blood as someone's face gets blown off.

I don't like seeing violence. I certainly watch spy movies, but mostly for car chases. I watch car chases on youtube. I never watch gore. I HATE watching anything like torture in a movie.

To me, photography isn't an art. That's my bias. I understand that many people would argue with that. Anyhow, to me, it's hard for sculpture or painting to be soft porn, but very easy for a photographic medium to be soft porn. In the sculpture you linked, I don't see those sculpted figures as people. I see them as representations of people. In film, people look much more like people.

I do get that we are supposed to feel how sexually exploited the hosts are. They are treated like meat.

In my earlier posts, I did try to reveal my bias. I am very attracted to ERW. So, I already have pornographic thoughts about her. That's on me.

My point in linking that exhibition is that nudity has been show cased by artists from time immemorial. I don't understand why some people are offended by the natural human form. There is nothing gratuitous or sleazy about the nudity in this show, except for maybe Charlotte who I simply think is a bit of a sleaze, but Tessa has a gorgeous figure so I'm not going to poo poo her being nude.

I just fail to comprehend what sets people off in shows like this. Case in point, in Black Sails there is a stunning scene for maybe 3 seconds of two men, fully clothed, kissing. Caused a meltdown on the net, yet the same people didn't bat an eyelash at two scenes depicting decapitations. God forbid the actual sex scene between two men who loved each other hadn't been left on the cutting room floor. The net would have imploded.

My sensibility is very Hellenic. I like the body and extremely pro body and pro sex.

When I see an attractive naked women, I don't feel appreciation. I feel white hot sexual desire. This distracts me. It's not an ideological thing. You seem to be discussing it like an idea, an ideological thing.

I never used the word "sleaze". Maybe that's the confusion. I don't think the word "pornographic" is derogatory. I by no means think that the X-rated movie The Ribald Tales of Canterbury is high art on par with Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, but I have enjoyed both.

There are no lovemaking scenes with nudity. That's the odd part. I really don't like sex scenes in which the two people are clothes, because I never have sex like that. I love to see the woman I am with and kiss every inch of her body. It's NOT just about getting off. I worship beautiful female bodies (my type is gymnast/athlete). Anyhow, the nudity might seem gratuitous because it's not connected with any sex. It's always during examination.

It's excessive because it's not organic to any action (sex), unless examination is an action. Also, the deactivated hosts are naked. This isn't naked Bill and naked Sookie taking a bath in True Blood. Indeed, I never would have felt that that nudity was excessive.

As for being offensive, only by being excessive, in the way that excessive mood music in a soundtrack can be offensive.

I think the OP just started this thread because she didn't get any replies to her other thread saying the show is terrible and boring, so the next best thing she could think of was 'excessive' and 'disturbing' nudity.

Im not that obsessed with the human body, but i do get what he means though, because Evan Rachel Wood looks nice and once you start to like the looks of someone, certain thoughts are soon to appear in the mind as well.
And at that point, i dont actually need to see her naked, being attracted to someone can be enough in itself sometimes.

Revealing too much can sometimes be disappointing or taking away the tension, although, i thought Evan passed the inspection :P


But im in a similar position as Chillpill, physical attraction plays an important part, and nudity isnt taboo either, but i dont usually want to combine this with regular TV shows or movies, it is distracting, even if its "functional nudity".
I purposely dont watch romantic movies because i have no desire to look at a couple of people falling in love and having sex, i save those desires for a different moment hehe

But yeah, thats also my problem, because not everyone thinks the same, but i dont see any particular added value of showing them nude as much as they do, the characters in the show are already denigrating and humiliating the hosts a lot, plus i was already drawn in by the concept of the show, so it kinda feels like the nudity is not really meant for me, but to draw in a different audience too.
