Pawn Stars : Dick Harrison - Nightmare Landlord
Re: Dick Harrison - Nightmare Landlord
It sounds like Rick left these businesses to sink or swim. I wonder if he did anything to promote them, or of it was just a bad idea in the first place.
Re: Dick Harrison - Nightmare Landlord
Harrison's rebuttal plus two articles:

http://m.reviewjournal.com/opinion/columns-blogs/kats/pawn-plaza-remains-work-progress-downtown-las-vegas
This article wasn't quite as reverent toward the "Midas touch" Pawn Stars influence on the plaza:

Dick is quite specific in some respects regarding what may have occurred during the last ten months to p!ss off tenants which would indicate there was a reason Harrison was contractually required to offer rent abatement to the tenants. I chuckled at his "extreme vetting" comment about future tenants. "Thou shalt not speaketh ill of thy landlord to the media" will likely be in the new lease contracts.
The true story is somewhere in between but reviews continually harped upon the fact that the cast was never in the shop except when filming and that was only in the replica set they built in the back to shoot episodes.
Since Russell's plea deal however, Harrison has had him appearing an hour or two daily for photo ops with tourists. I have to believe this is "community service Las Vegas-style" as well as a way to bolster flagging interest in all things Pawn Stars.
It stands to reason if your business is located in a sketchy part of town and tourists visit because of a TV show, then those tourists will no longer show up when the show's popularity wanes. In the end, building a CONEX inspired building will likely turn out to be a bad business decision for Harrison because he should have built when the "fire was hot" instead of waiting until the show was nearing the end of it's run.
Which, in my opinion, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
