We Are Still Here : Reading into the Ending

Reading into the Ending

Lemme know if this sounds about right;

The ghosts didn't want to kill the Sacchettis because they wanted them to take their place. That's why at the end the mother willingly goes into the basement and the father follows soon after and greets their son. They'd be allowed to be together again in place of the Dagmars, allowing the Dagmars to be free. The ghosts' victims couldn't replace them, only a family who would willingly choose to do it. You'll notice at the end when the ghost family takes each other's hands Anne gives them an admiring look. She sees that's what they could have if they choose to stay and take the Dagmars' place.

I guess it could be argued that wasn't really the Sacchettis' son at the end but rather a trick by the ghosts/evil house/evil gods or whatever to make them choose to stay, but that's a lot more speculation on top of solider theories.

Also; aside from not wanting to kill the couple the Dagmars didn't need to kill them. They already appeased the evil gods/house by killing the other family, on top of a *beep* load of townies. Slaughtering the townies however was just for the Dagmar's own revenge as well as the protection of their would be replacements.

This film was the indie version of Cabin in the Woods by the way, still very good though.

Re: Reading into the Ending

You have such wonderful insight! I don't disagree with anything you wrote! Excellent analysis!

Re: Reading into the Ending

This was very good, thanks!

Re: Reading into the Ending

Dagmar didn't want to leave the house or his family. He was too afraid of what came after the cross over. So the new family won't replace them but be caretakers for the house.

However since they are an older middle aged couple, its unknown if they are still around in 2009 to feed whatever lives under the house.

Re: Reading into the Ending

Good theories, I like it. :)

Re: Reading into the Ending

Yes, Lewis family, they were all killed in the house, so there was no need for another family
