Jane the Virgin : Confused about Michael's job…

Confused about Michael's job…

Maybe I missed something, but wasn't desk duty just temporary? So, because he's temporarily been "demoted" he quits his entire career which he loves and tries to find something completely new?! Even going as far as considering law school because he "thinks he would like it." Seems like a good enough reason to go into massive debt and start a brand new career you know next to nothing about (other than interacting with lawyers at work).

Also, is Jane's waitressing job their only source of income now?

Re: Confused about Michael's job…

I thought Jane was someone's assistant? That Professor Donaldson hooked her up? She also waitresses at the Marbella.

Totally agree - JTV dropped the ball with Michael's job. He was shot and just needs to recover enough to pass the physical. What, did the shooting render him unfit for life? It makes no sense. The show acts like it doesn't know the demotion was temporary. Also, since it was due to physical condition, why would he be barred from office stuff like interrogations? He's simply not strong enough to go in the field. Makes no sense he couldn't play a role in other aspects of an investigation.

Re: Confused about Michael's job…

He failed his physical, and apparently he only gets one chance to pass? I wish they would have explained this too. Anyone know a cop they can ask? lol

What the hell is a Stiles?

Re: Confused about Michael's job…

I agree.

Why would he want to be a lawyer after quitting a job for being miserable doing desk duty? Does he not know that working in law involves a lot desk duty, such as drafting documents, legal research, and literally sitting all day in an office or in court?

I just don't understand why the writers chose this job for Michael given his reasons for quitting the police force. I thought the private investigator would be a perfect job for him since he is so eager to go out and do field work. Lawyer is just an illogical choice for him.

I just also don't get why he would quit the police force so abruptly. Couldn't he have asked for more leave. Police desk duty can't be that miserable especially compared to whatever new job he was trying out or having no job at all. I mean who would give up job security if Jane always worries about their financial status. Why would he quit a good job if his wife is a part time worker going to grad school for a literature degree. It doesn't make sense.

Michael on desk duty for life

Yeah, I thought this was weird. I think they will find their way back to him being a cop, because that's what he is

Maybe making him something else will be convenient to the plot somehow, but it's not like he can become a lawyer overnight.

They can easily have him work out some more and pass the next exam.
