Superior Donuts : Set reminds me of….
Re: Set reminds me of….
I'd have said Becker (1998) for the physical set. Others have commented on the concept being like Chico and the Man (1974) and probably a few other oddball-pairing sitcoms too. The initial encounter between the two main guys reminded me of Bill Cosby as Hilton meeting Doug E. Doug as Griffin from years back.
There isn't a lot new here but there need not be. It just needs good writing. They seem to have good chemistry and not a bad ensemble. It's way better than some other trash that somehow thrives on prime-time today. They need the writers to step up beyond playing with the racial stereotype gags alone.
Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.

I got the Becker impression as well or some other sitcom from the 90s.

My first thought was Mike & Molly

The fact that the entire episode took place in the donut shop made me think of Cheers. In the first season or two, they never went outside the bar. Not until the show blew up did they start using other sets for places. The writing will have to be very sharp if they intend on staying in the shop. I think it has potential.
