BritComs : Mrs. Brown's Boys?

Mrs. Brown's Boys?

Anyone think it's funny?

I have a sick and twisted mind. Wanna be my friend?

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

Sadly it appears some do, haven't got a clue why.

Referring to any religion as a mental handicap sounds inappropriate, despite being true.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

Wat???? This show is funny I like the show it show that leave bloopers in while taping live

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I am a late convert to Mrs. Brown. I caught an episode by accident, having convinced myself that it was "beneath me", and now I try to watch all the re-runs. It is in the British tradition of "Old Mother Riley", and is reminiscent of the live comedy shows of the 1960s, when mistakes couldn't be re-shot.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

It has a sort of endearing quality about it but, no, it's not funny. Atleast, not in the same way that Father Ted, Blackadder, or One Foot In The Grave is.

MBB has the feel of a show written by committee whereby "jokes", light in humour, are delivered conveyor belt fashion much like American shows complete with over-exuberant canned laughter in the wrong places.

So you end up with a series of forgettable lines that don't add to a big satisfying belly laugh or an intensely poignant moment at the end.

Quite the opposite, in fact. It is very much the work of one man, Brendan O'Carroll, who writes, produces, and stars, together with casting his close family as regular characters. The audience is obviously not "canned", as they are shown at the beginning and end of the show.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

It's all relative. I think it is extremely funny with great characters, others hate it. They and I will never agree.

The Long Walk stops every year, just once.

No one in my neck of the woods.

Its all right Andy! Its just bolognaise!

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

one of best sitcoms around at the moment.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I think it's terribly unfunny. And I'm Irish. Dad likes it though.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I like it. I've always liked old biddies being played by men. Les Dawson was great at that sort of thing. Mrs Brown has got something of the same manner about her. But umpteen times as naughty. Great fun.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I loved it in the beginning but the joke is starting to wear a bit thin.

Whatever you do, don't waste your money watching the film! It was awful.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I haven't seen the film as yet. I've been put off what people on IMDb have said about it. There doesn't seem to be one single fan of D'Movie.

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I'm new to imdb as actualyy being a memeber but this is definitely the first chat room that caught my eye!!

Re: Mrs. Brown's Boys?

I would loved a chance to see D'Movie in a theater

My surname is one of the oldest recorded in England. I've chased down good Britcoms since I was first exposed to them on PBS as a teen in the 70s. I am extremely grateful that today's tech makes them so easily available in the states.
