Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens : Wish Finn could be the hero

Wish Finn could be the hero

oh well

don't know if anyone even cares in these message board death throes

But I just finished rewatching this among most of the SW films, and I'd be hard-pressed to find any other character besides maybe Obi Wan and possibly Yoda who's driven above all by a need to do good

Finn shook off stormtrooper conditioning - no mean feat. I like to imagine that his epiphany was so extreme that it attracted Kylo's attention/suspicion

Also, there's something endearing to me about how quickly he "imprinted" on Poe and Rey

and to go from being a stormtrooper to taking on the dreaded Kylo Ren mano-a-mano with NO force abilities, armed with full knowledge of what a force-user can do, that's gotta be some kind of heroic

oh well

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

What do you mean by 'Wish' ?

He's undoubtedly a hero.

- He renounces the First Order
- He refuses to kill the villagers
- He saves Poe
- He saves Rey
- He is the catalyst to destroy SKB (he tells them how its powered and where that power is contained (this leads to its destruction)
- He tries to take on Kylo Ren

He is undoubtedly a hero - and I'd argue, the ultimate hero of TFA.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

- He saves Finn

Do you mean Finn saves Rey or...himself?

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Edit complete - cheers

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

He was heroic at times but Rey was the hero of the movie, Finn was never allowed to be on the same level as her at any point.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Finn saved Rey's life both times on Jakku when he grabbed her hand and ran with her. He saved Poe's from being murdered by the First Order. Yes, that was to actually save himself. And even though he was scared of the First Order and wanted to get as far away from them as possible, he chose to go back in order to help Rey, and in doing so became instrumental in the destruction of Starkiller Base. Had he not stepped in to protect Rey while she was unconscious, she'd have been taken to Snoke. Yes, he was most definitely a hero.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

All true.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

The people who praise Finn as some heroic, well accomplished character remind me of racist teachers I had growing up who would patronizingly congratulate the black kids when they got D+ rather than be disapointed and encourage them that they could do much better

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

So when it comes to being heroic, Finn gets a D+? I bet you hated that Cheerios commercial with the interracial couple.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Indeed I have often expressed how Finn was portrayed in a condescendingly racist & stereotypical fashion. How fitting that the one of the main persons I was thinking about would respond. The very same kind of person I suspect as those condescending, secretly racist teachers I previously mentioned.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

If Finn was portrayed in a racist way, we'd have heard all about it on Entertainment news shows and magazines. It's more likely that this claim is coming from white dudes not happy with the Rey/Finn pairing. Like the uproar over that Cheerios commercial with the interracial couple.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

So in your mind racism only exists if mainstream entertainment news talks about it? Laughable. No,u007f the white supremacist trolls who were angry about Finn possibly being the lead & a Jedi actually got noticeably calm once the movie came out and they saw that Finn's feeble portrayal was no threat to their white supremacist sensibilities at all. He remained decidedly "less than" his white lead counterpart and others of suspected similar ilk like to patronizingly pat him on the head and tell him how good he did as he danced for butter biscuits.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

The racists are promoting the false narrative that he didn't save Rey or that he wasn't instrumental in the destruction of Starkiller Base and saving the Resistance.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

No. I've clearly laid out who the racists actually are which includes the patronizing racists who pretend Finn was a well portrayed, heroic character, just as accomplished as the white lead. Of course they know this was not the case and are quietly pleased that white supremacy was maintained via Rey.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

No, the racists are those who deny Finn's heroism.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Uh huh. Sure. Just like the real racists weren't the patronizing teachers congratulating the black student(s) for getting a D+.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Don't you have other layers or substance to you RubyRuthless, other than to carry on and on about freakin' Star Wars movies? Don't you know how to extend of yourself and discuss honestly and intelligently about other topics, or is it only important to you, if it affects your own phony, biased, cloistered feminist outlook?

You are a genuine narcissist in the making and can only think in terms of how things affect you and what others—namely men—can do for you and ways you can scheme to manipulate them. Deep down inside you are really bitter about being female and refuse to come to terms with your state of gender, in other words shortcomings, so you will go into denial like most narcissists.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

So when it comes to being heroic, Finn gets a D+?
Well, Finn is a liar, after all. He is a scoundrel who doesn't know how fly a spaceship. He is less heroic than Jar Jar Binks.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

I too dont understand why people praise Finn so much.

The idea of a Stormtrooper changing sides wasnt bad.

However it was terribly executed. Finn was a terribly written character. He was supposed to be a brainwashed soldier. Yet he acted more like Kevin Hart [Ride Along] or Chris Tucker [Rush Hour] and that made ZERO sense.

Star Wars Rebels since season 2 has been exploring the scenario of a loyal soldier changing sides and it was offered more quality writting and development in the 25-40 minutes it has so far devoted to it.

Good examples of loyal soldiers switching sides are: Zuko [Avatar The Last Airbender cartoon] and the Arbiter [Halo 2]. Had they logically written Finn we would have ended up with a good and likeable character. Instead we got a laughing stock.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

If the Force woke him up from his brainwashing, how would you know how he'd act? Obviously he was scared of the First Order, but he heroically faced down that fear.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

The Force woke him up from brainwashing???

That cant happen! For someone to use the Force in order to free the mind of another is possible but for someone who has been brainwashed since childhood to just one moment wake up and be free of that brainwashing is impossible and way too far fetched.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Who says the Force can't get someone to overcome his brainwashing?

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

The Force Awakens is episode 7.

Which means that it has to follow lore rules that were established by the previous films.

Not only that but even in Sci-Fi there is a line on how much unrealistic something can be. And as i said. For an untrained [in the Force] individual to manage to suddenly break free from his/her decades long brainwashing [that started since childhood] is either impossible or too far fetched.

And please if you are going to reply dont call me a racist like you have done in other posts cause i have proven that i am not.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

There is nothing in SW lore that says the Force can't wake someone up from their brainwashing.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Maybe not but all fantasy universes still follow some basic reality rules.

And the thing you mention crosses the line big time.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

SW lore says the force doesn't talk to you.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

SW lore says the force doesn't talk to you.

I never said the Force talked to Finn and said, "wake up."

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

The force influenced him to wake up? The force doesn't do that. You have to be aware of your connection, first.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

The Force can't wake someone up from their brainwashing? Little Ani used the Force without knowing it. You don't get to decide what the Force can and cannot do.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

And you don't get to decide what men can or can't not do, regarding their attitude towards your warped feminist agenda. The force is with males, more than phony fake females like Rey and yourself, as they have always been the more powerful, stronger and dominant gender.

Yes, you are a retarded idiot, who is caught up, deluded and lack the self-awareness to see what a f<>kwit you are, along with RubyRuthless. What's with your avatar, is that supposed to intimidate other posters?

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

"The force is with males, more than phony fake females like Rey" Yeah man, 'stupid' is just about the only word to describe you.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Rey is a phony character, who has been given pseudo-credibility, just for being female. She is not as believable as Luke Sykywalker and was boring and bland to watch. She needs to become Jabba's concubine, where she would learn her rightful place.

Don't eat the whole ones!...Those are for the guests. 🍪

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

There's only a week left but I'm gonna put you back on ignore anyway, I'm done listening to idiots.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Heroism is defined by murder? He mowed down troopers, who, just like him, were 'innocents'. Did they want to be brainwashed? Did they have a choice? Does Finn seem a bit bothered by it? It's an utter 180 from the reasoning behind his 'defection'.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Those "innocents" would kill him, and he's justified in protecting himself and others from the First Order.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

He goes far beyond protecting himself. They might kill him, but why wouldn't he try to reason with them? Instead he fights them, the innocent, brainwashed soldiers, as if they were the ones responsible for his enslavement. His character is so utterly ridiculous...why would he be socially adjusted? Why would he trust anyone? Why would he be comic relief? Why is he OK literally murdering a trooper from behind with a sabre, when the thing that turned him from killing, the trigger, was a trooper dying in his arms? How does any of that make consistent sense?

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

It's hard to reason with people shooting at you.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

If he was so above violence, he wouldn't stab someone in the bag with vigor, and then challenge a former brethren. He should SYMPATHIZE with their plight. Sheesh. Get it?

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Little hard to sympathize with a former brethren when he's coming at you with a mace.

A D+ for being the catalyst to destroying SKB

Wow - tough teacher

Given that they already had the plans he merely saved them a bit of time figuring out what they would have concluded soon enough on their own anyway. Another patronizing pat on the head for Finn.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

POE
Finn's familiar with the weapon that destroyed the Hosnian system. He worked on the base.

LEIA
We're desperate for anything you can tell us.

FINN
That's where my friend was taken -- I've got to get there, fast.

LEIA
And I will do everything I can to help, but first you must tell us all you know.

Finn was instrumental to the destruction of Starkiller Base and the preservation of the Resistance. You just don't want to believe it as it goes against your false narrative.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Well, in a way, he was the hero up until he went into a coma.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

Sorry but it's not on the feminist agenda. Maybe in a century come back and check out if anything has changed. But I'm hearing he should be lucky enough to have this much screentime in a feminist fantasy movie, even if he's worse than Jar Jar Binks.

Re: Wish Finn could be the hero

I wish Finn could have

- Disobeyed orders and not killed innocent villagers

- Defected from the First Order

- Sprung a resistance fighter

- Located BB-8

- Shot down some tie fighters enabling BB8 to escape

- Took care of Chewie

- Provided intelligence to aid the survival of the resistance

- Volunteered to go on the mission (and rescue a friend)

- Protected someone frin certain capture or death while they were helpless, receiving grave wounds in the process

..instead of Rey

Oh wait!!! He did do all that.
