This movie was fantastic. 9/10

It's like the people who watched this film were expecting something and when they got something different, they weren't open to it and missed the real meat of the movie: The psychology of the situations, dialogue, characters, cinematogrophy, and attention to detail. This movie is very intelligent and interesting. I was particularly impressed with the characters and acting and the little things.

Spoilers

The attention to detail is fantastic through the whole film. In the beginning of the movie, I thought, "eh *beep* they will drive the merc through the SUV instead of around it. That's so hollywood." But they didn't, and in most any other movie they would plow through, so that the "stupid" viewer is entertained. And then the oil pan gets knocked off by a rock, blowing the engine block. When do you see that?

Another example is when the body moves when Danny tries to get the key to syphon gas. You don't know if it's a zombie movie, or what. The same thing when the dog is eating the corpse-you think it's a zombie.

Even the scene when Brian kills the Christian woman for gas makes sense. Why didn't he just threaten them? Because they were backing up and he didn't want to take the chance, and he was pissed off by Danny not succeeding in convincing them. Brian has anger issues any way, plus he's always drinking.

I was impressed with how proactive firearms use was. Duh, almost everyone would want a gun, yet in some movies the viewer is left cringing as to why there are no guns in use. (American Horror story season 1) Kate and Danny grab knives right away. I can't stand when people are turned into victims when weapons are available, and I can't stand the victim mentality that some people promote.

The ending was unsatisfying and dismal. It could have been satisfying and dismal. There should have been another segment with Kate and Danny.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

I saw him just for Chris Pine but i liked the movie.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

He was great. Emiley Vancamp is damned pretty.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

It was much better than I was expecting. Moral ambiguity is almost always done poorly in film, this is one of those rare dramas that actually got it right. Yes it leaves you dismal and unsatisfied, I think that's a good thing considering the subject matter. I would add uncomfortable to that.

The acting really sells the movie; if one note was missing it would have brought the "reality" of the film down but no one ever misses a beat. Very good movie for a minimalistic venture.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

I recently watched this film only five years late and after multiple viewings (think HH w/ Ice Station Zebra), I'm convinced this will be a Soylent Green, The Omega Man/Last Man on Earth, and/or Beyond the Time Barrier cult film in 30 years.

Very nice exposition of the eventual pandemic.

Highly doubtful. All of those others were pretty engaging on first viewing.*
This one was forgettable.

*I'm not familiar with Beyond the Time Barrier, though.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

Hey eolloe,

I should qualify my earlier statement: I predict it will be a cult film for me; subjectivity, subjectivity

I think Quintet is a 10/10 film, so my judgment has always been suspect.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

i'm pretty critical and I loved it. I thought the issues they faced and decisions they made in the face of deadly consequences were compelling plus the acting was great. I can understand people being put off by the anti-hero actions and bleak tone of the movie given the setting of a nearly dead society, but what I don't understand is what they were expecting given the theme.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

I thought this was a very good film in all aspects(Writing, acting, directing, ect.). But what set this movie apart was that there were no real heroes. No Charleston Hestons or Sigourney Weavers, no survivalist leaders or Ramboes. Just four scared and shell shocked kids doing the best they can with no guidance, training or personal precedence whatsoever. Its easy for the view to play arm chair critic and say,"Do(or Don't) do this or that. But who knows how anyone would act under similar circumstances.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

Very good observations no one knows how they would react in a situation like theirs. You are only assuming you would act or do things differently to the charactes in the film.

Re: This movie was fantastic. 9/10

I'd never heard of this movie before tonight.
