Moonlight : Pt 3: Kevin is waiter, cook, busboy, and cashier?

Pt 3: Kevin is waiter, cook, busboy, and cashier?

In the final act, Kevin says on the phone call to Black he's now a cook. But in the proceeding diner scene with Black, Kevin is the waiter, the cook, the cashier, and the busboy. And he closed shop which would've meant emptying the register and turn down on the kitchen and washroom. We do see a cook (or someone else) when Black first walked in, but they disappeared halfway through. Kevin is quite the Superman to do all that.

figured it was a dramatic decision to better focus attention on the two men.

Hear, hear.

No doubt this was the goal.

I've seen the film three times and none of this ever occurred to me. It's somewhat funny when you think about it!

I know it seems petty, but half of all American adults have worked in a restaurant at some point in their lives. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought about it.

It looked weird to me too. But we can assume it was an off day. In the absence of other staff, he had to handle everything!

I thought it was more that it was late in the restaurant's hours and that he was supposed to close.

Times are hard. Kevin had to multitask.

It's that man again!!

Maybe it was a Sunday or Monday night - restaurants and bars usually have a skeleton staff when they know they don't get many customers.

And I would imagine that is the most likely point in the week for a drug dealer to go on a road trip too.

Re: Pt 3: Kevin is waiter, cook, busboy, and cashier?

Slow night, two or three people working. Kevin went into the kitchen to personally cook a meal for his old friend.

Re: Pt 3: Kevin is waiter, cook, busboy, and cashier?

I think he said he was the cook on the phone because it was the most specialized role? It did seem he really enjoyed making the chef special. I was surprised it was more a diner (filled with white people) then a restaurant. Did anyone pick up on that? Only white people? For a moment when the diner emptied out and Black gazed at the door, I thought he was going to do something bad, like steal the money out of the register, or hurt Kevin. I am glad it didn't end that way!!

WTF are you on about?

The diner had multiple races. There was an older Hispanic man by himself. The second worker/cook was black. There were two black women dining together. There were two white women dining together. And there were two other women that looked white, but could have also been Hispanic because they both had perms (and it's Miami).
