The Girl with All the Gifts : Wanted to like it…..good cast, decent budget…….but
Re: Wanted to like it…..good cast, decent budget…….but
The film sat in the city too long. Got very campy after the first scene. The zombie with the stroller was great, but I quickly grew tired for finding a cat. Can't very complain about the cast, just the writing/location. Black man dying for food was dumb, leaving gear behind for a dark search.
Although somewhat off topic with this; "Train to Busan" kept camping in check, and I have that movie over this. Yes the, "Gift" does rise some good questions, but that is all and it. Not the king of zombie films, maybe queen.

I did like it till about 3/4 of the way through, scene where Mel scares of the other zombies by screaming at them was like something off the discovery channel with chimps. Really lame and the child actor is pretty weak and character unsympathetic. Whole thing wasted potential.

I agree..
Good beginning, but after that it gets boring.
The Movie needs more Actors, more "Story" around all whats happening.
Maybe a 5 to 10 min. explanation before the Movie starts.
It Starts with no explanation, you dont know whats going on.
Sure, they tell you on the way through the Movie, but i dont like such movies.
Even the decisions from the actors were bad.. Remember the Scene with the Store and the "Kids" who set it as a trap?
After that Scene, why they dont go back in the Store to take what they need?
No one is eating/drinking *except the zombies* in this movie Makes no sense
No one is smoking and so on.
Why is the big city complete empty? No survivors, really?
Cant believe that..
The whole Movie is unbelievable, with bad writing, ok actors and a very bad ending.
And what are the "Gifts" the Girl had? Yelling at other Kids? Eating Cats?
Its a ok Zombie Movie, but not more A IMDB Rating over 6 is funny.. i gave it a 4 but not more.

It did show Kieran eating from can foods he found, it just didnt show the other humans eating, food is sparse so they prob didnt spend much time eating.
How could there be any survivors in that city full of hungries? Even if u use the blocker gel they would still be hunted down by those kids.

Re: Wanted to like it…..good cast, decent budget…….but
I had exactly the same experience.
It seems the directors' beginnings were "Dream team" which explained some of my frustrations with it. A lot of the quality, delivery and casting in this movie did feel very soap-like.
Then that knowledge just made even more frustrated. This is not a young inexperienced director, the "that'll do" attitude toward some of the line delivery attempts is disappointing. There is no excuse for it, in a soap you usually have to turn over episode after episode quickly, in a movie you have all the time and takes you need to get it right, but he couldn't be bothered.
The casting of the girl was poor (not her fault), honestly they should have taken liberties with the original material and made the kids a few years older just to be able to cast someone with more experience.
One step too far for me was the "it would end the world" line about the found pod/seed, 5 minutes later she explained WHY. Seriously, reverse those those two lines and spare us all the cringe.
Really wanted to like a British movie of this type, but it just made me want to watch 28 days later again to remember it can be done, and well.

The cast were game, and the movie actually looked great, but the plot blew chunks.
It just meandered from one lifeless (pun intended) scene to another. Characters personality traits changed from scene to scene. Maybe if the movie was better explained at the begining, then all the later 'Harry Potter-style' eleventh hour convenient exposition, wouldn't have seemed so cheesy?
And don't get me started on the (frankly embarrassing) child actress (but I guess certain 'boxes' have to be ticked?)
It's little wonder that this movie didn't get a wider releasebecause as much as I was looking forward to it.it was a real chore to sit through..by the 60 minute mark, I was begging for it end. And I can sit through dreck, with the best of them.
Surely I'm not alone in feeling disappointed with this movie?
(Cue, a bunch of people telling me that I "Didn't get it", etc)
Nothing to getother than the fact that it needed more coherency, better pacing and tighter editing.
"If you're lying..I'll be back"
