Westworld : Did you like the first episode?

Did you like the first episode?

Yes I did! I really like it so far

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Yes.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I liked it a lot. There's a lot of mystery and intrigue going on.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Hell no. Won't be back next week. Just don't care.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

That's a relief. See you next week

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I did, not exactly a great season premiere, but a good one.

"Valley girls giving blowjobs for Louboutins, what you call that? Head over heels?"

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I liked it. I didn't love it.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I think it's amazing! Better than GOT season 6 all ready IMO lol

Re: Did you like the first episode?

You're fckin high! While I too have enjoyed this premiere, better than a whole season of the highest rated television show ever? Come off it.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

GOT is my favorite show ever but season 6 really lacked that special something for me atleast

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I agree that I enjoyed some seasons a bit more overall but the show is finally shaping up for its final act and the main plot is moving fast. I'm just hoping they'll find a way to send the show off in a way that the show deserves. But all the ground pieces are long set and the characters are finally going to converge. Battle of the bastards, despite its flaws, was brilliantly filmed. Commeee onnn lol.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I found BOTB incredibly weak writing wise. Everything from tactics to motivations are all over the place. It's very pretty but even some of the cig is spotty.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

It's because GoT is getting old. Sorry to say that but for me the whole topic is washed-out.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Game of Thrones has had a huge dip in quality over the last two seasons. I think many people generously chose to ignore it but to me there is a clear quality difference between seasons 1-4 and the newer ones.

That being said, I think this show has promise but I have to watch a couple more episodes first to see. So far, the first episode has been better than Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad but that doesn't mean much. Some shows have lukewarm starts but end up great or vice versa.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Nope. Incredibly disappointing. Acting ranged from mediocre to craptastic apart from Hopkins. Harris was alright. The British technician and his female counterpart were beyond sh!tty. No tension in the writing. Too drawn out. Piss poor cliche-ridden dialogue. Worst hour of tv I've seen in a long time.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Great first episode liked it a lot. Wasn't sure with all the talk but it lived up to the hype, a cool new Sci Fi show and another HBO hit.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I like it! Happy to see a hard sci for show and a fantastic cast. I hope it can continue to deliver.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I liked it a lot! I tuned in for James Marsden, he never disappoints. Im not really a fan of westerns, but its good so far.

Hot guys + dark subject matter + plenty of violence = watchable television.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

It showed promise, I think that's all you can really expect from a pilot honestly. It's invariably always the worst episode because it has to spend time introducing characters and the premise which is always a tough ask while retaining the audience.

I found her but now she is gone

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I was not blown away. I think it needs more suspense.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

No. Poor writing and acting. The scene where the two execs were standing outside (and one was smokingughh) was about the worst acting and dialog I have seen in a long time.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I kept thinking of the female as Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I didn't think it was very good but I'll stick with it for awhile.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I don't know. Like most HBO series, the opening credits are the best part.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Yes, I enjoyed it very much.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

It needs some work. Some of the sub plots were discussed in heavy exposition with no mystery yes, the management of Delos has a dastardly, dark secret. They just basically spoon fed you that nugget.

The scenes at the Delos headquarters and the scenes in the park almost felt disconnected as if they were part of two completely different shows. Maybe they had to shoot all of the scenes with the puppet masters separately over a short period of time in order to placate Sir Anthony Hopkins, who is very temperamental as an actor and very expensive, and they couldn't afford to do re-shoots to integrate those scenes more smoothly with the western scenes.

Some of the cast is very bland so far. Evan Rachel Wood is outstanding as Delores and hopefully Ed Harris will become even more dreadfully sinister as the season progresses. Everyone else just felt a little "off," a little wooden and distant.

Marsden was okay and similar to the goody-two-shoes he always plays. Maybe they'll make him become more unhinged and turn him from the friendly cowpoke with dreams of settling down with his girl Dolores into a more dangerous character.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

It was okay.

I think future episodes will be more interesting.

Will the hosts become self-aware and rebel? What is the true reason for Westworld? Is it a test by the military? Perhaps the plan is to use hosts in real wars? Hosts as soldiers sent into war zones. The woman that smoked a lot said there was another reason for the project so it's likely it's for military purposes.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

They've already set up the fact that the hosts are going off script and becoming fully sentient and unpredictable.

If they follow the movies, Delos is becoming a front for an evil corporation in order to exchange world leaders and the rich and powerful for robot duplicates who will do the bidding of Delos outside the park world domination.

The robot hosts are going to start rebelling and fighting back. Perhaps some will take the side of humans and others will want to destroy their masters. Kind of like the remake of Battlestar Galactica and the movie Ex Machina crossed with some bits and pieces from Crichton's original screenplay and The Planet of the Apes franchise, but with robots.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Check out the movie FutureWorld. Nolan and Joy may be following that sequel's plot in some respects for the Delos management.

The hosts already are self aware, the Delos team just keeps them on a tight leash. They're waking up and finding out their existence is a fabrication. They're not in a dream, they're in a nightmare.

This is what Delores' "dad" figured out and wigged out.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Agree completely. It felt like the writing really needed someone to come in and clean it up. Showrunners love when they get creative control, but this is a counterexample of where some oversight was needed and i'm sure the execs at HBO cringed through the exposition scenes as much as I did.

I also felt the disconnect between the corporate headquarters and the world. It felt far too removed from what was going on inside west world and when the broken down hosts would be bought in for diagnoses it felt like they were teleported. They should have shown how the worlds are connected, and the way the management "views" what is going on inside the world with that large screen doesn't help the disconnect either.

Too much exposition (scene downstairs with the cowboy host having shots with Hopkins' character where he says "he was the second model we ever built, would be given away by his handshake" etc. was really bad) and far too much telegraphing of future events in the conversations.

The "corporation being reckless because profits" trope is also overdone and now a cliche - and despite being such a poor motivation it is so far the only motivation we have for anybody inside management.

Still like the show, despite its faults, but it could be improved in many simple ways to make it a classic.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Yes, thought it was a good pilot. Not fantastic, but good. To see where this is heading will be interesting (well, hopefullylol) :)

Let me show you the deep raw passion of unbridled sexual frenzy. But Lucy im British

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Pretty much loved every second off it. The cinematography, editing, music, acting, and the effects. Loved all of it. I was a big fan of the 1973 movie when I was a kid, I even rewatched it so I could better catch any Easter eggs before the premiere. While I think the movie has aged pretty well, so far the show looks like it's going to eclipse it.

The highlight moment for me was Dolores's dad getting interviewed when he was glitching. The actor playing Mr Abernathy was superb. He ran a gambit of emotions and expressions. I really do hope he's an analogue of Yul Brenner's character from the movie. He'll be a horror. Plus I think Dolores's actress did a great job of making her character seem like it was saying scripted dialogue. "It doesn't look like anything at all to me." That was perfectly delivered twice. Yet felt off and too because of it's perfect delivery.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

Ed Harris is playing the Gunslinger roll that Yul Brenner made famous in the original movie, it's just that they exchanged a malfunctioning robot host for a psychopathic human guest.

Yes, indeed, the scene with Delores' "father" and Hopkins was one of the best exchanges in the whole pilot. Chilling.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I don't think Ed Harris's MiB is a play on the Gunslinger. I think he's just supposed to show the worst side of the guests' indulges on the hosts. And build mystery about his so called deeper level.

I really do think that the father is going to be a modern analogue of Yul's character. Cause the actor was so steely eyed. I can truly see him as modern update. Plus just think about his past programmed lives: Devoted father that tends his herd, town sheriff. plus verbose and educated cannibal. Just think about what you'd get if you have that cocktail of personalities going after the guests. He's be a horror. I can see him taking the MiB's gear and eating him after, after ten years of watching Ed rape and murder his daughter.

Though actually, I'm pretty sure that Dolores will be the one to get her revenge the MiB. HeheI can see her killing him and then saying, "Doesn't look like anything to me."

Re: Did you like the first episode?

I do want to keep watching, I'll put it that way.

I didn't know if I liked it until I thought about it a bit the next day.

Is it just very subtle? I'm not sure why I'm quite so interested in seeing how it develops, there was no wow moment other than the cinematography.

Stories have to have a beginning and introducing a setting and characters can be tedious.

Re: Did you like the first episode?

it was decent, i'll keep up with the show
