Special Correspondents : Im sorry, but this really isnt good
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
No need for apologies. Unless you're Ricky Gervais. In which case, commiserations. It's the start of a downhill spiral, when you have to make the move to straight-to-tv movies.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
It's not a straight-to-tv movie in the original sense, you muppet.

You pointed out a spelling mistake. Well done. You win not only the internet, but most probably life itself. I'll get my coat.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
I was looking forward to this movie since I generally like Gervais' work, but this was just very mediocre and disappointing.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
Fell flat and I like Ricky and Eric. That America person is irritating.

Derek was awesome. Especially the outtakes.

Life's Too Short was dreadful.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
imo lifes too short was way better than this
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
Unfortunately, it seems quite apparent that without Merchant by his side, Gervais just isn't that good of a writer. In fact, he may actually be a bang average one. The Office is a masterpiece and I thought Extras was very good (both co written by Gervais & Merchant). From there on in though, most of his work has been decidedly mediocre. Culminating with this atrocity.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
You're dead right.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
Huge fan of Ricky Gervais (mostly his TV stuff but found the majority of his other films decent or at least tolerable) but I couldn't be bothered watching this past the first 15 minutes seems so uninspired and phoned in to the point I found it unwatchable. From what I did watch, I chuckled a tiny bit at one point and never came close to finding it genuinely funny or interesting.
I would much rather watch his cat Ollie roll around on the floor for 90 minutes. That would honestly make for a much more engaging film

Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
he summoned it at the end, this is a low budget film.
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
did you mean film sucked donkey balls??
Re: Im sorry, but this really isnt good
He has attempted to make a very conventional film but doesn't seem to understand how to do that. I would suggest this is something Merchant would be better versed in having studied film and literature at university. Coincidentally all of the co-written work, whether amazing (the office), average (extras) or below par, (LTS) wasn't found wanting with regard to plotting, script, characters etc. Whereas everything that Ricky Gervais has attempted to do by himself (Derek - mind bogglingly bad, Special Correspondents - very poor) has basically been incoherent or has fallen flat. I'd suggest that he is trying to chuck out too much work and completely underestimating the time and effort required to produce something worthwhile. Maybe he's doing this on purpose because he simply doesn't care or maybe he doesn't understand how much work went into creating The Office and Extras. That seems an implausible conclusion to arrive at because he promotes himself (having basically cut Merchant out) as THE creator, but it is one of only a couple of explanations that make sense. It's not like he's just lost his spark and struggling to produce something else magic, something you could forgive anyone after producing something so exceptional but he's actually delivering completely unsatisfactory work that fails in even the most basic respects. Like, in comically bad ways. And personally I tend towards thinking he doesn't have the skills to do the job, a job that Merchant likely did. It's a shame if that's the case, because he's spent years framing himself as some kind of Dr Comedy, his head has ballooned and he has been given unparalleled access to people and resources and told he's the bees knees, and it's hard to imagine how, if it were the case that he's incapable, he could come back from that and ask for the help he needs to make more worthwhile stuff.

Maby not that great. But it got some good ol nuggets. The feeling that you are wathing Fox faking news and the give a dollar for a hero *beep* That is no fiction ,thats the truth. people are *beep* stupid. :D
Im sorry, but this really isnt good
I just dont know what this movie is, it sure appears to be trying to be a comedy, i remember chuckling twice but saw the rest of the "jokes" coming from a mile off and I just didnt think they were delivered well.
There were some "dramatic" sections later in the movie, but I never felt any tension at all about their situation, even the captors seemed silly.
And then there was the completely under developed romance with the co worker, you knew from very early on where this was leading even though there seemed to be no actual chemistry between the 2 actors.
Gervais has had some very successful projects, but ive realized Ive really only enjoyed his stuff that hes done with Stephen Merchant (Extras, Ricky Gervais Show) maybe thats telling, and I went into this movie really wanting to like it but im afraid to say, it just isnt very good at all.
