Sports : What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
People creating threads on sports boards that are disguised as innocent questions but really just a way to bitch about things they dislike. And ties.

Yeah, it's really awful, people talking about sports stuff they dislike in a sports group. What a bunch of as$holes.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Morons who shout "Get in the hole!" at football matches!

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Change morons to girlfriend and football matches to sexy time.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
-Bad officiating, especially at critical moments
-Loud drunks
-Long lines at the bathroom
-Kiss cams

How about kid cams? Kids on camera. Can be kids in the audience or disadvantaged or sick kids filmed with a sports team to generate goodwill and publicity.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Sure, kids are funny, old people making out is gross.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Poor sportsmanship by home crowds:
- Nationalism at the Davis cup events (tennis) - yahoos blowing horns and making jingoistic noises
- In football, the home crowd trying to drown out opponents' plays with noise
- In basketball, the home crowd trying to distract the visiting team from making free throws by waving crap at them
Also dirty play:
- Football teams whose style of play is aimed at literally crippling and injuring their opponents
Soccer, period. Hands and opposable thumbs are what distinguish us as a species. They are barely used in this sport. I find that awkward and dull.

Possums have opposable thumbs. So do many species of frog!

And running around for hours with their hands tied, figuratively, only to score about 3 points total.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Only an American would think hands distinguish humans as a species.
Countries where 'football' is king would never say anything quite so dumb.

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
A pair of hands produced the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
They also slit the throats of numerous women in Whitechapel.
You're confusing hands with the conscious minds operating them.

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
The hands and the brain evolved in tandem.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
So did the anus. Does the anus define humanity?
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
No, the anus evolved independently.

It defines you
There must be some kind of way outta here

That WNBA doesn't give in and give its teams more flattering - OK, sexier - uniforms to attract a bigger male audience. I don't think it can survive without a male audience.
This worked for women's tennis.

lol. The WNBA could play naked and it wouldn't make a difference. Why would men care about a bunch of mostly lesbian players that would lose to a good high school team? How they dress makes zero difference.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
My team not winning the super bowl every year.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
people that put a win or loss on a quarterback and nobody else
people that say quarterbacks are facing eachother when they are facing eachothers DEFENSES
people that cry a game was fixed when their team loses
people that root for the cowboys; despite having NO TIES to dallas or texas, simply rooting for them because they had a dynasty in the 90's and someone told them they were americas team

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
football players who drop the ball at the 1 in premature celebration.
NHL point system, should change to INTL rules so it's 3 pts for reg win, 2 points for OT/SO win, 1 point for OT/SO loss, 0 for reg loss.
Inconsistent strike zones.
soccer's offside rule. It should be more like hockey (but not necessarily the same). It's dumb how a defender can move up a bit and that puts a stationary attacker offside.
basketball. every aspect of it.

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
I don't like that basketball has become a contact sport. Elbows shouldn't be flying in basketball and no one should be using their massive muscular bulk to mow down defenders, cough, cough, LeBron. He's allowed to get away with it because he's the modern league's greatest player and that's his style.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
When talking about someone like Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens and saying that their numbers before they started cheating were good enough to get into the Hall of Fame, as if the cheating is magically forgiven or irrelevant.

100% agree.
Once you cheat, it nullifies everything you did. Ask Joe Jackson. He would have been a HOFer (once the Hall was created years later). But he took money to throw WS games, whateer he did in his career meant nothing.
Same with Bonds and Clemens. They could have coasted into the Hall. But they decided to cheat. So whatever great players they were before they cheated mean nothing. They're cheaters, plain and simple. No hall.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Coward
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Athletes thanking "God".
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
When people say the losing team/player in a championship game or series "choked". Rarely is this actually the case. Usually, the other team or guy just played better.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
Agree. The term "choked" is overused in modern sports talk.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
-The extreme reluctance to talk about luck, instead resorting to made up cod psychology - players being "Clutch", "momentum" or someone being a "winner" as an innate personality trait rather than a result of the victory
-The free hit convention in Football (soccer) where after you've taken a shot in the penalty area the defender can commit a blatant foul on you with no punishment. It's not in the laws of the game but it always happens, at least in the Premier League

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
1. - Wildly inconsistent strike zones
2. - The length of pro baseball & football games
3. - The smothering amounts of commercials, which is a contributing factor in the length of games
4. - The totally bullsh!t "let them play"as if the rules are different and fouls don't count during different games, or at the ends of games.
No trees killed in the sending of this message, but many electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Length of games is killing me. Run a play, get up to the linethen the reviewplayer hurt, commercial, back from commercial still no decisiondecision made.officials get togethergo to lineofficials add secondaofficiala don't know where ball should be spotted.team calls time outcimmercialrun play.review.commercial..At that point I start watching a movie because it's so frustrating

Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
MLB broadcasters who say "RBIs" which is every single one of them except Keith Hernandez. That would make them Run Batted Ins, and that makes no sense. It should be "RsBI," I don't care how awkward it is.
Keith Hernandez gets a pass because he always says "Ribeye Steaks."

I think "RBI" itself has become its own word in a sense, hence the plural. I'm definitely guilty of saying RBIs.

We all are, myself included, but it's wrong!! That's why it's a pet peeve; it's something entirely inconsequential.
Re: What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
1. Commercials. I didn't even watch the Super Bowl live. Turned it on a couple hours late so I could fast forward.
2. The last two minutes of a close basketball game taking 20 minutes to finish.
3. The automatic timeouts every 4 minutes in college basketball.
4. Baseball players running on the field from the dugout and bullpen at the hint of an altercation. They should make it like the NBA and have automatic suspensions for leaving the bench. To eliminate the 9 to 1 advantage for the players on the field, make it an automatic suspension if they take one step on the infield grass (or something along those lines). I'd like to see an end to base-brawls, especially the ones that are all talk and no punches.

Unofficial IMDB rules state that any mention of a basebrawl, regardless of context, necessitates the posting of this scene:
What is your pet peeve or peeves in sports?
What are you pet peeves in sports?
Mine are:
* Loud drunk douchebags at games who don't know other people exist
* Sports teams who reward their long time loyal fans by raising prices after winning it all.
* People who think Joe Jackson is innocent because he had a good average
* People who think doing illegal drugs to cheat the game is okay "because everyone was doing it."
* Annoying radio sports talk hosts who think they're a celebrity
* the amount of commercials on sports talk radio (see if you can get through 1 hour of KNBR)
What say you?
