Cinderella : Cinderella 1950 vs 2015

Which version of the character do you prefer?

Cinderella- I would say a toss up. I love Ilene Woods performance as Cindy. She is kind, sweet and nurturing but also smart, sassy and strong willed. She really bring her to life. I thought Lily James was great as well. She was perfectly cast and did the character justice. If I had to pick I would give a slight edge to the 1950 version but I love both.

Lady Tremaine- 1950 all the way. I like Cate as an actress and I thought he did well. But I felt they made the character a bit too over the top. She felt more like Cruella De Vil that Lady Tremaine at times. Eleanor Audley is perfectly chilling as the stepmother and makes her an evil woman who you love to hate.

The Prince- 2015. The original was barely in the movie.

The Fairy Godmother- I liked both I would probably give an edge to the 1950 version.

I'd say both. On their own terms, each one is perfect. I never thought I'd love the new ''Cinderella'' as much as the old one, but, I do.

I love the king in the 1950 film because he reminded me of my Uncle Jake.

To be honest, I find Lily James' Cinderella to be more sweeter and milder than Walt's version. The animated version Cinderella was indeed gracious and likeable, but she had spunk and dignity as well (though she still was a damsel in distress at the end). Although James' Cinderella was more feminist, I felt she still was a damsel in distress as well. Both of them are likable in their own way, but I'll take the animated one.

Lady Tremaine; Although I was underwhelmed by both, I'll take Kate Blanchett's. I thought she had more depth.

The Prince: I couldn't said it better myself, haha. He barely was in the movie.

The fairy Godmother: The animated one. She was sweeter and more endearing.

Drizella and Anastasia: The 2015 versions. While they're supposed to be beyond detestable in Walt's version, I find them untolerable. The live action version made them more likable.

The Grand Duke; The 1950-version. He was forgettable in the new version.

The King: The animated version. He was quite entertaining there.

Well, she wasn't exactly one at the climax when she pulled out the other slipper in one of the best-executed twists in Disney (Walt Disney Animation Studios) history. The idea that she still had the other slipper had been around in literature, but in this case the audience went from "Yay, Cinderella got there in time! " to "Oh my God, the slipper just shatteredshe's doomed! " to "Oh snap, take that Tremaineyou LOSE! " in short order. Really, it was quite awesome how Cinderella suddenly turned the tables like that (in such an understated way, on her part), leaving the villains in distress (permanently!).

Oh, and earlier when she was trapped she was the one who thought of getting Bruno, in effect saving herself, albeit with the help of the mice, Bruno, and others.

While the latter is true in one way, I find the 1950 versions absolutely hilarious and entertaining, much like the equally cartoonishly over-the-top king, and I'm pretty sure that was the intention (in addition to them being detestable in other ways). I'll take them because they never cease to amuse me. They're pretty popular at Disneyland, too, by the way, with their ludicrous antics. To each their own, of course.

Well, that's what all Disney princesses (in the animated features) are like. Don't get me wrong, each has a distinct personality, but they're all both sweet and sassy/spunky, too, and have been from the very beginning (don't let her voice fool you, Snow White is full of sass ). That's how Walt liked them, and they haven't changed in this respect to this day.

The animated one is better. Sure the new one has some parts that look good, like the glass slippers, but it was just a live action remake.

The movie-1950 (more suspense, more humor= and the scene where the stepmother and sisters tear Cinderella's dress is powerful, and when she is crying in the garden, it makes me tear up every time.)

^Thisthe dress is practically a character. I sat there with my mouth open. About the most beautiful costume piece I have ever seen.

The old one is better than this one. But I like Rodgers and Hammerstein more than both (with Whitney Houston).

The old version in every aspect.

My vote goes to the 1950 one. This one somehow manages to remove everything good about the old one. In a sentence, it feels like there is no heart.

I like the 2015 version the best of the two.

Cinderella- 1950. I like Lily James but the script made her so ho-hum about everything. She's locked in that attic for days and she never once tries to escape. Cinderella helped the mice formulate her escape once Gus was captured. Lily James didn't even bother to signal when the Prince came to her house with the slipper.

Lady Tremaine- 1950 by a landslide. I was actually scared of that woman. Yikes!

The Prince- 2015. I think the original had one line. Yawn.

I loved Lily James as Ella, but her Cinderella was *too* passive. I was very surprised that Cinderella from the 1950s version was more assertive than the 2015 version.

Cinderella 1950, who would have thought she would be more of a female role model than the 2015 version. She was also prettier
Prince-2015, despite the original Prince never speaking I feel the 2015 Prince brought a lot of heart to the role and romance not counting the unbelievable love at first site not even knowing her name angle. Plus how can you resist those teeth

Dress 1950, not only is her dress suppose to be silver not blue, but I think the 2015 dress isn't too appealing. I'm not in love with the 1950 version either but at least the color is right.

Superman & Wonder Woman

The 2015 version seemed much more detailed.
There were no British accents in the original version.
The original Lady Tramaine looked more intimidating and even scary looking.

However I'm for the original cartoon version.

1950 I feel has a much stronger version of Cinderella.

I just think there were a lot of issues that made this Cinderella feel weak as a character. At least 1950s Cinderella felt like her estate was in the middle of nowhere, not a horse ride's trip to the marketplace. 1950 Cinderella was kept from any servants she might have known. She went through a much more traumatic dress scene. Overall, that isolation provided an easier motivation for her to remain stuck. 2016 Cinderella still had no where to go, but her ability to escape for a day on horseback or remain in touch with former servants undercut her character's emotions.

1. 2015 Cinderella could leave but where would she go? The streets would not be kind to homeless orphans. One could argue that she could go get a job somewhere, but if you've seen something like Downton Abbey, you would know that a servant needed good references from their master or mistress to get a new job. Lady Tremaine is not the kind to give out references, let alone good ones.

2. She only saw one former servant and it was purely by coincidence. The film cut this but Flora, the cook, just happened to run into Cinderella in the market. It wasn't a planned meeting.
