Jaco : Greatest bassist EVER

Greatest bassist EVER

Stanley opened the door but Jaco took it to another level. It's a shame Zawinul isn't alive to be in the film. He learned so much from him. Jaco never admitted it but I think Joe was his idol

Re: Greatest bassist EVER

I believe Jaco and Zawinul had the same 'bad attitude' concerning the importance of their own playing.

And it's tarnished both of their legacy's, as far as THIS FAN is concerned.

Wayne Shorter, aptly known as 'Mr Gone', was probably the true holder of Weather Reports spirit.

I am a bassist who once thought Jaco was the end all of everything. I still believe the fluidity of his unique style puts him in the conversation of 'greatest influences'.

That said? Jaco could only play "Jaco". Admittedly, playing "Jaco" is quite an achievement. But? The other greats tend to be far better rounded than strictly 'Punk Jazz", which to me refers to the 'jazz/r&b/latin' fusion which was unique to Jaco, circa 1975.

That said, I can listen to "Jaco play Jaco" all day long!!

Re: Greatest bassist EVER

The film was a disappointment. They dwelled too much on the negative. Zawinul and Jaco had a great musical relationship. They never mentioned the rare accordion Jaco bought for him

Re: Greatest bassist EVER

Interesting how time changes everything.

In hindsight, all the egos were just that.

Jaco played some very interesting music. Unfortunately his illness over took him and tainted his career and legacy.

Weather Report is all but forgotten.
