Comedy : Why do people like Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Ferris Bueller's Day Off Is a mean-spirited movie. Ferris fakes that he's sick to cut school for the 9th time that year. He somehow even though he's "sick" goes to school and says his girlfriend's grandmother dies to have her leave school. He ropes his "best friend" Cameron into coming even though he's legitimately sick. Ferris then wrecks his friend's dads' car and everyone's getting concerned that Ferris is sick even the newspapers and the cubs have signs and articles saying save Ferris. In the end Cameron has to pay for what he didn't do and Ferris doesn't get caught. The one excuse everyone always gives me is that it's funny but that doesn't hide from the excuse that it's mean-spirited and after kids saw it they probably thought that they could do whatever they want and not get caught. So why do people like this movie?

I like it because of the theme: a guy wants a day off and he gets it. How many of us have wanted to play hooky from either work or school, even just once?

I enjoy it for its ridiculous twists and turns. It is pretty silly and really isn't meant to be taken seriously. I like its twists and turns just like I enjoy Raising Arizona. I don't condone screwing your friends over just like I don't condone baby napping, but both movies are very funny.

I did not read any other responses so I don't know what others have said. I, personally, liked this movie because it showed somebody brave and cunning enough to do the things I wished I could have done. I would never do the things Ferris did, but I enjoyed living vicariously through him. I really, really did not like the school Principal so it was great seeing him get his comeuppance as well. I think Ferris just wanted to have a fun day off with his friends and figured out how to use his "big gift" for some harmless fun. Granted, the car incident was costly, but I'd like to think it eventually brought Cameron and his dad closer to together in the end.

We had a "Lock-in movie night" at school at my high school and this was the movie shown. Even our teachers were laughing at Ferris' antics.

You're right, that kid was a selfish jerk. And in my opinion the movie wasn't even funny - it never made me laugh.

After what the main star did and more or less got off with in real life. I've had little to no respect for anything he's done.

Of course, if they had the ending I preferred, this film would be considered among the worst films ever by everyone EXCEPT us.
