Westworld : Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

In their first meet-up at night, he says the regulars can be killed, yet Marsden's bullets do no damage to him, yet he kills Marsden. Huh?

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

Marshes is a robot

Marsden is a robot

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

Marsden is a robot. We don't know that the man in black is in fact a robot.

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

We don't know that the man in black is in fact a robot.

He IS a robot, first of all because he is supposed to be the Gunslinger from the original 1973 movie played by Yul Brynner back then (and he was the most dangerous robot in the film).

Second, the robots in Westworld can NOT hurt guests, and Marsden character repeatedly shoots Ed Harris causing an impact on him every time. The most likely reasons about the man in black not being affected by them is because either he has already developed a more advanced AI and he is not willing to continue with the charade for the sake of the entertainment of humans, or because there is a serious issue with his programming. Or both.

But it is a fact, the man in black IS a robot.

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

You could be right which is pretty sick. How come the programmers don't know about him though?

I was wondering about this as well, because although they haven't mentioned it, you would think there would be a pretty sophisticated surveillance program in place. I was thinking that if he was an ordinary person, then management should be able see what he's doing. It would actually make more sense if he was an advanced robot that he would be able to bypass that monitoring system.

This is your life, and it's ending one IMDb post at a time.

The Man in Black is NOT a robot.

That's not a good reason.

Second, the robots in Westworld can NOT hurt guests, and Marsden character repeatedly shoots Ed Harris causing an impact on him every time.

And you don't see a drop of blood. The other robots bleed profusely. That indicates that the impacts are no more harmful than paint-ball rounds, without the paint.

But it is a fact, the man in black IS a robot.

A fact, eh?

I certainly thought this was the case on first viewing, but I'm not so sure now.

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

Not sure where you're getting that Ed Harris is a robot.

He makes several references to being a park guest: - says he's been coming to the park for 30 years, figuring out that the game makers pair up the robots in order to provide guests with a "loser" for them to win against, making observations about tweaks to Teddy and Dolores since his last visit, stating he "didn't pay all this money for it to be easy", and "it feels good to be back"

Plus he's introduced with Jeffrey Wright talking to Dolores specifically about the newcomers.

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

Marsden is a robot. His role is to always be coming back to his long lost love and then dying to a bad guy regular person. Then next day coming back on the train after repairs. That is his routine

If someone hates you for no reason, give that jerk a reason :)

Re: Man in Black says newcomers can't be killed, yet he kills Marsden

How could you miss the fact that he was a programmed part of the park? They even show him at the end again in the care of the scientists.

Hey wait a minute, he may be a wooden actor but there's no need to call him a robot
