Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens : I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Why would a lightsaber be calling to anyone? Is it the force that's calling to Rey maybe?

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

It shouldn't be.

"Not all change is progress, as not all movement is forward."

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

the lightsaber is haunted by Obi Wan's Force Ghost.

imo

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

She thought so too.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

The only way that the saber should have some weird effect like that is if, like a fan theory I have read in the past, Rey was a student to Luke who survived Kylo's attack and was mind-washed with the force and hidden to keep her safe. I have no idea if this is going to actually happen, but if it ended up being true, I could accept the saber calling to her because it is actually stirring her hidden memories.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see where they take the story.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

But the trouble with the theory, is that she saw things she wouldn't have witnessed as a child...Bespin?

JJ has already called it a "forceback"...which defies canon. He created something new in the mythos that goes against the nature of the force, just because he likes flashbacks.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

I don't understand how that defies canon.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

When did the force ever "call" to anyone? Through an inanimate object?

Hint: Luke's tango with the Dark Side was not through an inanimate object. Later, his vision of the future is exactly that, a vision of a possible future.

No one ever sees the past, and objects don't hold force-memories. This was JJ's fan fiction.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

I just thought it was something we hadn't seen before. It didn't occur to me that it was wrong or anti-canon. Just different. Not that I liked it or understood it.

Doesn't Yoda say something about seeing the past and the future in ESB?

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

It defies prior canon of the force. The force has always been passive, it never spoke to anyone through objects. That is why it's 'anti-canon'. You accepting it is an example that fans still think it's magic, and Disney will get away with turning it into that.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

As I said, I don't know if I like the idea, but it puzzles me how people complain that TFA is a total rip off of ANH, yet the slightest new idea or difference is seen has blasphemy.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

The major plot points are a ripoff. At the same time, the character development is rushed, and there's new additions to canon that contradict the previous films. Why is it black or white with people?

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

I guess I'm just not anal about what is or isn't canon.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Exactly, what I said, some casual fans just don't care about the mythos, or consistency. That's fine, not a knock on you, but for me, and others, we found Lucas's version of things to be fairly consistent. Sure he adds to the mythos, but he doesn't contradict himself. JJ and Disney wanted SW to be something different than it was, and they've succeeded.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

And many fans don't see nearly as many contradictions as others because of the different ways Lucas' work has been interpreted.

"But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now"

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

The force has never given someone a flashback through an inanimate object in any of the 6 previous films, or the animated series. This, is fact. The force, prior to TFA had never spoken to anyone directly, nor did it directly influence anyone or anything. Regardless of interpretation, those statements are fact.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

And there was nothing presented that precluded it from happening. In 1977 the Force didn't do a whole lot of things that it did by 2005.

Not saying it is a perfect fan theory, but it is about as good as you will probably get, if anything at all. JJ set the stage for a few dumb plot points that he could idly introduce and not bother having to explain. Let the others do that!

Honestly, I don't care about anything that JJ says. He's been known to lie before. One reason I didn't see this film for over a years was my disdain for JJ as a filmmaker. He is listed as executive producer on The Last Jedi and not in the writing credits at all. Let us hope that his role as executive producer is about the same as when Tim Burton was executive producer on Batman Forever...meaning that he contributed nothing. Let us hope that Rian Johnson can make sense of the dangling plot threads and do something interesting with it all.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Well, that's a lot of hope. I found Looper's lack of understanding of time travel to be disheartening and unbelievable. I really hope we don't see more relativity ignorant scenes in the next film like the destruction of the New Republic Worlds, or the ridiculous implausibility of Starkiller Base.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Yep. It's saying, "Take the lightsaber back to Luke." I think the Force also revived R2.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

And threw canon out the window.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Luke already has a green saber, bet Rey will keep the family jewel blue one, just like Han's gun, ship, R2 and Chewie.

And it was BB-8 who woke up R2. Jar Jar (Abrams) confirmed it several times.

You should speak with a therapist about your jealousy issue over a fictional character.

R2 doesn't wake up because of BB-8. BB-8 was unsuccessful at waking him up earlier in the story. What was different this time was Rey's presence. The Force wants her to go to Luke.

well I would rather speak with a therapist about the embarrassment and shame i felt when seeing the rehash awakens the first time, a 200m production with fanfic writing level. And maybe about you, you are quite disturbing sometimes.

As uninformed as ever, you know it better than the filmmakers, huh?

JJ explained: BB-8 woke R2 up, but it took him conveniently until the end of the movie to really snap out of his coma - just in time to resolve the map plot. Its called deus ex machina writing, it's not Marey Sue writing for a change, but stupid and bad.

Funny that wherever it counts you instinctively WANT Rey to be a Mary Sue even when she is not, but when somebody spells it out that person is a manbaby or worse.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Luke didn't have any weird visions when he took his father's lightsabre for the first time, and he had much more of a connection to it than Rey.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

not just the saber, Obi Wan and Yoda were calling Rey too: "Rey, these are your first steps" in the voice of both Obi Wans.

She is just so super important that she sues the hell out of every scene...accept it dude.

Aren't they one with the Force now?

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

so what, did Mace Windu, Qui Gon and all the dead Jedi speak to Luke when he touched the SAME saber, with stuff like: we have been killed by that light saber, aaaaarrg...avenge us.

Did any fraking Jedi or saber speak to space Jesus: Ani you are the chosen one, these are your first steps to bringing balance?

No, so, Rey is a super snowflake with some special respect and attention again: Marey Sue writing.

Re: I thought it was weird that the blue lightsaber was calling to Rey.

Because it's a Disney movie written by JJ ABrams. Now the Force fairy calls to you trough lightsabers that are found in geek crates. They grant Mary Sue level if you touch them. Afterwards , you can do aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanything, just like a dream. Is n't that great story telling?
