In The Biblical Sense

Post songs inspired by The Holy Bible

I'll start with the entire Alan Parsons Project album, Eve, which is a metaphor of the creation story.

According to the second chapter of Genesis, Eve was created by God (Yahweh) by taking her from the rib of Adam, to be Adam's companion. Adam is charged with guarding and keeping the garden before her creation; she is not present when God commands Adam not to eat the forbidden fruit – although it is clear that she was aware of the command. She decides to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil after she hears the serpent's argument that it would not kill her but bring her benefits. She shares the fruit with Adam, and before they could eat of the Tree of life, they are expelled from the Garden of Eden. Christian churches differ on how they view both Adam and Eve's disobedience to God (often called the fall of man), and to the consequences that those actions had on the rest of humanity. Christian and Jewish teachings sometimes hold Adam (the first man) and Eve to a different level of responsibility for the "fall."

The album's focus is on the strength and characteristics of women, and the problems they face in the world of men however, the male songs seem to blame women while the two female songs attempt to encourage (or tempt) the male and try to change him.

An interesting concept, IMO, but I never get any female perspectives on it.

The gatefold cover art for Eve by Hipgnosis features three women wearing veils (two on the front, one on the reverse), with their faces partially in shadow. The shadows and veils partially conceal disfiguring scars and sores

The track lists -

1. Lucifer (5:09)
2. You Lie Down with Dogs (3:42)
3. I'd Rather Be a Man (3:52)
4. You Won't Be There (3:37)
5. Winding Me Up (4:00)
6. Damned If I Do (4:50)
7. Don't Hold Back (3:36)
8. Secret Garden (4:40)
9. If I Could Change Your Mind (5:49)

Re: In The Biblical Sense

derived from In the Garden of Eden, even though some argue it doesn't mean Eden, but the song IS a love song from the biblical Adam to his mate Eve

Though most of the song is a long ass drum solo

I first heard Lykke Li in the season 1 finale of Suburgatory. Tessa was driving thinking about her mom who gave her up for adoption and it was really powerful. Great series that was short lived.
