Westworld : Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
I agree, I would have liked to see it unfold that way too.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
It's incredibly obvious the writing in this show is terrible. It's a mess. It was a terrible pilot.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Extremely disappointing pilot, and that's putting it kindly.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Jonathan Nolan needs to stop getting writing gigs. He's the king of expository dialogue.
There's nothing worse than two characters exchanging backstory information that they should already know, and the premier episode of Westwirld wreaked of it. Same as interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Dark Knight.
In fact, in Westworld, this could've been solved if they took the route that the OP suggested, with introducing the park (and show) through the eyes of a new guest to the park.

Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
OP that's an interesting perspective. But I don't think there could be much wonder in seeing a normal looking Wild West.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
We thought we were in the eyes of a guest. It shows that both the guests (newcomers) and surrogates are both robots to the hosts. Acting out a script.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Hell no, best part was seeing the behind the scenes stuff
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
So you're saying that when the female corporate bigwig was putting the British dimwit in his place whilst on the outside balcony, and did so by correcting his grammar (while smoking), that that's not good writing!
For shame, good sir!

Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
But the original movie set that all up already. The question from the original movie was Why? The robots had the glitch in the first place.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
The premiere was already better than the cheesy, poorly acted film. No emvarassing Richard Benjamin type performances.

Anathema!
It's not my goddamn planet. Understand, monkey boy?
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Couldn't agree more.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
I agree we should have seen the story through a first guest's eyes. Instead we're trying to kept track of it through robo's programmed eyes. The orignal movie was great but we're going to get some type of robo virtue signalling and some transpecies bs about humans abusing machines.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Or maybe introducing us to this world from Delores' point of view ties in precisely with the theme of this version of the Westworld mythos.
Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
Disagree
I think the show is as much about sense of doom and disaster around the corner as much about its story of the world itself.
The pilot pretty well established there is no way this can end in good for anybody.

Re: Writers got the wrong end of the stick.
What a wasted opportunity. We viewers should have been introduced to Westworld through the eyes of a first time guest, to see the wonder of the place, just like the movie did. All the behind the scenes action should have been held off until later.
Yeah, that's the ticket. Follow the formula. Don't try anything new.
