Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

On the scalp specifically when doing roots - did/do you ever get stinging sensations during dying and sore, itchy scalp afterward? This has happened many times before slightly with this dye, but seems worse today for some reason. I did patch tests prior, but no reaction. Always double shampoo after. Asked my Dermatologist about this and she said it can just be a reaction to the chemicals because they are generally harsh. I don't remember having as much problems when I went to the salon to have it done. I've also tried out about 3 different dyes for my root touchups recently and I'm getting tired of constant problems *sigh*. I haven't tried Ammonia Free/and or Demi Permanent so that is probably going to be the next step. Don't know either if it's this "Sensitive Scalp" developer or the actual dye? *slits throat*

TLDR….

Had similar problems (skin 'burnt').
Tried out nearly all dyers, from the most expensive to the cheapest.
Amazingly with the cheapest didn't have any problems.
But all dyers stink as hell, like chemical factories, even at the hairdresser.
Maybe it has a reason that "dye" sounds the same like "die"?

Our mother would've come up with the old saying now:
"Who wants to be beautiful must suffer."

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Thanks! I often wonder if Ammonia Free would feel less harsh. Some have said that.

Don't know, sorry.
Even don't want to know what's in these dyers.
The bad smell tells me enough.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Weirdly enough the dye I use now actually smells nice. It's also the first PPD Free die I've used so that might have something to do with it? Who knows lol

Hmmm…interesting, you may have a point there!
Contemplating about the dyers was nearby to check if there's a statistic.
Lifespan of people with dyed hairs compared to people who never dyed…or never died? ☺
Nope, will NOT surf around now.
As already said…don't really want to know.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Good post. Especially the last bit.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Looking at the post again, it really was long winded lol.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

I don't know if you have these dyes over there but I swear by this brand

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garnier-Darkest-Nutrisse-Permanent-Nourishing/dp/B0046U7MNI/

The dye doesn't smell too bad and the conditioner smells good.

As for the irritation, it could be a number of things from the shampoo you use to the batch of dyes. Do you dye it unwashed? That helps stop mine from getting irritated.

☺️

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Thanks! I usually go 2-3 days without washing prior to dying.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Panther, please don't use harsh chemicals anymore

I made that mistake on my sensitive scalp and it caused some scarring

You can use Sebastian Cellophane color which is vegan and won't damage your scalp

It needs to be applied more often, probably, but it's worth it if it means having something that won't burn and irritate your scalp

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

That's a Semi Permanent (direct dye) with no developer needed, right? How long does that last on grey's? Do any get permanently stained?

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Yes

It doesn't last as long as the box color, but it coats the hair and doesn't penetrate it

If you want, you can have it professionally done at first to see if it's something you would want to do at home for touch up maintenance

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Thanks! It looks like it might be promising. I have this stuff called Wella Color Deposit mask that is Semi Permanent, but I haven't tried it though. May give it a go first just to see how Semi works.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Oh, that sounds nice, I think Wella products are very good

I hope it goes well

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Yes I always go 2-3 days without washing it prior to dying. I'm not sure how much product (like styling stuff) you can have in there though. If it affects the way the dye takes at all.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

The wife had this problem recently… been trying to tell her to just let it go natural. Silver hair on a beautiful woman is super duper sexxy!

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

I agree I love silver hair. Is hers really long to have to let it grow out?

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Yes…very long… past her shoulders
Guess I never thought of the growing out part …she has I'm sure [laugh

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

I had contemplated this for a while too. It's either:

A. Grow out and deal with half and half till it goes all the way. Blends better if rest of hair is already light or blonde.

B. Have a professional do the whole thing silver which requires extensive bleaching, damage, multiple visits and money. And after all that it will most likely fade to ash blonde or a warm blonde.

C. (Which is what I may consider and my hair dresser suggested) - Start using Demi Permanent instead of Permanent on roots which fades somewhat, but blends the greys and color more so you can grow it out and not have a harsh line of demarcation with the roots showing.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

I'm really glad shaving was not on the list of options…you have a lovely head of hair!

Don't do the harsh color treatment…no need damaging your hair or especially your scalp as it seems it requires a more gentle regimen.

I'd say just let it go…you'd be a fox even with slightly different roots

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Thank you. :) I would never shave it on purpose. If it ever falls out, I have no control over that.

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

No…I wouldn't think you would…and I'd be mad if you did!

Re: Question to those of you who use (or used in the past) permanent hair dye?

Growing it out and using this on it would look gorgeous

There's a diluter you can mix in to get it very pale with just a hint of pink
