Film History and Meaning : Ideology-critic movie reviews

Ideology-critic movie reviews

Hey everyone,

I don't know how you feel about this - especially since this topic is ongoing since the dawn of time - but I really have the strong feeling, that most movie-critics kind of don't know how to really review a movie anymore. Of course it's totally fine to just give the readers a score or a simple direction - is this movie any fun? - but a real discussion about the movies content seems absent most of the time. For everyone who has seen "The Menu", the chef, played by Ralph Fiennes, brings the point home: There are artists working their entire life to create art, but the costumer just consumes it and, in the end, turns the art to shi*.

I discovered a channel by a german critic who now also produces in English. He always reviews movies from an ideology-critical point of view, which is, in this time and day, a whole lot more interesting than a simple "yes, this movie is fun". The channels name is "The Filmanalysis" - I wonder if you guys know more content like this? I highly recommend to check this channel out, but I am also very eager to get to know more critics like this one. He's always keen on building a fundament for his arguments and therefore cites quite a lot of philosophers etc.

Anyway: Have fun checking this one out and I'll be thankful for every suggestion :)

Have a nice one!

Jonas Čeika occasionally analyzes movies through a Marxist or postmodern lens. His channel is named "Jonas Čeika - CCK Philosophy".
