The Sorcerer's Apprentice : why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

seriously, can't they go one movie without a forced love story?

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

I liked both love stories because unlike the usual puppy dog story, the young lovers are contrasted with the older lovers who have been under forced separation for centuries yet their loved never wavered. It adds further dimensions to the characters of Dave and Balthazar and how they interact with one another.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

I hated both love stories. A ridiculous amount of cheese was involved.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

Right with you OP

Its like a writers fomula .

Must be lovable loser, gets an upgrade of destiny induced power and must have a hot love intrest ( no matter how unlikely ) to prove his virility .

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

I ask that same question.

It's their ridiculous notion that they think more females will watch it if there's romance.

It's the same logic that they use to make a movie like the King's Speech PG-13.

Some movies don't need romance like some movies just aren't going to be watched by pre-teens.

What an excellent day for an exorcism

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

If there was no romance, then how would Dave and Balthazar come to empathize and understand one another so quickly?

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

By talking to each other.

But wait..thats to hard.

And our heroes might come off too soft and not manly and awesome enough.

I think Im in my cynics phase..

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

also, 'the one true love' in everyone's life is always some girl (or boy) they meet at a really young age - usually they don't even know them that well - and somehow still hang on to some silly childhood crush 10-20 years later.
people change and they might not even be compatible when they're in their 20s, or 30s.

Then again, it is fiction and fairy-tale romances exist in fiction :)

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

Yeah

And
Especially those hot girls, very pleasant and understanding, totally in love with the ugly loser guy.

For once I would like to see something different: The ugly and unwanted girl having the love story of her life with the hottest guys.

No, that will destroy the fantasy of every guy on Earth.

Movies clich are sometimes very annoying, you really have to go outside to live and see how real world is cuz movies can trick peoples brain.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

In general, women care more about a man's personality than his looks. She might be initially attracted to a "hot" guy, but he has to treat her right in order for her to want to stay with him. He doesn't have to be "hot" for her to like him.
Physical attraction is more important to a man than it is to a woman.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

So true Nancynhac. Women that only go for looks (or money) usually end up unhappy. And some really good looking women actually complain that it's hard to find a date because average guys don't think they would want to be with them.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

There are enough of those movies as well. It usually involves a make-over scene, montage with crappy upbeat backgound music, transforming her from grey mouse with glasses to a generic "hot girl". It's just that these are usually in different kinds of movies, so you have seen less of them, but they are there. Do you remember Breakfast Club for example? Ally Sheedy got this treatment there in order to appeal to the hot guy (Emilio Estevez).

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

As soon as we saw young Becky on the bus, I knew exactly what the story would be with her. I hoped I was wrong - but I wasn't.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

Because women. Lower your standards, make everything as generic as possible and them put as many cliches that appeal to as many demographics as possible and that is how Hollywood hopes to make as much money as possible.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

My thoughts exactly! Its like so you're the hero that's going to save the world but youo're going to have dates in between training and trying to not get killed it's dumb

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

Honestly, what the heck is wrong with you people? What happened to make you all so bitter and hate-filled?

It's nice to see love stories in movies etc. They're sweet and uplifting. Besides that the reason so many movies have them is because love is the greatest force for good in existence and it gives us the strength and resolve to overcome obstacles. Heck, love is what makes us "good" in the first place, since without love we would be a race of complete monsters.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

Not bitter, just honest.

The love story felt slammed on and serving no purpose at all. He had a job, he had a destiny . But hey lets slam in a love interest plot wise cause every hero has one.
Because its destiny , because its meant.

Because its contrived and pointless. Adding nothing to the film.

"The love story felt slammed on and serving no purpose at all."

I already told you it served a very important purpose.

"He had a job, he had a destiny ."

Yes and he could never have acheived it if it hadn't been for the courage he gained from Becky's love and support.

"Because its contrived and pointless. Adding nothing to the film."

Besides, you know, making it a lot more enjoyable.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

The lack of box office proves otherwise

That has got to be the most cheesy comment I have ever seen on IMDB. Maybe you should lay off the romcoms a bit.

Re: why must every hollywood flick have a crappy love story?

So to be honest , the love story is to make the character more relatable.

Because trying your best isn't enough.

You have to be trying it for a hot chick.

I mean saving the world is nice but a hot chick has to part of the reason.

Because movie executive's are guys who go with what they think will work
