Re: "in defense"

Bayerle emptied a pistol into an unarmed man. I thought he did well to get off with a couple of years for manslaughter.

Re: 'in defense'

I get the impression that Patchy always thinks he is the smartest guy in the room hence his opinion that his defense was lacking and he should have been acquitted of all charges.

His own lawyers were astonished by the prosecution's woeful performance during the trial. They expecting a far worse outcome for their client.

BDW exists to present Patchy as a sympathetic character and make the creep seem human.

Re: 'in defense'

Completely agree. The guy is an egotistical egomaniac asshat who should be thanking his lucky stars with the sentence he got away with. The bloke comes across unlikable in every way possible.

The fact that he begins his explanation of the circumstances that occurred by stating first that his wife, for whom he was separated from, betrayed their marriage is a joke. The dude blew all their money on this project and then started to travel the word on his In Laws money to raise interest in the thing. Apart from that he neglected his wife and children during this whole period. when he Wife will have needed him the most, with young kids.No wonder his ex wife moved on

Oh yes the smarted guy in the room alright, who has in his words, had the most impeccable research on the ship but yet gets out there to the site in '87 and discovers that they don't have plans for the ship lol. Obviously that was someone elses fault though.

Even listening to all those taped telephone recordings of him offering money to that man he eventually murdered, to leave his separated wife and then you had the guy laughing at him telling him he's broke but would leave for double. Which was all obviously edited in such a way to make Patchy look as great as possible, it failed imo. If what we heard was the most incriminating evidence and an excuse for murder, it was all pretty tame and made him look like a paranoid weirdo. The whole incident seemed no more than 2 ego's clashing over a woman.

Ateotd there were zero grounds for self defense, or protecting his family as he put it. When he said he came to her families house one day, walked in and the kids were at the computer with the boyfriend and the boyfriend said 'aren't you going to say hello to your children', how in anyway is that a threat or in anyway did he feel like his life was in danger. After that he asked him to go outside and killed him in cold blood, when the dude was defenseless. But hey ho he says he'd do it again if he had to, dangerous man.

Re: 'in defense'

One does not need to be armed to pose a threat. I'm not going to attempt to defend or attack Capt Bayerle so this is an aside. The law allows you to defend yourself with force equal to the threat to prevent serious injury or death to you or others. A 20 y/o male robber, with no weapons, poses a threat to an 80 y/o male. The 80 y/o is justified to use whatever force is needed to halt the attack. That does not necessarily mean killing. If he maces the punk and the attack ceases, great. If the kid keeps coming, reach for the next tool. If a gun is all you have, be sure you can clearly demonstrate you were in fear for your life. In any case, the focus needs to be on the POS assailant not the victim that defends themself.
