Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

The original Battlestar Galactica.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

I was putting that one on my list and forgot. I was a huge fan of the original battlestar galactica - galactica 1980 not so. Return of Starbuck was a good Galactica 1980 episode (very wierd and sad for a fan of Starbuck).

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

I have a lot of fondly remembered sci-fi shows from the 70s, but for me it always comes back to BSG. For a kid looking to get his post-STAR WARS fix, BSG was just what the Dr. ordered. The music, the production values, the perfromances. It was just so far ahead of anything on TV at the time. But BSG: 1980 is just so... odd.

I'll also toss in BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY, LOGAN'S RUN & SPACE: 1999.

Now playing: Street Hawk http://saturdayshowcase.blogspot.com

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

I loved logan's Run, with Greg Harrison, and Heather Menzies. My sister found the only season on DVD, and bought it for me. It's special effects are obviously 'dated now, but back then, WOW!

The original Battlestar Galactica.
Space 1999.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

Does the Tomorrow People count, as it was shown on a week day?

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

The tomorrow people would count for sure. I saw some of the episodes off of Nickelodeon network in the USA - odd for them to show it but they only showed one season that wasn't as good as some of the highlights of other seasons. still that show was great in the 70's!!!!!

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

Land Of The Giants (1969-70)
Shazam! (1974)
The Return Of Captain Nemo (1978)

I know Shazam! is fantasy rather than sci-fi, but it is close enough to sci-fi I guess.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

Circle of Fear (though that was more horror) and Night Gallery were favs.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

Six Million Dollar man
Battlestar Galactica
In Search Of....(if that counts)

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

"The Six Million Dollar Man"
"The Bionic Woman"
"Battlestar Galactica"
"The Incredible Hulk"

"Manimal" was an 80's show by the way.

Forgive your enemies. It messes with their heads.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman.

Man from Atlantis was good too but short lived series.

My mum loved The Incredible Hulk and I liked it as well but not as much as above.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

Six Million Dollar Man and Logan's Run were my favorites.

Re: Favorite Sci Fi shows of the 70's

I was really surprised to find out just how many SF shows came out of the 70s and how few I've seen. I own, or want to own, all of these. During the pandemic caused by China I was able to watch the entire series of them all.

1. The Night Stalker - one of the great single season series, it is fascinating, spooky and even funny, McGavin is perfectly cast as Kolchak
2. The Six Million Dollar Man - I expected the 5th (and last) season to be disappointing, but it turns out to be the best, I have to wonder what happened to cancel this show after such a strong season, hats off to Lee Majors, he brought his A game to the final season (especially doing stuntwork) and it shows
3. Battlestar Galactica - there are some downright bad episodes, a few really good ones and several in between but I really like the cast, the look, the production, if only the writing were stronger but still a lot of fun, ends on a high note and this show had so much untapped potential
4. Logan's Run - another single season entry and the most surprising, I fully expected to hate this show but I enjoyed it even more than the movie, Gregory Harrison and Heather Menzies really grew on me and featured some first rate SF writing, a shame it was canceled
5. Star Trek TAS - for a Saturday morning cartoon show, this series has some very weighty stories, the animation is crude, it was nice to see they got the original crew back together
6. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century - very campy and silly but it somehow works, this one managed to last two seasons, though the second is largely reviled I thought it was pretty good, still a step down from the first season, it helps to have attractive women in tight outfits
