Games: Other Games : Cherry Idol 6 WINNER POSTED!!!!!!!!!

Round Six Themes

Hey guys, time for new themes! And hopefully this round will go much smoother than the one before. Two themes for this round!

Theme 6A: Roulette This is an idea I had that I thought could be fun. I made a playlist of 20 songs. A few of them are songs I like, most of them are songs I don't know, I just clicked a lot of sidebar suggestions on youtube. Anyway, not posting the list here, you guys just have to send me a number between 1-20, and whatever song corresponds with your number will be your song for the round. I sent the list to Murr, JUST IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO ACCUSE ME OF JUST PULLING THE SONGS OUT AT RANDOM ON THE LULZ. Anyway, send a backup number just in case two of you pick the same one.

Theme 6B: Any song from an artist you know I like This is an easy one. I talk about music all the time. I mention artists in my comments, I judge every idol game on the board practically, etc. It should not be hard for any of you to come up with at least one artist you know I like, so all you have to do is submit a song by them. You can make this as easy or as difficult as you'd like. I will not dock safety points for you sending my favorite song.

Have fun!

Why is he your champion?

Re: Round Five Results

Why is he your champion?

I saved him from a matador once. Stabbed the guy with his own stabby-things in the ring. Neil's been swooning over me ever since.

"Hello? Mr. Ohmygodcrunchcrunch? Look, spit out whatever you're chewing and start over!"

Re: Round Five Results

Ha, not quite. I made a joke suggestion and you went with it.

That said, I'm sorry for what I've gotten all of you into (but it will be funny, so I'm not that sorry). Also, I'll judge in just a bit!

Round Six Results

Sorry guys, I was tired when I got home and too lazy to put stuff together.

Special guest judge this round, old man Tom 182!

Misty
#11 Bloc Party - Banquet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdkmhquF60o

Henry: sorry for the short comments this round. I thought this was ok, good background music while you study or something but not that memorable. This song is over 10 years old? That video tho, my head hurts lol.

Tammy: I remember when these guys came out, they are from Quebec right? Anyways, they kinda fit the model of the time, but they just fell through the cracks. I think it was because they have consistently mediocre songs, but nothing that jumps out and grabs you as a fan. Meh

Murr: This theme is weird, because I can neither praise nor chastise you kids for your picks. Not a big Bloc Party fan. This isn't bad... not annoying... that little timing stutter is kinda fun. idk. I guess in 2005 this was kind of cutting edge... and with divine intervention, we got past that.

Cherry: When I put together the Roulette playlist, there were a handful of songs I knew on the list, but you all ended up picking ones I don’t know. I’ve heard this band before though. This has a mid 00’s sound, sounds like something that would have played in a party scene on The OC. Actually, maybe it even did and I am SUBCONSCIOUSLY REMEMBERING. Haha. Anyway, it’s kinda catchy, but it also just sort of feels like background music that you don’t fully pay attention to.

Pete
#13 The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEXHeTcxQy4

Henry: Oh I recognize this song. I think I heard it in a commercial or a movie. So catchy.

Tammy: HAHAHAHAHAHA are you serious bro? Who sent this? I really hope you are a hockey fan and this isn't just a coincidence. This is totes the Chicago Blackhawks goal celebration song. Duh, duh duh duh, duh duh duh, doo doo doo doo doo doo. Very catchy to the point of being annoying. But for me, best song of this theme.

Murr: Legit just the "Jean Genie" bass riff, turned into crap, then mutated into something, well... different, at least. Definitely a glam throwback here, but probably leaning a little too much toward the Slade side of that. And this dude ain't Noddy, ya know? Fun song, though. And whenever I say "glam throwback" in one of these things, you know you're not getting a bad score.

Cherry: There are a few songs I really like by this band, and I was thinking that I didn’t know this song, but then it started and I definitely do know this, so just kidding haha. This is kind of upbeat and fun. I like the video too, with all the burlesque girls. I went to a burlesque show once, it was fun.

Angel
#4 Angel Olsen - Shut Up Kiss Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nleRCBhLr3k

Henry: Odd song but I didn't hate it lol. I liked the video though, it was fun.

Tammy: Haven't seen a wig made out of xmas tinsel before. This is a song I might like hearing once in awhile but would quickly get grating if overplayed. The sped up chorus vocals are kinda cool. She seems like she has genuine talent.

Murr: Alright, back up from the microphone a little bit, please. Like, step back even just a few inches. That said, this song is very, uh... engaging. Some of the melodies are pretty cool, and it's definitely "colorful" and dynamic in its own way. I kind of love the instrumental part at the end, actually. Damn, there should be a whole song of just that. Alright, actually pretty solid.

Cherry: Lol @ you managing to pick the song by someone called Angel <3 okay, so I don’t really remember what I clicked on initially that suggested this in the sidebar, but I’ll be honest, going off the song title I kind of assume I will hate this. Let’s see if I’m right. WHY IS SHE WEARING A WEAVE MADE OUT OF CHRISTMAS TINSEL? Well she kind of has an interesting voice, but yeah, the song is pretty dumb. Like if this was a doo wop song from the 60’s, “shut up, kiss me, hold me tight” would probably sound cute and totally work as a song, but some tinsel haired girl belting it out with her raspy voice as she roller skates is just total lulz, and not really in a good way. OH GOD NOW SHE KEEPS GOING OOOOOHHHHH UUHHHHH WOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHHHH AHHHHHH UHHHH. Lolz.

Justin
#10 The Naked And Famous - Young Blood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdO85Qf4Poc

Henry: I recognize this voice from another song, do they have another song that's more popular? I thought this was good! I am probably not gonna rush to download it though lol.

Tammy: Cool band name bro. Two of the best things to be! Thematically reminds me of a more upbeat version of Youth by Daughter. This song doesn't have as much of a hold or a power to its tone. Just alright for me.

Murr: Didn't I just judge this... I think in Mas' game? This is dumb as all holy hell, but something about it is just so damn satisfying. "The bittersweet between my teeth / Trying to find the in-between / fall back in love eventually... You keep my secrets, hope to die / promises, swear them to the sky". There's this lovely adolescence to the lyrics. Maybe kinda contrived, but so fcking good for what they are. Oh god, why the hell is this so good? Ugh. I'm trying really hard to hate it and it's just not happening. Fck this song, this stupid fcking amazing battle cry of a song. Stupid fcking Kiwis.

Cherry: So I’ve heard of this band before, I remember seeing a post my teenage cousin made mentioning that he was going to see them, and idk, I think I kind of imagined like, harder rock because I thought was what he was into. But this is like electronica. Also, I totally do know this song, I think I heard it before and just assumed it was M83 or something lolz. Aw, my cousin and I have something in common! Also, omg his mom gave me a HELLO KITTY POPCORN MAKER LAST NIGHT <3

David
#2 Mos Def & Aretha Franklin Blend
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72zHqTyenno

Henry: Chill song. Liked her parts more than the rapping but it was a pretty good song overall.

Tammy:
This is kinda chillaxing. I can dig it, even if I have no credibility for judging this kind of song. I can dig it dawg.

Murr: I love Mos Def... oddly, when sampled, Aretha Franklin is so much better. Like, there's a tension/intensity and this swirliness you can feel building that's just not in "One Step Ahead". And here comes Yasiin (Mr. Bey?)! Damn. No one has a flow like him. The man just hears music in such a unique way that no one can match. He has this cool rollercoaster-like inflection, and can sound like he's trailing off in thought one second then hit this crazy good rhythm the next, with complete precision. Love this.

Cherry: This was a totally random thing youtube suggested for me, and I thought it sounded like an interesting combination, so I put it on the list. This is cool, it does blend really well together, although if I am being completely honest, sometimes her voice is a bit too shrill for me. I KNOW I AM A TERRIBLE PERSON, I CAN’T BELIEVE I SAID THAT ABOUT A LEGEND. Haha. I do like this though. Weirdly abrupt ending, though.

Artists Cherry Likes

Misty
Cigarettes After Sex - Affection
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5soixb2U6xM

Henry: Oh this is just what I am in the mood for right now. Pretty chill, nice voice, slow and good. I like this!

Tammy: Oh no! Songs Cherry likes...this should be terrible. :p I don't really get the whole smoking after sex thing. Maybe that's because I've never had a cigarette. Or sex. This is somewhat relaxing and stuff, but it's dull as...good elevator music.

Murr: Well done! I love the intro to this... it's so dreamy. The guitars sound like they were recorded from, like, 5 feet away. And it sounds so dreamy. "I know that you say I get mean when I'm drinking / but then again, sometimes I get really sweet, so..." <3 Incredible. So, obviously the lyrics here obviously aren't winning any poetry prizes. But in context of the song, of creating a feeling, this kind of ambivalence (it's really not a very sweet song... it's a kind of fcked up, co-dependent, borderline abusive song, but still loving). But that feeling... it's beautiful. Alright, so... with my old scoring system, this would easily get a 10. Unfortunately, 10s are now reserved for my absolute favorite songs. But still... great score.

Cherry: So this is the first song I listened to by this band, and it is also their best song. I love this, so much. The singer has such a cool, interesting sounding voice that draws you in and is kinda dreamy and soothing, and the music matches it perfectly, and the lyrics are great too. I mean it’s a love song where one party actually tells the other party to to *beep* themselves, it’s kind of beautiful, really. This is actually Murr’s and my song. Partly because I showed it to him right after I discovered it and he liked it a lot too, but mostly because I tell him to go *beep* himself a lot. It’s affection!

Pete
Otis Redding - Hard to Handle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZxN9iQM7OY

Henry: Cherry likes this kind of music? Groovy. Not bad.

Tammy: Cool stuff bro. Would we have even heard of the Black Crowes if not for this beautiful speciman. Classic song made for coverin'. Thank you for this gem and many others Mr. Redding. Good choice.

Murr: Brilliant singer. Odd choice for stuff Cherry likes, though. And odd choice for Otis. fwiw, "Just One More Day" would be a perfect 10, even under my new scoring system. Just throwing that out there... Really not crazy about this song, but his voice is fantastic as always.

Cherry: I don’t know what is going on here, why you sent this. Like I literally mention artists that I like all the time, so it’s not like it’s difficult to come up with. The theme was pretty clear and everyone else understood it, you were sending in people you know I like. I think there were two songs sent by him in 60’s idol and I scored them decently, but like, that was 8 months ago, and I have never mentioned him outside of that, so… I don’t even think I’ve heard this song before, nor could I name more than 3 songs by him. So like...while this song is pretty good, it really doesn’t fit the theme, so… Although I like that you continue to send songs about how much you are in love with me.

Angel
Bright Eyes - Four Winds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaV-nGQ5yqw

Henry: It's not a Cherry game if Connor Oberst/Bright Eyes doesn't get sent. Tbh if I was playing I would have sent this same band and song most likely but only cuz I like it too!

Tammy: Oh how lazy! Submit who everyone knows is her fav bae. Well alright, at least you didn't pick one of his boring songs (hint: 95% of them). This song is one of his few that has the right blend of melody and lyricism. Cool honky-tonk intro too. Solid choice.

Murr: So, to admit to my cynicism... Like, the things I bite my tongue and keep from saying to not seem crazy... this song says them for me. Actually, I tend to love Conor's political/social/business songs ("Let's Not Sht Ourselves", anyone?). "The Bible's blind, the Torah's deaf, the Quran is mute / If you burned them all together you'd get close to the truth / Still, they're pouring over Sanskrit under Ivy League moons, while shadows lengthen in the sun / Cast all the schools of meditation built to soften the times / And hold us at the center while the spiral unwinds..." Brilliant. Or oh oh oh oh (oh!): "Well, I went back by rented Cadillac and company jet / Like a newly orphaned refugee retracing my steps / All the way to Cassadaga to commune with the dead - they said, 'you'd better look alive'". Love it. Love it so much. I love it. Yes, I had to quote all of that *beep* I love it. This is actually one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs. Well, 2nd tier.

Cherry: I really wish you had picked a different song. There are SO MANY Bright Eyes songs, but people always seem to send me the same ones over and over and it’s kind of annoying. This was sent in my last season of Cherry Idol, I think. It’s not a bad song, but it’s also not even the best song on its album, which is one of the weaker ones. SO BASICALLY WHAT I AM SAYING IS, THIS IS GOOD BECAUSE IT’S CONOR, BUT LIKE, IN COMPARISON TO OTHER CONOR SONGS, IT FALLS SHORT. Why does no one ever send Let’s Not *beep* Ourselves (To Love and To Be Loved). Anyway, there are some lines that I like, but I am too annoyed to quote them, I DID THAT LAST TIME I JUDGED THIS. I know that’s not your fault, but still! You are the worst <3

Justin
Chet Faker - Talk Is Cheap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP_-P_BS6KY

Henry: I like this guy too but I haven't made the effort to listen to more of his music. First time I listen to this song. ANd I am feeling it yea, nice choice!

Tammy: Chet ain't no Faker boy, this is a solid piece of artistry if I ever did hear one. I don't know they right word for describing this man's musical style, but it is dark and greasy in a good way. Has a very tantalizing tone that draws you in and makes you feel like you are in a David Lynch soundtrack. Excellent!

Murr: Alright, so I kinda hate Chet Faker, no less because whenever I see his name I'm faked into thinking it's Chet Baker for a second. So, every experience with Mr. Faker is met with sudden disappointment when I realize it's Faker, not Baker. There's just something a little too... idk, polished? Safe? Homogenized? idk. He's not bad, really. Like, with a different arrangement, this would just be a cheesy R&B song. I do like the arrangement, though. And his voice isn't bad. idk. Whatever.

Cherry: <3 I love Chet Faker, and this is probably my second favorite song by him, and I don’t think I’ve ever judged it before, so yay. He has such a smooth, sexy voice, and the music is cool. If Murr said bad things about this, IGNORE HIM, HE’S THE WORST.

David
The Decemberists - This Is Why We Fight
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLSOzcEQjiE

Henry: Meh song, cool video. I ran out of things to say but after that white gooey thing they were eating, now I am hungry for some oatmeal!

Tammy:
Violence is never the answer boys and girls. Always use your words. I'm a bit late to the game in appreciating this band, but a lot of what I hear from them is top notch. This singer has such a nice, warm voice that really makes me focus on his words and melodies. Great job!

Murr: I always hate when people send The Decemberists, because I like so few of their songs, and I always think Cherry's gonna get mad at me. Can't someone just send "On the Bus Mall" and make 2 people happy? I think Henry kinda likes them, and Tom 182 is judging this round, and Cherry was obviously jumping up and down with excitement when you sent this, so you'll be fine. And actually, this is alright. Colin can get a little too precious at times, but this has some bite. So, good on that. My ONE complaint is that it's a little lighter-wavey... like, replace this with heavily distorted guitars, performed by some stadium rock band, and... I mean, it would fit, right? Can't you just see the cock-rock guitar pose, the gratuitously shirtless singer pumping his fist in the air, and the audience chanting, "this is why we fiiiiiight!"? Yeah. Still, it's good.

Cherry: T.ears. So many amazing songs by the Decemberists, so many of them I have never gotten to score before in games, and you send this one, which not only have I judged before, but I don’t even think is that good. I mean Colin’s voice is nice, and the music is okay, but they have so many songs that are much better, this one just seems generic. OFF TO LISTEN TO LAKE SONG NOW WHILE I PUT RESULTS TOGETHER, FOLLOWED BY THE ENTIRE CRANE WIFE ALBUM <3

Results!

29.5 + 32 = 61.5 Justin!

25 + 34.5 = 59.5 Angel!

30.5 + 27.5 = 58 Pete

29.5 + 27 = 56.5 David

22 + 33 Misty. However, this is the last round the Cher-Veto is in effect, which says that if the lowest scorer received a 10 from me, they are safe. Affection obviously scored a 10 from me (my only 10 this round, good job!) so because of that, you are safe and no one will leave this round!

Congratulations final five, take two. I will post your themes shortly.

Re: Round Six Results

Wow that was a close one. Yay to the Cher-Veto.

Re: Round Six Results

I'm pretty sure that the first idol game I ever played in (live idol), I sent in an Otis Redding song, and you, as a judge, Cherry, said that you liked him...which always stuck with me cause I think he's one of the best...on the other hand, maybe my memory is playing tricks on me lol

"Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"

Re: Round Six Results

I probably said I liked the song. I have nothing against him, I just haven't gone out of my way to listen to him haha. It's okay though.

Round Seven Themes

Theme 7A: Songs Dedicated to Cherry's Boobs This was Murr's idea. Who really knows what it means. You can interpret it any way you want. OR ASK MURR.

Theme 7B: Singer-songwriters with unusual stage names Pretty explanatory. No bands, the person has to write their own songs, and it's UNUSUAL stage names, not any stage name period (for example Lana Del Rey and Chet Faker are not weird names)

Some examples of things you can send (and do not be afraid to send these just because I said them)

Iron & Wine
City and Colour
The Tallest Man on Earth
Blood Orange/Lightspeed Champion (same guy, he changed his stage name)
Right Away, Great Captain!
Father John Misty
A Fine Frenzy

Boob Songs

David
Faith No More - Sunny Side Up
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz-st2cn3b4

Henry: Not sure I get this theme, but this song is weird and didn't like it that much. .

Murr: Authentic references to Ireland! Eh. Mike Patton can be hit or miss. Admittedly, it's been years since I've heard anything from him, and this... It seems kind of generic... sterile. Enjoyable enough, but... idk. It's fine.

Cherry: Not a fan of the title, I don’t like to compare my boobs with eggs! I’ve never really listened to this band much, but I know Andre really likes them, anytime anyone mentioned the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he talks about this band instead. Actually, I’d prefer to be listening to RHCP now, Anthony Kiedis would appreciate this theme properly. Um the song itself is okay I guess, it has a nice 90s sound which I like, not really a fan of when they keep yelling sunny side up, and like I said, this just makes me think of eggs lolz.

Misty
Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvAr9umnZ54

Henry: i just woke up from a nap, I am hella tired, and I don't need to go back to sleep kthx. singing this to someone's boobs is kind of weird tbh.

Murr: Hm. Joe Cocker has an amazing voice. Incredible, really. But I sort of hate this song. Well, I don't hate it, but I do dislike it. It's never even seemed like a real song to me. It's basically made for sappy commercials. Still, his voice is fcking amazing.

Cherry: Aw, I will accept you lesbian love proposal I like Joe Cocker, this song is pretty cheesy haha. KINDA GIGGLING AT THE IDEA OF SINGING THIS TO SOMEONE’S BOOBS.

Angel
Kelis - Milkshake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFDqW0Nfo2k

Henry: yassss finally something good and silly, perfect to match the silly theme. Legendary song, and quickly scanning the list song, you might be my only 10 of the round. Good job.

Murr: Yeah, no. Never liked this. Not even as a novelty. Kelis started her career with some really strong features (Guru, ODB...), maybe some decent-ish stuff of her own. But yeah, this song sucks. The Neptunes's production just makes it worse, as usual. Good, it's over.

Cherry: WHY. This song is so *beep* annoying. Like, seriously annoying. Also, I kinda assumed this song was about having a great ass, which is a theme for another day, kids. UGH FOR REAL THOUGH, THIS WILL BE STUCK IN MY HEAD FOREVER AND I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS YOUR WAY OF PUNISHING ME. This is one of those songs where I lower your score the longer it goes on rofl. The one positive thing I will say about this song is that it would be better as an instrumental. The drums are kind of nice.

Pete
James Ray - I've got my mind set on you
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k68Fob0QA_k

Henry: ugh not really in the mood for this now, I might need a couple of beers or maybe 5 before I get in the mood for it lol.

Murr: Pete, I'm guessing? I mean... obviously the best song of the round so far. Great voice, great arrangement. Kind of tragic - classic story of a singer being destroyed by fame (think he died of an overdose at the peak of his first success). It's so interesting, because though not incredibly polished, there's such a passionate delivery here. Like, you can hear someone who REALLY wanted it... then bam. Ah man, those background singers coming in around the middle... what an awesome little touch.

Cherry: I like how no matter what the theme is, you never send a song younger than 25 years old THIS SONG HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY AMAZING BOOBS, PETE. It’s catchy, but I swear you just pick songs you like at random that don’t meet themes whatsoever. It’s kinda sexy in an old man rebellion kind of way <3

Justin
Iggy and the Stooges - DDs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dRCNKT0vms

Henry: good grief.....

Murr: Ha, nice. I hate to say this, but as much as I love Iggy, the Stooges never should've reunited. I mean... obviously this isn't the same. I remember being so excited when they reunited, and it just... eh. And when Ron Asheton died, they definitely should've thrown in the towel. Not that this is bad at all... I actually like it a lot. But it feels weird giving The Stooges less than a 9, ya know? The sax/guitar interplay here is amazing. This song is really very *cool*, and ya know, you didn't tip-toe around the theme at all (though had you went for more subtlety, better Stooges songs would've been available). "Aristotle never covered this..." lolz. Best line ever in a song about boobs. Really, this is pretty damn good. Just throwing this out there for future reference: if anyone wants to send a song from "Fun House", I'll give it a 10. Don't even care which song - they're all 10s.

Cherry: Oh look at this, boys. A SONG THAT ACTUALLY MEETS THE THEME. Haha. It’s a decent song too, so that’s a bonus. And this is a newer song by them, so it kind of ups the sexy factor that old men are singing about boob appreciation. And it’s even my size! See, this is why you are my favorite, Hepdick. You appreciate the finer things in life, like my tits.

Stage Names

David
Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Swinger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt7O8gDy0DA

Henry: not a bad song at all but did it need to be 10 minutes? Come on. 3 or 4 minutes could have done the job.

Murr: Precious as fck, but for some reason it's making me all nostalgic. "I heard from someone you're still pretty / And then they went on to say that the pearly gates had some elegant graffiti / Like, 'we'll meet again" and "fck the man'"... <3 Fck, that's fcking beautiful. I like how it's subtly building as it goes on. He really needs to stop with that reverse delay thing, though. I also like the recurring religious themes (I love religious themes in songs, be they just symbolic or actually religious). Beautiful song. It's long, which isn't an issue for me. However, I'll say that for the length, it's neither completely meditative, nor is it especially dynamic - it builds, but definitely hits a plateau. Which is neither here nor there... it's almost over, and I haven't been bored for a second. I just feel like those qualities can make long songs even *better* than short songs. Oh, weird modulated/pitch shifted sounds! YES!!!

Cherry: This has a long opening. I love his voice, it’s smooth and soothing. You know like, I kind of forgot what his real name was, and I found a song where he uses his regular name and he’s singing with a girl, and I listened to it and was like hmm this sounds familiar and it took me awhile to figure out why, haha. Anyway, I like this song, the sense of loneliness and longing is nice. I like how it intertwines images of heaven with regular earthly things. Usually I try to pick out a couple lines I like to quote, but there are a lot of really good ones that I like here, so I won’t limit myself. Nice choice though.

Misty
Tallest Man on Earth - Little Nowhere Towns
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh1AF9HvoFg

Henry: i like this, he has a very soothing voice here, and while I am not in the mood for boring songs, this isn't boring to me. It's actually calming me down a bit. I mean I was taking a sweet nap and my dogs were sleeping on top of me, the little ones but then one started barking suddenly and woke me the *beep* up and now im grumpy.

Murr: So, the Shortest Man in Sweden is always better with a guitar than a piano, sorry to say. This is good, but kind of schmaltzy. And he's way better when he's just howling. It's a pretty song, but nothing really clicks with me. Still good.

Cherry: This guy is one of my favorites, so I was hoping he would get submitted. Also, Murr needs to STOP height-shaming this man, because you’re barely taller than him xoxo. Anyway, this isn’t one of my favorite songs by him, but it’s charming. There is something very idyllic getting lost in a tiny little nowhere town. I don’t like the part where other people join in singing as much, though.

Angel
Ladyhawke - Paris is Burning

Henry: im sad no one sent Gaga tbh. I mean look at the panel, Turner and I probably would have given whatever song a 10 and even if Cherry and Tom sucked like they always do and gave her song a 0, you still would have gotten a 20/40!!!! JK CHERRY AND TOM LOVE YOU GUYS. Anyway, this song. I mean it's alright. Too "background music at a small boutique on Hayes street, the music that you are not really paying attention to because you are wondering how the *beep* a business stays open by selling a pair of gloves for $60 but then remember where you are" for me.

Murr: Kind of dumb. You know in the early/mid '00s when there was that '00s revival? This sounds like that revival revived. That wolf is beautiful, though. I mean... yeah.

Cherry: I like how I compiled a list of examples, all things that I like, and you were like *beep* this, I am gonna send a poppy song by some girl who named herself after a 1980s Michelle Pfieffer movie. You know, I still can’t tell if you consciously troll me, or if after all this time you just still can’t tell what I will and won’t like. You might as well have just sent Lady Gaga for Henry. I’m surprised no one sent her actually, she popped into my head, but I didn’t put her on my example list because I only like a couple songs by her and knowing my luck one of you wonderful people would try to send that like, 12 MINUTE MOVIE SONG OF HER AND BEYONCE THAT ALWAYS FILLS ME WITH RAGE. Anyway, this is like a cheesy 80’s song, is it over yet?

Pete
Pluto Shervington - Your Honour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRWzk1w3dJg

Henry: this song is boring, it is boring me to death. I don't even get what kind of music this is but I am not a fan. Should have sent Gaga. Next.

Murr: I'm surprised this made Cherry's cut. His last name is actually Shervington. "I and I" is a phrase not used nearly enough anymore, btw. I love how this is basically a really elaborate way of, "hey bro, I banged your wife - and your maid - better than you" and, when finally locked up, "hey man, do you mind if I bang your sister - or your mom, whichever? I'm kinda bored". Eh. It's not awful.

Cherry: Sigh. I debated whether or not to even accept this, because I mean, that’s his real last name, so pretty weak as a stage name, but Pluto is kinda lulz, and I had already rejected your first choice on account of your illiteracy, so I grudgingly accepted this, but ugh wtf Pete, whyyy. WHY CAN’T YOU JUST LET ME HAVE NICE THINGS AND PICK FROM THE LIST I PROVIDE? I hate reggae. I still love you, but plz don’t make me listen to this guy again, this is so not my thing. Although, discussion question, we should all decide which planet nickname we would use if we had to pick one. I guess Venus is most fitting for me, for obvious reasons, being the SUPER ALPHA FEMALE OR WHATEV.

Justin
The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoNkcgdznjk

Henry: Oh this guy again. Well, if you're gonna be basic and send one of the people that cherry mentioned when posting the theme instead of doing your own research, then, might as well be this guy amirite. BUT WHY THE *beep* IS HE SINGING with that ridiculous accent? HE'S SWEDISH, STOP BEING RACIST OMG and I am skimming through all his other songs and they all sound the same wtf but that other one sent this round didn't sound as whiney. I am so confused and like, 60% awake so nothing makes sense right now. I need a beer.

Murr: So, I'm pretty sure Cherry has started doing Nat's "pimp spot" thing, yes? One of my favorite Shortest Man In Sweden songs, from perhaps my favorite album of his. "And I plaaaan to be forgotten when I'm gone! Yes, I'll be leaving in the fall!" So much love. Oh oh oh (OH oH Oh)... "Hell, I don't even care no more about cadejo now - if he's a white one or a black one on the trail". Damn, this song is great. I love this kind of celebration of fate, in all of these naturalistic ways... spirits and mortals and folklore and whatnot. So many songs that try to express some idea of "success" or stardom or whatever, and here's one that's just so gracefully naturalistic and modest... and open and pure. This is beautiful.

Cherry: I put you last because you were the only person who sent good songs for both themes, and I figured it was much better for me to give the other songs a fair shot by listening to them first, instead of a YOU WIN, EVERYTHING FAILS IN COMPARISON. Anyway, this song, I love it a lot. “I left my heart to the wild hunt a-coming. I live until the call. And I plan to be forgotten when I’m gone, yes I’ll be leaving in the fall.”

Re: Round Seven Results

Scores!

19 + 26.5 = 45.5 Justin!

17.5 + 23.5 = 41 Misty!

14 + 24.5 = 38.5 David

18.5 + 11 = 29.5 Pete

CHERLIMINATED: 15 + 13 = 28 Angel I'm sorry to see you go, thank you so much for playing, and you know I love you even though you are the worst all the time, always <3

Congrats, final four! I will post your themes shortly.

Hate me so good that you can let me out

Round Eight Themes

Theme 8A: Agnes Obel This was one of the artists that I wanted to get sent on the PIAS theme, and no one picked her, so now everyone has to send her!

Theme 8B: Marie I did this theme in my last season, but then I limited it to songs that have Marie in the title. This time I will allow songs that just have it in the lyrics even if it's not in the title. It has to be Marie though. No Maria. No Mary. I'm sure Pete will find a way to mess this up anyway <3

Have fun!

Hate me so good that you can let me out

Re: Round Eight Themes

Sorry will do it right now

Re: Round Eight Themes

two of you sent the same song for one of the themes and I somehow was distracted and didn't notice until after I sent it out to the judges. I really don't feel like hunting that person down and PMing everyone again, so the judges will just score the song and you will both get that score. Since there are two themes this round anyway it shouldn't make a huge deal.

Re: Round Eight Themes

Youve reached IDGAF levels

Re: Round Eight Themes

I would love to post results sometime but I am still waiting on all judges not named Henry lol.

Re: Round Eight Themes

Il do it tonight

Round Eight Results!

Turner has apparently been judging for the the last two days, so I'll just skip him as usual.

Agnes:

Misty and Justin (MY MISTAKE XOXO)
Agnes Obel - Familiar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32kYH6XZrIo

Henry: Nice voice and I like the music!

Murr: I love that pizzicato-like sound. Lovely arrangement, and that pitched down voice is actually very effective and creates a cool vibe. BEST SONG OF THE ROUND! / I hate that pizzicato-like sound. Horrible arrangement, and that pitched down voice is very ineffective and creates a dull vibe. WORST SONG OF THE ROUND!

Cherry: I apologize for not catching that you both sent the same song before I sent it out. I also apologize at this round taking forever. I’ve been crazy busy lately. Also, my judges kind of suck . Anyway, this is a great choice, this is from her newest album, which I haven’t really listened to in it’s entirety, but I do know this song, and I like it a lot. She has a cool, clear voice, and then I like the part where the male sings too. She has such an interesting baroque pop style that I am really a fan of. I love the mix of classical sounding instruments with the modern vocals and stylization.

Pete
Agnes Obel - Mary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoBT59xRElU

Henry: She has a nice voice like I said, but this one was not as good. Good song to help you chill, but it's too early for this lol.

Murr: It's a pretty song. It almost sounds - the structure and melody, at least - like a traditional folk song. Has that sort of sing-songy element, but kind of haunting and it whatever weird mode.

Cherry: Lol @ you picking a song called Mary. This one has a beautiful, haunting sound. Parts of it remind me of like, something you’d hear at church. You could just listen to this and kind of trance out for 5 minutes. I like the fade out at the end.

David
Agnes Obel - Just So
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NmjJeNFUVU

Henry: See comment for Mary. I mean, I like her voice! But there are times when I amm in the mood for this kind of music, and there are times when I am not....

Murr: This is edging into twee territory a little bit. But also maybe a little more direct/more immediately palatable? idk.

Cherry: This is one of the first songs I heard by her, and it’s one of my favorites too, so I am really glad that you picked it. “Today is going to be the day you hear somebody say we need you wide awake” So haunting and beautiful. Snickers just started howling, he may or may not be trying to sing along. “Drink a toast unto the sun, to the things that never come, to the break of the day, that is all I say” Beautiful.

Marie:

Misty
David Berkeley - Marie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X5RZuPYRDI

Henry: A little bit more upbeat than the Agnes songs, so I appreciate that. I like this and he sounds familiar, is he the lead of a band or something and this is his solo project?

Murr: Ehhhhh... it's a pretty song, and a great arrangement. But it also sounds a little too, er... singer-songwriter cliche, maybe? I don't know... I'm tired. It's pretty enough.

Cherry: I’m really surprised no one went with Bob Dylan. Instead you all picked songs I don’t know. This is nice though, I like how it paints a whole sad, realistic story. He has a nice voice too, kind of a folksy sound. “Oh Marie, it’s not like me to fall apart.” See, he’s singing to me. I understand, David.

Pete
Albert Semprini / Natalino Otto - Oi Marie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Weh7CKYmNQ

Henry: This only gets a good score because I've been replaying Bioshock and this music reminds me of that game lol. But yea, risky choice bro.

Murr: I love that little intro. Wish it were actually part of the song. Why can't anyone send a song like that??? Anyway, this is great. Everything about this is fantastic. Semprini you, mothersemprini.

Cherry: What the hell, Pete. Lmao. This has like a minute and a half long opening, and it sounds like those songs they play in silent movie clips. Then he finally starts singing, IN ITALIAN, and lolz this is like 80 years old. I’m sure Murr enjoyed this, but me not so much.

David
Tommy Dorsey - Marie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEoLzQUinkA

Henry: lol another oldie I see. Well, I agreed to judge this game but honestly the themes have been weird AF but the submissions have been weirder so I dont know what I was expecting lol.

Murr: This isn't as good. Decent performance, but a little slow/dull for the song. Nothing too exciting about it... kind of just plods along. Not at all bad, though.

Cherry: Lollll this one is ancient too. Are you guys subtly throwing shade at me that no one is named Marie anymore? Because like, true. I hardly ever encounter any other Maries, it’s usually just people’s middle name. Anyway, this one is in English, but I actually liked the song before it better, I don’t like the guy singing along with the chorus and the whole big band thing.

Justin
The Blasters - Marie Marie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIF0_EaXRJg

Henry: omfg was the theme songs called Marie made before 1960 or something? . I like this one though, kind of catchy lol wait I googled them and this song came out in the 1980s?? I dont know whats what anymore.

Murr: You guys realize the name didn't have to be in the title, right? It's strange to think this song was once modern with a nostalgic vibe. Like, this is nearly 40 years old, but it sounds like it's nearly 60 years old. Maybe that's a problem with convincing throwbacks. Anyway, not bad, but not good.

Cherry: Oh hey, I actually know this one. MxPx did a cover of this that I used to listen to when I was like, a teenager haha. What the hell though, this band is from the 80’s? They sound straight out of the 50’s haha. I like it, fun song to end on.

Scores!

25 + 23.5 = 48.5 Misty!

25 + 21.5 = 46.5 Justin

21.5 + 21 = 42.5 Pete

CHERLIMINATED: 22 + 16.5 = 38.5 David I'm sorry to see you go, your song for the first theme got a high score from me, but the other judges weren't impressed, and your second song didn't go over well either. I know you are just happy to have sent whatever you wanted though, so thank you for playing!

Final three themes will be posted tonight.

Re: Round Eight Results!

Thanks Cherry. Good luck to the rest of the players.

Round Nine Themes

Theme 9A: Shapes It can be in the title, or just in the lyrics. Submit a song that mentions circles, triangles, squares, etc.

Theme 9B: Songs From the Last 5 Years Anything that was released after November 2011. Just so one of you contestants is forced to realize music still exists

Theme 9C: Let's Eat Grandma This is a duo I discovered over the summer, and both Murr and I are fans, and despite me trying to lure people into submitting them, no one has yet. I actually think there is a chance the other judges might enjoy them too, depending on the song at least.

Have fun!

People! Cherry hasn't even sent the songs out yet. Just so everyone knows when she inevitably shames us for not judging yet when we've only had them for 12 hours. <3
