Hairspray Live! : Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

As a women, he is absolutely terrifying. The stuff nightmares are made of.

I love the musical but will avoid this because of him, just as I avoided Rocky Horror because of the freak playing the lead.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

If you loved the musical, which one did you prefer? Harvey Fierstein was the original Broadway Edna. John Travolta was Edna in the 2007 musical film. It's up to you if you are going to watch this when it airs, but it seems a shame to avoid it because of a single casting decision.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

And Calling LaVerne Cox a freak makes you a horrifyingly bigoted person.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Divine will always be Edna for me.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

^^^^^Yes, this!!!!^^^^^

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Absolutely! But Fierstein is a good replacement.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

I love Harvey. I love John Waters version of Hairspray. Why did Adam Shankman change the whole story Velma as the show producer is awful. This show was base on the 2007 movie sorta . Harvey will always be Arnold Beckoff from Torch Song Trilogy.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Yes, his Tony for Torch Song Trilogy was very well-deserved. He is larger than life and exactly perfect for the theater.

The John Waters version of Hairspray is still the best by far.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Im having a hard time getting past Harvey's voice

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

His voice is the best and has been his signature forever. Nobody sounds like him and he sounds like nobody else.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

So long as I don't have to pay a single cent to hear that hoary voice!! WHich is why I didn't watch much of the show last night. Fierstein is just too muchto use a pun . . . a drag.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

i can handle his voice for only a short amount of time before it really starts to grate

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

He is a whole lot better than John Travolta with his pasty puffy makeup/fat suit and irritating "Baltimore" accent

Ohmygosh, yes. Travolta was truly horrifying in this role, ruined the movie for me. But I thought Harvey was great.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

i can handle fierstein's voice for only a short amount of time before it really starts to grate but i agree that travolta's voice was so irritating and i thought he was less successful as edna

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

No one can beat Divine, but even though Harvey voice was terrible it's still better then Travolta

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Man, *beep* off. Laverne Cox was the only good part of the Rocky Horror Remake. She slayed Sweet Transvestite.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Unfortunately as wonderful as she is, and as talented as everyone in the cast is, that TV remake was a total dud. Laverne Cox was trying so hard to make it work, but the direction was off, the pacing was off. Lots of good ideas, but somehow it just didn't gel. It wasn't her fault, though. She was doing everything she could to keep it afloat.

Re: Harvey Fierstein is horrifying as a man….

Nawww, I love Harvey and his unique raspy croak. :) Which I associate with Mrs. Doubtfire, Mulan, his version of Heat Miser from that live-action Year Without a Santa Clausand now Edna Turnblad. :D
