Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens : Sabine [Rebels] a million times better than Rey [TFA]

Sabine [Rebels] a million times better than Rey [TFA]

Just finished watching the latest Rebels episode [Trials of the Darksaber] and this particular episode was simply top class. I gave it a well deserved 9/10.

There was major character development of Sabine in the episode and it showed that she is a far better written character than Rey.

All the development Rey couldnt undergo in 2 hours [and instead was an illogically OP character] Sabine does in 20 minutes.

This Rebels episode was far superior and more realistic than the Force Awakens. Dave Filoni and his team should be making Star Wars movies.

I'll have to start watching it...

Re: Sabine [Rebels] a million times better than Rey [TFA]

Compared to most of season 3 it was a much better episode, it started to feel more like Star Wars with this episode again.

Sabine's initial method of combat shows how poor Rey would be against an actual Jedi, all Rey did with a lightsaber was lunged at Kylo Ren like she was holding a heavy spear, no form, no technique, ends up being one of the worst lightsaber battles in Star Wars history. Sabine tries that amateur crap and it rightfully fails against Kanan, loved that.

Also The Mandalorian Wars was definitely referenced by Kanan, it couldn't be the Clone Wars he referred to when berating Sabine.

Re: Sabine [Rebels] a million times better than Rey [TFA]

He mentioned the Mandalorian Wars not the conflicts in Clone Wars.

Sabine isnt on the same level as Rey. She knows how to fight with an actual melee weapon. She didnt know how to fight with a simple stick or with a lightsaber [which is harder to use than a vibroblade {which she knows how to use} since one touch can cause serious harm]. So as you said i agree. Rey and Finn should have been killed in an instant by Kylo. Not only that but it appears that she wont be getting a double-bladed lightsaber [which is closer to the staff with which she has some experience] but will still be using that old single blade one.

As for the episode. It was the best episode of the season so far. Season 3 has a lighter tone so far but some serious moments are done right. Therefore the show maintains a good quality. Thrawn is also very likeable and well written in my opinion. I havent read any EU books but from what i have heard he is supposed to be an intelligent adversary and that is well portrayed in the show so far.

The canon SW films have had an admitted dearth of female characters, but the capability and popularity of Princess Leia in the OT, Padme in the PT, Jyn Erso in "Rogue One", and, in the EU (or "Legends", or whatever on Earth it's now called) Mara Jade in Zahn's "Heir To The Empire" trilogy, Bastila and Kraya in the respective KOTOR games, and Hera and Sabine in "Rebels" pretty much clearly demonstrate to me that SW fans not only don't have a problem with, but actually enjoy, strong, complex, female characters, when they are well written.

That's the problem with Rey.

To IMDB, or not to IMDB - because I've got some questions.

Add Duchess Satine and Ashoka Tano from Clone Wars on that list.

I agree. Reys character is badly written and that is why i dont like the character. Gender has nothing to do with it.
