Special and Visual Effects : Greatest miniature pyrotechnics in film

Greatest miniature pyrotechnics in film

Just wondering what films you think have the most spectacular miniature pyrotechnics(I.e. model buildings, boats, airplanes or what have you bursting into flames and/or a thousand pieces) and please try to mention some more obscure films if you can.
My choices would be Brazil, the original Star Wars trilogy, and V for Vendetta for starters.

Re: Greatest miniature pyrotechnics in film

The Stuff factory explosions looked pretty real.

Independence Day

Re: Greatest miniature pyrotechnics in film

2nd vote for Independence Day. it was made when computer generated effects were still a bit below par, and they relied more on practical effects and slow motion photography instead (only the 'extra' F18 are CG)

Batman Returns (1992)- The destruction of the zoo.

Volker Flenske: (While torturing David) I don't know why you're doing this to yourself!

Terminator 2. The nuclear explosion we see in Sarah's dream was pretty impressive.

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

Re: Greatest miniature pyrotechnics in film

One of the best is the tanker explosion at the end of 'The Terminator' (1984).

The destruction of Corfu harbour in 'For Your Eyes Only'. It fits in beautifully with the one shot of the lovely Martin Grace (doubling Roger Moore)gettting blown over by the blast.

The plane into Las Vegas in 'Con Air'.

The plane crash landing in 'Cliffhanger'.

The Guns of Navarone ending.

The endings to 'Thunderbirds Are Go' and 'Thunderbird 6'.

The destruction of the tracking station in 'Goldeneye'.

The police station in 'Hot Fuzz'.
