WRONG AGAIN!!!

This changed in 1942. When nickel was removed from five-cent coins during World War II, the “P” mint mark first appeared on coins produced in Philadelphia.

1980!!!

When did the P mint mark start?

In 1979, the “P” mintmark appeared on the new Susan B. Anthony Dollar. A year later, the P Mint mark began to appear on all almost all coin denominations except for the penny.

The subject is quarters. There was no 1942P quarter.

Since 1980 all of Philadelphia’s coins, except the cent, receive the “P” mint mark.

In 1979, the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin was introduced. Once again, the “P” mint mark appeared. The following year, the “P” appeared on all of the denominations except the cent, which still holds true today.

Since all the other mints were using mint marks it was not considered that Philadelphia should or needed to use one. This began to change in 1979, with the Susan B. Anthony dollar being the first coin to bear the “P” mint mark. The next year (1980), the “P” was added to all denominations except for the cent.

Re: WINNER!!!: ZR!!!!!: The Philadelphia MINT started putting a "P" MINT MARK…

I actually found a 1980 quarter in my change fairly recently. It was kind of worn from use, and at first I thought it was a much older quarter - say, 1960, which is before they made them "clad," i.e., it would've been about 90% silver, so it would've been worth something just based on its silver content alone. But, it was one of the "clad" quarters. So, I ended up spending it. Oh well.
