Star Trek : Balok in "Return of the Archons"

Balok in "Return of the Archons"

I'm pretty sure that in the exterior scenes where the crew is fleeing the summoned "body" of the townsfolk, that "Reger's" (Harry Townes') voice is being dubbed by Walker Edmiston, the voice of Clint Howard's "Balok" from "The Corbomite Manuever."

I have no idea why this was done, but it sure doesn't sound like Harry Townes, and it sure does sound like tiny Balok.

Re: Balok in "Return of the Archons"

I would have to pop in ROTA to verify your statement. It would not be surprising as Edmiston did extensive voice work during that time. Probably the audio was discovered to be imperfect during post production and Townes most likely was not available to fix it if I had to guess. Just call Edmiston and have him read a few lines of dialog and it's done. I remember seeing Edmiston's name in the credits on the Walton's for the Pearl Harbor episode as the voice of the radio newsman which may have been his real voice. For anybody familiar with The Land of the Lost from the 1970's Edmiston played Enik the Sleestak so we do not see Walker in the flesh there either.

Re: Balok in "Return of the Archons"

You do know that Rejer's got rooms.

Re: Balok in 'Return of the Archons'

I asked that BILAR guy what was the deal with "Come for the festival A-Ya?"

He said the director told him it was late 1800s New England.

Re: Balok in 'Return of the Archons'

So, in late 1800's New England, grown men referred to the fathers of grown women as "your Daddy?" :)

Re: Balok in 'Return of the Archons'

Term is still used today:

"Who's yo daddy?"

Re: Balok in "Return of the Archons"

Yes, it is very noticable and indeed it's Walker Edmiston's voice.

Most probably, as they were shooting outdoors, they had to loop the dialogs in post-production, because of the noise, however Harry Townes was not available due to acting in some other project, and they had to hire a voice actor to dub him.

"A voice from behind me reminds me. Spread out your wings you are an angel."

Re: Balok in "Return of the Archons"

Wasn't he also one of the Providers on Triskelion? I'd bet 20 quatloos on it.
