Fantasy : Best Fantasy Films

Best Fantasy Films

I'm looking for about 10-15 Fantasy Films. Doesn't matter how long ago they were released, but wanting to watch some fantasy films for ideas for my own.

I'm alsready familiar with...

Enchanted (2007)
Freaky Friday (2003)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) (and the rest of the series)
Night at the Museum (2006)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2003) (seen the others but only like this one)
Pleasantville (1998)
S1M0NE (2002)
Shrek (2001)
Spider-Man (2002)
Stardust (2007) (favorite fantasy film)
Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

The truth is out there and it hurts.

Re: Best Fantasy Films

I recommend the following:

The Lord of the Rings (Peter Jackson's trilogy)
The Lord of the Rings (1978 movie)
Legend
Willow
The Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Clash of the Titans
The Princess Bride
Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad
The Odyssey (there are many versions to choose from, take your pick)

By the way, about half of the films you listed aren't fantasy films. You know that, right?

Re: Best Fantasy Films

Conan the Barbarian (second one, Conan the Destroyer isn't as good)
Conan the Destroyer is the second one.

Do not cast your P.E.A.R.L.s before swine

Re: Best Fantasy Films

my apologies for not understanding, I thought you said that the second movie was Conan the Barbarian.

I personally thought Destroyer was better

If the internet has made anything crystal clear, it's that idiocy is universal

Re: Best Fantasy Films

The only redeeming grace of Conan TD was that Olivia D'abo was hot. The rest of the movie was crap. It was just too damn cheesy for my liking.

Sir, yes Sir!

Re: Best Fantasy Films

Well, what did you think?
I'm reminded a little bit of the Legend of Zelda game Twilight Princess.

United, We Stand!
In God, We Trust!
Like Yoda, We Talk!

Re: Best Fantasy Films

... about the movie, or my pathetic drill sergeant attempts? You see, I've never had anything to do with Twilight Princess, so the reference is lost on me.
The movie reminded me vaguely of Twilight Princess. Look up the title on Wikipedia and read the plot, you'll see what I mean.

P.S. - thought your signature was funny.
Thank you, I saw it on a bumper sticker.

P.P.S. - Why do we use P.S.'s today when it's so easy to just go up and type what you want to say before the signature?
Nowadays a P.S. is used like an afterthought, a sort of "oh, and by the way" thing, a separate thought unrelated to the main text.

P.P.P.S. - Am I the only one who uses an actual signature (as in a name)?
No, I've seen several people online who do, but as this is not a letter, I see no need to sign my name after it.

United, We Stand!
In God, We Trust!
Like Yoda, We Talk!

Re: Best Fantasy Films

Yes, I see the similarities, but the actual story I think would be pretty different.
Oh it is, but I did say that it reminds me of the game only a little bit

I had a friend who spoke like Yoda. It really got annoying after a while. It was similar to people who speak in the third person.
Zan agrees. People who speak in the third person annoy Zan.

One thing that does bug me is complete laziness in writing.
Agreed. I myself am very anti "txt tlk". I mean, it's an internet forum, there's no way Verizon or Motorola is charging by the letter, so why can't people just type out their damn words?

Then again, my being bugged isn't high on people's priority list .
I know my sanity isn't high on their priority list either, but that doesn't stop me from reacting like it should be

Oh, I wasn't criticising, just mentioning.
Oh, I know, I didn't take it like that

I kind of do it 'automatically'. Like, as I end my post I hit enter 'Ian' enter send. It just comes so naturally... but then I guess it depends a lot on what people are doing the majority of the time. I mean, if someone types a lot of letters that need some form or official signature block, then it would become automatic, where-as someone who is more informal may not be that way - who knows?
When I send out emails, I always end them with "Peace and Love". It's something that carried over from a million years ago when I actually wrote letters by hand (yes kids, people used to write by hand a long, long time ago, with archaic and obsolete tools called "paper" and "pen" )

Anyway - looking forward to your critique of LadyHawk when you see it.
I did see it, that's how I was reminded of Twilight Princess.

I guess I must admit to being a little nervous of the views of others. It's one of my all time favourite movies, but it's getting dated now, so some of effects can be less dramatic than they would be if made today. And, NO, that isn't licence to re-make the movie
Don't worry, the movie might be dated, but I'm a fan of Willow, Legend, The Dark Crystal, and Conan the Destroyer. I'm not someone who hates a movie just because it's not as "cutting edge" as LotR

I'll be sure and give you a detailed critique of Ladyhawke as soon as time permits.
