Moonlight : Best acting performance in Moonlight?

There were so many outstanding performances in this film, it's hard to select one as the very best. If forced to,I would pick British actress Naomie Harris, who played Little/Chiron/Black's mother. And if there were an Oscar for Casting Director, this film would win it.

Mahershala Ali as the drug dealer or the middle actor who played Chiron. I actually didn't think Naomie Harris was that good in the movie. She was better in the third act as the older, repentant version of the character, but she overacted in the earlier parts of the film.

Definitely either the actor that played Chiron or the actor that played Black. Even though neither of them really had much dialogue it didn't matter because they didn't need it

My two favourites were Mahershala Ali in the first part as Juan, Ashton Sanders as Chiron in the middle part.

Yep, Middle Part Chiron definitely had the most powerful performances, and Maher is Juan, and Naomi Harris' character was good too.. Lol..

Naomi harris & Mahershala ali both in their final scenes with chiron were soo beautiful and made me tear up and feel SO many things, they deserve a lot of recognition for just those minutes.

Ashton Sanders

IMO, the only one who somewhat deserve to be nominated is Naomie Harris. But even her performance to me is really nothing special. It is somewhat bordering on soap opera melodrama.

But she did put a lot of effort for a supporting role that transitioned over time. She's the only character played by the same actor in multiple generations.

Whether that warrants an actual nomination when other performances from other movies is considered is debatable.

The three actors who played Chiron were excellent, but i'm not surprised they didn't pick up any noms today. Kids usually have a very hard time getting nominations and the older Chiron might have gotten a supporting nod if not for Mahershala Ali not getting one. Very rare for two actors from the same film to score a nomination too. But you asked who I would pick to really win. I too agree with you, I think it's Naomie Harris all the way who has the best chance to actually win. She is very good at playing just how messed up the drugs have made her.

Andre Holland was easily the best thing about this film.

Janelle Monae is a SUPERSTAR. She was amazing in Hidden Figures as well. Mahershala sucks ass.

The best actor in this movie in my opinion is the Mature Kevin (the third Kevin) played by Andr Holland, he is so underrated. He is just brilliant.

And sure the mother (Naomie Harris) is top.

All three leads were incredible. I can't decide which I liked best. Their ability to be so still and silent, and still be able to emote what they are feeling and engage the viewer is some of the best acting of seen from actors so young. The director (and casting director) has to take great credit for teasing these kinds of performances from his actors.

They are all extraordinary but Trevante Rhodes and Naomi Harris blew me away.

Naomie Harris was actually my least favorite performance in the movie.

All of them were good though I think Ali gave the best performance.
