Goofs : The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Actually, in the Matrix, that's exactly what Neo could do if he wanted to. While it probably is a goof, it's utterly explainable via Neo's powers in the Matrix as well. Like, Neo noticing the post to be bent so he straightened it with his mind instantly because he prefers to fight with a straight post. Something like that.
Matrix Reloaded-When Neo is fighting all the Agents with that post you can see the post is bending as if it were made of plastic. You can't bend a metal object and then have it straight moments later.
Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
I don't know about most obvious. I just noticed one today though in "Driving Miss Daisy." In one of the early scenes Morgan Freeman looks at one of Miss Daisy's old school photos (grade 5) dated 1896, when she would have been 10 or 11. Then in 1966 (scene where she talks with Dan Akroyd about Martin Luther King) she says "not a good question to ask someone who's almost 90!" So unless she thinks that being 70 makes her "almost 90" that was some pretty poor math on the filmmaker's part.

Cant remember what scene, but in bravheart, if you look in the distance, theres a white transit.
Its not what you know, its what you can prove.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Don't know if this was mentioned already, but the biggest goof I've ever seen:
The whole 'plot' premise of "Seven Pounds". He planned to kill himself by allowing a jellyfish to sting him, and then he would donate his organs to 7 needy people. UM, JELLYFISH SECRETE NEUROTOXINS...WHICH MEAN ALL HIS ORGANS WOULD BE UNUSABLE!!!!! Did nobody do ANY research on this before writing the script??! I know next to nothing about jellyfish, yet I knew that! Strange!
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Since this thread goes on for 20+ pages, I got a bit worn out trying to see if this goof was already mentioned. So, this might be redundant but in the Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) starring Errol Flynn, a car goes by in the background of Sherwood Forrest.
This is not an obvious goof in the sense that it is very noticeable. It had to be pointed out to me when I checked the goofs for that particular movie here at IMDb and then watched the DVD. However, once you have been made aware of it, it is a very obvious mistake. Therefore, I'd call it one of the most obvious goofs of all time.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
A continuity error in G.I Joe during the car chase in Paris. The black humvee is shot at, one of the doors is blown off and a missile hits the back of it but in most shots, it looks to be in perfect condition.
Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Interesting and humorous thread.
I have 3 from some older movies that I haven't seen mentioned:
1. Eldorado. During a fight scene, James Caan's character leaps underneath a running horse; it's obviously a dummy.
2. War of the Worlds (1959?) When the army is shelling the Martian machines, you can see the supporting wires on their vehicles.
3. Green Berets. At the very end of the movie (after Peter-san has been killed and John Wayne "adopts" Ham Chuck) it's supposedly early evening and the sun is setting low over the ocean... except the ocean happens to border the east coast of Vietnam.

"War Of The Worlds" (1953)--
--The wires supporting the Martian war machine models were not apparent when
the movie was projected in theaters, originally. Only after restoration,
and viewing on laserdisc and home video screens, are the wires noticeable.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
This was driving me nuts after reading some of this string...have yet to read it all, but I will...I love to hear about goofs...
I recently saw a movie and couldn't remember what it was (One Way)...had to go check...goof was SO obvious I had to mention it to hubby...very obvious
here is the page:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0484382/goofs
and it's the first goof listed. The curtain was just fine for most of the scene, while cutting back and forth between 2 people. She was sitting in front of window, and all of a sudden the curtain is almost falling down and very crooked for 1 cut to her...then it's fine again...GLARING! I don't get how anyone could NOT have noticed this and fixed it.
My hubby and I laughed ourselves silly over another, but now I'm unsure of what it was...possibly Ben Hur or King of Kings? It's a scene where there's a crowd ready for something to happen, and guys are bringing things out to a stage-like area. We swear one of those 'things' was a Peavey amp...not an 'obvious', tho
Good books by Bill Givens, such as Roman Soldiers don't Wear Watches. How many have seen smallpox inoculation scars as anachronisms?
And Commando goes without saying...

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Ooops...have another 1...rare movie for some, maybe?
In the Yellow Rolls Royce, Ingrid Bergman is trying to escape a town and a bomb hits...but the car disappears completely from the scene before the explosion.

I need to do a repost on my goof for Yellow Rolls Royce...
Ingrid Bergman and Omar Sharif are leaving a basement garage (?) and she can't drive for s**t...she hits some stuff going out thru the opening...
then it cuts to outside to see the car coming out...but there's no car there and the wall sort of explodes/falls down...there's lots of smoke, and you then see the car driving away...
clever car...oh, yeah...it IS a Rolls...didn't want to risk one??
if you care, link(s) to mymovies is available thru my bio...![[popcorn]](http://i.imdb.com/Photos/CMSIcons/emoticons/basic2/popcorn.gif)

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
In general, it's easy to spot continuity errors involving cigarettes (changing lengths back and forth) and beverages (half full to full to almost empty, etc.), I spot those all the time. Specifically though, two other goofs come to mind.
In 'Grease' just before the Beauty School Dropout number, Joan Blondell's character is carrying a stack of dirty dishes and goes to shut off the lights with her elbow, misses the switch by nearly a foot, but the lights still go off.
In 'Saving Private Ryan' Matt Damon tells the story about the last night he and his brothers were all together being before any of them leaves to join the Army. Yet in the scene where the Army chaplain arrives at the Ryan farm to break the news about the three dead sons, you clearly see a picture of what is presumed to be the four Ryan brothers all dressed in Army uniforms.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
I consider these historically inaccurate goofs .
Anytime a film is set in the old world countries before the invention of proper toiletries like soap,shampoo,toothpast/brush,hairbrushes and a bathroom for seeking relief.....
The actors depicting people living in this time looking ridiculously perfect!
Not to mention some of these films, when made in the late 1960s,the actresses had hair & make-up almost similar to the late 1960s.

You should know that by now. How long have the books and movies been out? Damn..
You would think killing people would make them like you but it doesn't. It just makes them dead.
Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when Hermione is jumping and avoiding the whomping willow branches you can see her cables lift her up.
In many scenes of every Harry Potter movie the scar is on the wrong side or he has no scar at all (this is very obvious to Harry Potter fans)
In the scene where Harry falls over in POA when the knight bus comes his sweatshirt is all wet and when he boards the knight bus he isn't wet anymore.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets there is obviously a toy bird glued to the cage when they crash into platforms 9 3/4.
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone..in one scene when Quirell is freaking out over the troll..you can see the Candles are hanging on strings.
There's obviously no lenses in Harry's glasses most of the time in the movies.
In Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince when Snape kills Dumbledore, Snape's wand causes a blue jet of light to come out when he says the avada kedavra curse. Us Harry Potter fans know it should be green. It has been green in the other movies too.
Just sharing a few Harry Potter goofs..

I just watched the scene again and the jet of light is indeed green but when it hits Dumbledore it looks sort of blue. I can see why it would be considered a goof.

Free Willy, 1993, Dir: Simon Wincer.
In the pool scene where Willy refuses to perform tricks, the orca can clearly be seen wearing a digital watch on its right flipper.
However, in the next scene the watch miraculously switches to the LEFT flipper!

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
in "BLOW", with johnny depp, they are counting money, which goes into a postal bin (i think). i forget the exact amount, but they say its like a million dollars
in the one bin.
when he goes to stack it, you are led through the house, and there are bins stacked from floor to ceiling in every room. looks like thousands of them.
later, when they deposit the money, its only around 150 million. i was expecting more like a billion with the number of bins they showed. 150 bins would not even fill one room.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
I was gonna contest this but you are actually right on. Not really that obvious to me at least but after rewatching the scene and looking for it its very noticeable. They say that the box he is counting actually contains 2.5 million and as he is walking around the boat you can easily count upwards of 50 of these boxes. You could say that he didnt deposit all of his money but the bank vault is full of equal sized boxes to the ones he is counting as well as multiple carts carrying around 20 boxes each. The funny thing is depps character says that he gives them 30 million and all he gets is that little book. So yeah, its actually a fairly large goof but I wouldn't exactly call it obvious.

The Devil Wears Prada
Opening Credits- Anne Hathaways black gloves turn into a gloveless hands holding a bagel and back again.
Ending-Anne Hathaway sees Meryl Streep about to get into her car and waves. Meryl ignores her and gets in but their is later a close-up of her in the car. When the camera cuts back to Anne watching the car drive off it is plainly visible that their is noone in the back of the car.
Or Harry Potter 5-
At the Hog's Head, this guy says the line 'The point is, where's the proof?' But while he's saying them, the camera actually is on Daniel Radcliff and you can see him mouthing 'where's the proof?'.
Titanic- The reflection of the camera through the glass door in the scene where Jack dines with Rose & the rest of her party.
And the sky seems to change from clear to having stars at night.
A witty saying proves nothing

The most obvious I've seen is in Hot Rod. The main character, Rod, is walking through a hallway with a laundrey basket wearing a t-shirt and underwear. He turns into his brothers room and in the next seen you clearly see him with bright blue sweatpants on. The funniest part is that when he was in the hallway, he was singing to himself "I do my laundrey with no pants on..."

Back to the Future, 1985, Dir: Robert Zemeckis.
In BACK TO THE FUTURE, Marty McFly is seen wearing a pair of 1940s slippers. However, the film was set in 1955, 15 years after the slippers were manufactured and 30 years before the film was made. This means that in the film, the slippers were actually 10 years older than actor Michael J. Fox, who at 35, was playing a character 10 years younger than the slippers he was wearing.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Jurrassic Park was full of goofs.
1- The magic cliff. People have defended it, but its a goof.
2- The doors of the ford explorer are opened, closed, opened all through the T rex scene.
3- In the beginning of the film, the computer shows a dinosaur underground which Grant ID's as velocirator. Velociraptors have only been found in Asia.
4- On the Mr DNA ride, Grant, Ellie, and Malcom have to strain to push the safty bar away from them. When they leave, Hammond pushes his bar away with one hand.
5- When they enter the park, Ellie grabs a leaf and says that tree has been extinct for millions of years. The were only able to clone Dinosaurs from fossilized mosquitos, not plants.
6- The triceratops is sick. Its never explained why or why its important. (I know, you have read the book.)
7- After spending a night in the tree, Grant finds a nest, holds up an eggshell and says the dinos are breeding. Its never explained why this might be important, what kind of dinosaur, and how it was able to get into the sauropod paddock to nest. (back to the book for explanation.)
8- After Ellie stays with the Vet at the triceratops, she's brought back to the main compound by the vet. He then disappears with no explantion.
9- Inside the compound, Hammond is eating ice cream because its melting with the power off. As he's saying this, he's sitting under a moving electrical ceiling fan.
10- the first dinosaur we see is a fifty ton Brachiosaurus. Grant had said the park ws only three years old, so how did it grow to adult size that quick?
The goofs go on, but these are the most obvious.
One of my favorite goofs was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. In the cliff/bridge scene, the thugees, who are supposed to be in India, fall into a river with American Alligators.
In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy threatens Belloq with an RPG (which wasn't invented in the 1930's!). As Belloq yells back at Indy, a fly lands on his mouth and he swallows it! Talk about being dedicated to the art of acting!
I find your lack of faith disturbing.

In "A League of Their Own" several of the ladies are shown trying out at Harvey Field (really Wrigley Field), with all their great catches, and throws, but, a couple shots of the gals was not the backdrop of Wrigley Field with it's signature Ivy covered walls, instead, some of the shots were of the ball-field in Terre Haute, IN. where most of the movie and games and bulk of the film was filmed.
Obviously this was a screw-up as the try-outs were only held in Chicago at Wrigley Field. Obviously poor editing on the try-out shots.

Bullit, during the chase scene the Charger understeers into a camera, and the car that the camera is either on, or behind. You can just see the white car move before the camera cuts out, and after this there is slight damage to the left front corner of the charger.

About 3/4 way through there is a big fight scene. Ace Frehley's character has been replaced by a black guy in Ace makeup.
He's obviously not Ace, looks more like Roger E. Mosely from Magnum P.I.
The only IMDB profile I have is Dutch7219. FACT!

In "Raiders of the Lost Ark," Karen Allen (Marion) reveals that she has the headpiece to the Staff of Ra on a chain around her neck, which she stretches out in front of her, looking intently at. The wind blows at the candles in a cutaway shot, and in about 2 seconds the camera cuts back to Marion and the necklace is not around her neck anymore. There was no time to remove the chain from around her neck. I noticed this the first time I saw "Raiders" at the theater. Also noticed the Belloq-swallowing-the-fly scene previously mentioned. :)
In "The Road Warrior" (or "Mad Max 2," whichever you prefer), when The Wez (mohawked dude) uses his grappling hook to rip the door off the tanker truck Max is driving, there's a shot of Max reacting, then back to The Wez, then back to Max, who clearly has a cameraman crouching in the cab of the truck with him.
"Desperado"---near the beginning of the film, Antonio Banderas and his two guitarist friends are playing in a club, and at one point there is a closeup of the friend behind Banderas to the left side of the screen, flipping his guitar and drumming on its back. Then there is a wide shot and it shows him doing the same thing he had just done, flipping the guitar. I'll admit this one was not so obvious to me and Robert Rodriguez revealed the mistake in the commentary track. He is famous for making good-looking films cheaply, and he admitted he didn't want to spend money for a re-shoot even though they caught the mistake in time. :)

Kindergarten cop
An action scene takes place in the female public bathroom. In the bathroom we see urinals. Couldn't the crew find an actual female bathroom to film in or can women in kindergarten cop world pee standing up??

Ha-ha! Thanks, OrdinaryDay, I'll have to check that one out. :)
Another I forgot, but I'm sure fans on the Star Wars board have seen for years: in "The Phantom Menace," when little Ani brings Padme and Qui-Gon into his house, Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson) says "I'm Qui-Gon Jin" and Natalie Portman can be seen behind him, mouthing his exact line. I'm sure a lot of actors do this if they've memorized the entire script, but this is the only time I've ever seen it captured by the camera. Has anyone else seen an instance of this?

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
THE GODFATHER: When Sonny is beating up Carlo, he clearly fans a punch yet Carlo still acts like he got hit. This might be the most obvious goof of all time, imo.
DIE HARD: After John McLane killed Hans Gruber's brother, and sends his body down in an elevator, the guy blinks his eyes before Hans lifts his head.

TruthPredator.
You beat me to it! That goof in Die Hard where the 'dead' guy in the elevator blinks is one of the most amateurish goofs I have ever seen.

1) T2 - The scene with Arnie and John Connor. Arnie is on the motorbike, trying to catch up with John Connor to save him from the bad guy, if you listen carefully both motorbikes go through about 70 gears.
2) Titanic - When Kate Winslet sticks her finger up at the guy, did they even know how to flip off people using the finger back in that day?

Umm, that's been around since the dark ages. It was to mock archers.
The middle finger does NOT go back just to the Middle Ages
> It was to mock archers
Utterly and totally false urban legend.

If it originated with medieval archers, the SOMEBODY would have mentioned it by 1500. I challenge you to find any reference to this statement written prior to 1900 (giving you a four century lead). I doubt you'll be able to find any mention of it older than thirty years.
So how old IS this insult?
Aristophenes, in his play The Clouds, mentions it as a commonly-known insult in 423 BCE,

and ancient Roman poet Martial wrote a witty response to the gesture

Anyone who thinks a person in 1912 would not understand this, is ignorant of 23 centuries of western culture.

Re: The Most Obvious Goof Of All Time?
Transformers 2- It takes atleast 7 hours to drive from morocco(The place that they got the arc thinger at) to Cairo. They managed to do this in like twenty minutes. That entire movie was goof after goof after goof.
Matrix Reloaded-When Neo is fighting all the Agents with that post you can see the post is bending as if it were made of plastic. You can't bend a metal object and then have it straight moments later.
Live Free or Die Hard-After the highway mess you can see that some of the destroyed cars don't have interiors. This was probably done to save money but still..
Sunshine-Near the end when they are fighting in the room with the explosive device the scaling doesn't seem to add up. From an outside point of view the cube shaped explosive looks way smaller then the planet sized object that they fall down. Also the gravity doesn't make sense(Maybe I missed something.)
The end of the world doesn't seem so bad now that you're here.
