Poldark : Where Did I See that Noble Face Before :) ?

Where Did I See that Noble Face Before :) ?

Serendipity? "The Illusionist" would say not.

I'm doing some Christmas preparations and just by chance (hmm) put "The Illusionist" in the DVD. Hadn't seen it in twelve years. I thought the little girl who played the noblewoman-heroine was SOO pretty. Flawless face. But she is noble and separated as a child from her true love. From this springs a film I think is underrated (and actually a good watch for anyone studying WWI history this centennial year).

I thought no more of the young actress, played by Jessica Biel as an adult. I had finished my Christmas work by the film's climax, and I paid attention to the credits.

Well, guess who plays the young noblewoman who does not own a single green dress but in whose story emeralds play a major role?

Right, Prudie!

Take that, Ross Poldark.

Re: Where Did I See that Noble Face Before :) ?

I have always heard this is a very good film and I am an avid movie watcher/goer but never saw this. I read Eleanor was in it. I guess I am going to have to try harder to see it because I have heard other people say its very good as well.

So is Beatie Edney in it as well? I didn't see her name in the list of actors on there...even when I clicked on the larger list.

Re: Where Did I See that Noble Face Before :) ?

Yes, Eleanor is in this film. My family enjoyed the movie, but it is not something we'd watch again.

I don't think Beatie Edney is in it. We saw her in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and in Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Mysterious Affair At Styles.

Hilary,

The Illusionist is one of my favorite films, having watched it several times since the DVD came out. I enjoy the American/British cast (/Edward Norton/Rufus Sewall), the mystery, and locations.

I read about Eleanor being the young Countess and remembered what she looked like immediately because I had researched both young actors months before Poldark began. She was very lovely then. Once that information was out, it was easy to remember the spirited you girl who was willing to sneak out to see her young hero.

In Death at Pemberley, she portrays Darcy's much younger sister with appropriate anxiety for the situation of being in love with a poorer man than FitzWilliam would want. The costumes were not that great, but the property was beautiful.

A Checkered Life speaks of myriad diverse adventures being the rewards of endless curiosity.

@ACL-- This movie is SOO underrated. First, it's loosely (but not too loosely) based on the real-life Mad Ludwig, who built Neuschwanstein (sp?) castle. Few people realize that it's a fanciful explanation for why Ludwig ended up "mad."

Second, next to Primal Fear, this is hands-down Edward Norton's greatest film role. The palpable religious themes, and the Illusionist's Jewish-sounding family name, make Rufus Sewell's final soliloquy so chilling.

Third, the film has Paul Giamatti's greatest performance, better than Sideways. He's a Pontius Pilate figure.

Back to "Poldark." The only unbelievable thing about this series is the idea that Eleanor Tomlinson's Demelza plays second fiddle in terms of allure to Heida Reed's Elizabeth. Tomlinson's beauty is the kind you'd sell a kidney for.

I am one of the few people in the western world who liked Death at Pemberley, but I don't recall her in it, so I'll have to root around for it.

Thanks!
