Poldark : What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

since PBS aired last nite's episode with a "viewer discretion advised"
warning i expected a rather frank scene. but zippo. i have seen sex scenes
far franker on regular network primetime t.v..

Re: What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

It wasn't for the sex itself, but for any remaining suggestion of coercion. But because the scene was edited, little of that remained. See the discussion near the end of this thread: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3636060/board/thread/262756611?p=2.

Re: What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

virtually all the shows i watch on a regular basis are on the CW
a regular network channel. to which i have seen scenes on the channel's
series that in terms of sexuality and or violence make the scene
as aired by PBS look like it was on the Disney Channel. so if the
CW has never felt is was necessary to have a "viewer discretion"
warning i don't see why PBS felt it was necessary?

Re: What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

It was utterly ridiculous and patronizing. They should've never edited it. You're right; I've seen worse on the broadcast channels.

Re: What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

I've seen worse on PBS...

Re: What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

i am glad that my fellow posters agree with me that the "viewer
discretion" warning on this past Sun.'s episode was unnecessary.

The CW et al. answer to their boards and stockholders.
PBS answers to every crank who gets elected from a mental backwater who wants to drum up headlines instead of work on a real problem. Remember the bozo who complained about the nudity in "Schindler's List" when a network broadcast it? Because a line of terrified naked women being driven into the gas chambers was just too sexy for him.

Re: What Was The "Viewer Discretion Advised" Warning For?

I never did figure that out either. I kept waiting for something horrendous to happen—and nothing! And I've seen the entire show on disk, and it had some missing snippets, but nothing I thought was anything that would offend anyone at 9:00 at night.
