I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

How long is Ross in prison?

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

In the book it was 5 days, give or take a day. Not having seen episode 2, it looks as if it will be just overnight.

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

lol

Thank you so very much.

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

Another interesting tibit from the novels that was not included but I kind of thought might get a mention, which is minor but plays into George's admiration/jealousy of Ross'high standing and respect among his peers is that one (or two) of the initial examining magistrates paid Ross' bail.

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

Alright now! You've given away more than was asked. LOL But since you did, what got them to reconsider? Was it public sentiment, the jury, Francis' letter/suicide, what? Also, have they turned on Warleggan or does he still own them?

I'm not really sure if I want to know yet. Use the spoiler blackout in your response just in case. lol

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

No, what I meant was when Ross was arraigned in the local magistrates court - Truro Goal, The scene with Robin Ellis as Reverend Halse/Chief Magistrate and Ross is told he will have to stand trial but until then he is let out on bail. In the novel the other magistrates (not the main judge) paid Ross' bail since Ross is broke. In the episode the viewer assumes that Ross paid his own bail and went home to Demelza to be tried in 5 days time.

George Warleggen in the episode in the scene when George and Ross are in Ross' cell states that he can use Ross' standing (the fact that Elizabeth, Francis, Lord Deveron, So and So all asked George to act on Ross') behalf sort of is related to the missing information (from the book) that important people of the higher class think Ross is of value - a different more direct way of conveying the same information.

Neither have a direct bearing of the outcome of the trial so I didn't think I was giving more information than was asked. I apologize for expounding on the simple fact of how many days in the goal.

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

No time at all, really. After appearing before the magistrates, he's released on bail. Then, he's just in gaol for the duration of the trial which I think lasts no more than a day or two.

EDIT Didn't see your reply, nmadura!

We were posting at the same time, you and I.

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST!!!

I'm like you with shows like this. I love spoilers. I mean I can literally watch the show as if no one has told me anything with the same anticipation even if I do know what is going to happen. I'm a bit of a weirdo I suppose but color me crazy. I sometimes can watch a movie or show I love over and over and it doesn't matter if I know what is coming. I can still sit there an in my mind think "Hmm I wonder if that will happen this time?". It's a silly thing but spoilers don't bother me at all most of the time.

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST #2

NEW QUESTION

Does Ross ever get out from under his debt? Does he ever get rich?

Re: I can't wait: SPOILER REQUEST #2

yes. But it took a while in the book.

Thank you

I can't watch: SPOILER REQUEST!!! – Episode 5

My eyelashes got wet during Francis' and Demelza's conversation. I'm afraid to watch the final ten minutes because I'm falling in love with him. Is this episode that Francis dies? How I hated him all throughout the first season.

Re: I can't watch: SPOILER REQUEST!!! – Episode 5

Yes, I'm afraid. And I've always found Francis to be a sympathetic, but tragic, character.

The conversation between Francis and Demelza, was one of my favourite in the books and the toast that Francis makes to Demelza, which unfortunately was cut out of this adaptation. I think Kyle Soller did a wonderful job of bringing Francis to life and he will be missed.

Mine too, it's one of the few that I've actually bookmarked:

"I was never one for speechmaking, but there it is. She came to live among us almost while we were unaware of it. But we've all come aware of it in time. There's not one among us unless it young Enys here - who has not had some special benefit from her coming. That's no more than the truth, and there's little more I can say! But if it wasn't for her, there'd be none of us gathering here together today and if there's any merit in being united as a family, then the merit's not the family's but hers. It isn't where you're born in this world, it's what you do. She is proper that proper doth. So I say we drink to Demelza - a lady of the first quality."

She blinked the mist out of her eyes and stared at the magenta coluoured wine in her glass. She said in a low voice, "If I've done anything good for the family - look what you've done for me."

I could 'hear' Kyle's voice in my head while I read his lines. I miss him so.

Re: I can't watch: SPOILER REQUEST!!! – Episode 5

Such a beautiful toast...and then Ross and Elizabeth go and spit all over it through their actions. How nice.

"To Be Continued": SPOILER REQUEST!!!

Please tell me Elizabeth is pregnant with Ross' child, please

Re: "To Be Continued": SPOILER REQUEST!!!

She is, according to a lot of clues in the novels but nothing ever saying straight out that the child is definitely Ross's.

Following their night of sex, Elizabeth waits for Ross, even asking George to postpone their wedding by a month. But Ross never comes back, nor does he write. So she marries George.

Re: "To Be Continued": SPOILER REQUEST!!!

Uhoh. A postponement is a dead giveaway. George doesn't strike the fatal blow afterall.

Thanks for replying.
