Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens : If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

...it lies in the hope that Rey is actually a Kenobi descendant, brought to balance the karmic power left by Anakin and Obi-Wan.

I really didn't like this movie. I thought it was a recycled mold, trying VERY hard to combine dated charm with brand spanking new effects. But taking a look at Rey's parentage theories, Kenobi came up the most compelling, (in spite of her fighting style/Force aptitude being veeeery similar to Palpatine's.) The idea that the heart of Star Wars is really not so much about biological fathers and sons, but padawan and master, brotherly love, gives so much strength to what could eventually unfold between Kylo and Rey. No, I'm not saying specifically in a romantic way, but a familiarity is definitely there, and a certain degree of karmic soul-magnetism. But there's always the possibility that this new series isn't as deep.

I hope it turns out that way, at least. Thoughts?

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

Maybe she could be his niece, but not a daughter. Obi-Wan was a Jedi, his motivations were to remain a hermit to protect Luke. There was a book about it, but it's part of the "Legends" now...

Let me know your thoughts on this!

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

I don't enjoy fan speculation. So, I apologize, but I wont indulge..

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

I just assumed she will be a Skywalker, since every trilogy has centered around one, Kylo is a Solo, so Rey must be the Skywalker.
(and no im not being racist by leaving Finn out of the equation, but it just seems too unlikely).
Kenobi was much more loyal to the Jedi ways, he never started a family, so it will be far fetched to find his offspring anywhere.

I thought it wouldve been nice to see Rey and Kylo switch sides somehow, that Rey gets consumed by her own doubts and Kylo starts to see the light.
But that would piss off a lot of people as well, and Kylo still killed innocent children, so i guess its pretty impossible to redeem him, although, so did Vader(and more).

I skip reading the bottom line, because it is usually some lame signature.

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

Finn just has to be one of Lando's kids stolen from birth. "Got a boyfriend? A cute boyfriend?" That's a Lando kid.

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

Even if Rey was a Kenobi, it still doesn't explain her non practiced force abilities. The only thing that would make sense is by bringing up Midichlorians and chosen one plots. Rey is the true chosen one while Anakin was a fallen chosen one or some such sleep inducing craziness. idk.

Honestly, I just finished watching vids of kids at Disneyland marching with storm troopers, dressing up as Rey and Kylo et al and I'm starting to reconcile with the fact that Star wars just isn't for me. It's for those little kids who don't give a shyt about plot, character development, or explanations of the force. They just like the sights and sounds and simple plot of good vs evil. Rey is simply the hero who defeated the bad guy Kylo, that's all, it isn't that serious to them. So I guess I can accept that. Right now, I do hope for the stand alone Star Wars to appeal more to adult interests like R1. Perhaps we'll get an R rated stand alone SW movie or show in the future. But, from now on I'll just see the main movies as "fun for the little ones".

They all are and always were... Just because some are a little bit darker, they were always aimed at kids (of all ages). that's not a bad thing at all.

Maybe it's not for you, like you said.

Now where did i put my plastic lightsaber so i can go play with my kid?

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

Anakin cannot suddenly become the fallen chosen one. He fulfilled the prophecy at the end of ROTJ, when he killed Palpatine.

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

I know what you mean. :( It went from being a mythos, a psychoanalytical tale, a hybrid of politics and spirituality, to Disney. :( I miss George's spiriti in the films, but I accept that he's over it.

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

I don't see it coming. She's no one. The family link is Kylo : he is a Skywalker.

Unfortunately I hear he will be "redeemed" because he misses his mommy or something, that's the story they wanna tell and is SUCKS.

The last thing we need is a pussy Skywalker after we had a whiny b!tch Skywalker in the prequels.

I fear for the worst but ofc these are just internet rumors and my own paranoia.

Re: If there is ANYTHING to love about this film..

I liked it for the character Rey. It was nice to see the Millennium Falcon fly again. It was nice to see Han Solo and Chewie. The Rathtars were neat, although many times bigger than created to be.

Anakin Solo or Ben Skywalker?

So huge is the mistake of using Darth Vader. Darth Vader ceased to be when he turned from the dark side and once again became Anakin Skywalker, killing Emperor Palpatine. Luke then receives a visit from Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin together, at the victory party.

Out of the blue, Rey knows to use the Jedi mind trick.

Ren either has the power of The Force, or he does not. Is there an on/off switch in the script?

Was there ever a plot? You would think that we are watching replays of old Star Wars movies.

The only thing saving this movie is the character Rey. I was going to give a five, but found it in my heart to grant a six, because of Rey. Rey, Rey, Rey. They should have put more Rey in the movie. Like the actual development of her awareness and use of The Force.
