Moonlight : Was Black a dealer? What did he tell Kevin about his life?

This is the third version of this question, and maybe someone will finally answer.

I couldn't hear the mumbled dialogue when Black, sitting in Kevin's restaurant, said what he was doing. I heard 'Head on a chopping block' and thought he must be employed by a big drug dealer, but it would be nice to not just guess.

He said he was 'trapping.' That told Kevin everything.

Of course, that wouldn't get picked up easily by all viewers, but trapping means to sell Dope.

As stated in the film, He and Kevin both did time. Kevin was able to become a cook. Kevin's reaction to Chiron's car shows us that he knows Chiron was definitely selling drugs.

There were many moments during this film where I couldn't understand what I was hearing. When that happens, I never know for sure whether it's the film's fault or my ears.

Thanks as well Dislost15. That scene had so much subtext and importance to Chiron's character arc that I wanted to make sure to not miss any details. You could feel his apprehension to meet up with Kevin again after what transpired in high school and I didn't know how honest he was being with him when he was talking about where his life had gone since the two last saw each other.
