The message boards don't need to go. It's the movie ratings that need to be managed better by IMDB.
A movie should not be able to be rated until it's official release date- the people that have seen the movie screeners will just have to wait to rate them. A movie should not have a 4.5 rating before it's even released. I was all against drowning a dog and didn't go see the movie because of the video but it doesn't mean the movie should have an unrecoverable negative rating on IMDB before it's even released nationwide.

It would be great if the boards had been moderated. That would've gone a long way toward keeping things civil. The way it is now, posters don't actually discuss a film or TV show, they just come to a board to shout their political views even though there are boards like Politics and The Soapbox for that.

Not, trolls aren`t racist.
Whats the whole point of the trolls, destroy the enemy, the enemy were these boards, and use all the tools they had included the racism, xenophobia, sexism etc.-

The end (of this boards) justifies the means (thousands of trolls using that comment)

Well, the controversy about the boards and the controversy about this movie's IMDB rating are separate. But they both have a common origin:

Amazon has no interest, and has never had any interest, in making IMDB good. Hire someone to improve the message board system? Hire someone to improve the rating system? Why?

The IMDB founders created a primitive system to prevent manipulation of rankings. I've been pointing out how obviously broken that system has been for years (it's really easy to do that statistically). They've never lifted a finger.

This movie had 409 racist "1" votes before it opened. Almost all are still being included in the ranking. No one at Amazon has ever cared about that. Period.

This whole line of thinking is flawed. I mean if you open up something like this, and give people free access to talk, of course stupid *beep* is going to get said. It's inevitable. But that doesn't mean you shut down the whole thing down. Should this country get rid of free speech cause some one might say something offensive.

I wouldn't say it's because of this board alone but I heard of this movie because of an article similar to the on eyou posted.
I didn't know about this movie before yet racist trolls that are spanning this film with 1-star review knew about it!? Some people are just silly.
It's def. easier to ignore trolls but it doesn't mean that we should concede that "it's the Internet. There are going to be awful people." Twitter is finding cyberbullying problematic and I think these sites are finding ways to combat excessive trolling. Wish racist trolls would just focus on films they wanna watch rather than films that have black actors in it.

I just came here to see what's going on because this is the movie being referenced as the reason.

What's wrong with being racist? It's not like discrimination. You can be racist but uphold civil rights. You can be Christian but support Gay Marriage.
Like in "Meet the Parents" he says, "But I prefer dogs" - but DeNiro made him out to be a cat-hater. See what I mean? "I prefer women" - does that make me anti-gay? "I am married to a White woman" - does that make me racist? I think it does! But it doesn't mean I discriminate and act against those of other ethnic groups. Ridiculous!
