Superior Donuts : Lose the laugh track

Lose the laugh track

Or at least tone it down.

We watched this and while we like it and think it's funny, everything somebody says isn't hilarious.

I hope that, someday, TVs will come with a way to mute laugh tracks.

It's distracting enough to make me stop watching.

I do too. I agree that not everything said in a comedy is funny. I hate them whether they are audio add-ons or if the show was recorded/filmed in front of a live audience. Not everyone responds to jokes the same way. Some jokes aren't funny enough to laugh at to begin with. Over the years I have developed a tendency to tune the laughter out, However sometimes they are painfully obvious to me.

Back in the 1990s when I visited my sister in the L.A. area we attended some sit-com taping/filming episodes. For one Designing Women episode there was a part where the Julia Duffy character (I forget the character name) entered and they did a second take, but before the 2nd take they encouraged we the audience to make the laughs big. My sister refused to laugh cause it wasn't funny and they asked the audience to "fake" their laughter by making it "bigger". I think I just kind of sour grapes "hehe-ed" It was filmed and used 2 or 3 cameras and did retakes for different camera angles. One of the few details I recall about the episode is one of the characters brings in the groceries and had bought some water guns, super soakers. The actual filming had some bits from that scene that were much better than the scene edit that was aired. Maybe the water guns were not even shown in the final aired edit?
