Fifty Shades Darker : I just started reading the first book and I have a question…

How come you don't see Christian being persistent about Ana eating in the first film?

He's more controlling in the book than he is in the movie. Any reason why?

The films have left out many aspects many important events and characters, in my opinion that the books have. Some may be due to time constraints, but I feel it's a disservice to the character development and the fans of the story.

Yeah, I figured it was because of time.

There are spoilers below, but stuff you probably heard.

My personal feeling is because EL couldn't take the heat she was getting about several aspects of her book. Everything controversial, she x'ed out. You have Ana's tampon scene, Ana's obvious eating disorder, Christian's emotional dominance, and the hazy consensual sex in Ana's bedroom that many still call a rape to this dayall for starters. For the movie, she rounded out Christian's negative traits, and sharp edges, and also gave Ana a personality.

You do make sense. I did hear about all of the controversial aspects and how people were up in arms about it. I just thought while watching the movie "isn't he supposed to be more controlling than this?" So that's when I decided to read the book.

I think she caved too much. She took the good dominant traits out of Christian for the movie. I know for me, I like a dominant man. I may get flacked for this, but I think a lot of women do too, many just won't admit it. Now, we all have a personal definition of what a dominant man can mean. I'm not talking about a dominant as in S & M, but more of an alpha male.

I think what many women liked in the books is that Christian took charge. He got $hit done. If he picked up the phone to close a deal, planned a trip, or pleasured his woman, he definitely got his $hit done. These men today who get manicures and worry about their feelings getting hurt over a shaded look need a mom, not a girlfriend. I make so many decisions in a day, I'd sell my neighbor's wife for a man to make a few for me. It'd be a relief, really, which is why we women get lost in our books and romance movies where these men reside.

Stacy, you've made many good points. Agreed that E.L. caved yet again (or maybe she faught and lost). I think they of course we're not going to film many of the more controversial things from the books. Understandable, but there were some that should've stayed, example was Dr Flynn, for my part, that was a mistake to cut him out. He is a key part to understanding Christian and why he is the way he is (screwed up childhood, etc).
As we all know, the movie(s) would be more than a couple hours long if they were to film every detail in the book.
I guess we can't have everything. I'm sure they did the best they could with what they had to work with (time constraints, budgets, etc).

Not everything can be in the movie, for sure. But the parts that support the character's arc, their growth throughout the story, should've been fleshed out better. There's Dr. Flynn, Jack Hyde, Christian's submissive scene which led to Ana being able to touch his no-go zones, and Elena's bitch slap.

These parts are integral to the arc as a whole, but were seriously under explained and rushed through, leaving the audience less satiated than expected. Again, this is just my opinion and others may have gotten a different experience. Hopefully for Freed, they can have someone point these things out, since clearly EL and team either aren't seeing them or care enough to fix it for her fans (not me).

Doesn't she safe word at the end of the first book and he ignores her and continues to beat her regardless? That leads to her leaving him, because of his betrayal of trust?

Ana forgets to use the safe word. She has a 4.0 gpa but a single word that could save her hours of pain eludes her. Ana is single handedly the worst written heroine in known written literature and in cave drawings. Seriously terrible.

Watching Darker I am seeing the story of a different Christian and a different Ana.
Ana is the focus and is leading now, James does not want to give any hints Christian is a rich man.
