Wild Horses : Yet another vanity piece

Yet another vanity piece

Like Homesman, Tommy Lee Jones' vanity piece, this was a personal project for Robert Duvall. Not sure why all the pet projects tend to be so meandering I think they confuse "pointless" with "artistic." I'm actually a big fan of art films, but this really wasn't one of them.

Movies are IQ tests. The IMDB boards are each person's opportunity to broadcast their score.

Re: Yet another vanity piece

I agree that it reeks of a vanity piece.

There's lazy directing, amateur acting, amateur dialogue/script, poor editing choices. How can this be, you ask?

Director: Robert Duvall, Writers: Robert Duvall, Lead actress: Luciana Duvall

Well, therein lies the problem.

Don't bother with it.

Re: Yet another vanity piece

My principle question is: Has anybody ever seen a good movie that had the same writer or director and main actor? I've seen at least ten of them but couldn't tell that any of them was good.

Now I ask myself what's the problem: Directing and acting in the same movie blurs your mind even if you're a great renowned actor, is it too much stress doing two things at once or what?

I'm warned now and never am gonna watch a movie again if it has this constellation. Too often I've been deceived still always tried again.

It's like in other jobs: stick to what you're good at and leave the rest to people that are good in their business, period.

Re: Yet another vanity piece

Dances with Wolves and Braveheart come to mind as good movies where the director was the main actor but I do agree that generally they tend not to end up being successful.
