Taxi Driver : The last segment is ALL MAKE BELIEVE in his head

The last segment is ALL MAKE BELIEVE in his head

If you watch the video that is on here starting at about 1:37 you see Travis taking drugs and drinking a beer.
After that he then goes off screen to either sit or lie down and that is where his fantasy begins of the shootout and the "rescue" of Iris.
Think about this and why the last part are fantasies.

He would have been charged with murder.

It was mentioned that he was in a coma.
At the end of the shootout he did not look like he was about to slip into a coma.

He picks up the woman he dated earlier in the movie who has kind words to say to him after their real date ended in disaster.
Really. What are the odds of him picking her up in his cab?
It was a fantasy of hero worship.

Listen carefully to the letter narration by the "father" who wrote to him.
It has the same cadence, pacing and simple language used as Travis' narration.
Plus the dad comes up with an excuse to not visit him.
That is because the dad only exists in Travis' imagination.

I do not give a shit if anyone objects to this.
If they do then they have no imaginations of their own and are morons who fail to recognize that there is freedom of thought of movies no matter what the director or anyone else attached says.
Movies are open to everyone's own vision and interpretation.
There is no right or wrong when watching movies.

Out of curiosity, would you be willing to post your picture on here?

I've seen you say before that you're a male vegan, you have an earring, and earlier tonight you used the word "breeder".

Maaan, I bet you look like such a freakish individual in real life lol.

Man, I bet you look like such a freakish individual in real life lol."

Yeah, like that is really going to make me want to post my pic when a troll asks for it just so he can make fun of me and give me even more shit than he already did.

So how about if you share some personal details about you?
At least I have the balls to do it and am secure enough in my masculinity and am not a chickenshit virgin like you are.

Post your picture, bro.

Let us see the sanctimonious ass who will accuse us of being animal murderers if we talk about eating a turkey sandwich.

Re: The last segment is ALL MAKE BELIEVE in his head

If I recall correctly you have brought this topic up recently.

Yes, interpretation is all in the eye of the beholder, yet what you propose is something I haven't heard discussed before from the writer or director.

I've always taken what transpires as literal. Travis wasn't right in the head, but his objective was to save Iris and take out some of the human scum in the process. It was a catharsis for him.

It does seem a tad unrealistic that Travis appears to get away with his vigilantism, yet I feel that was done for audience pay-off too and Scorsese does tend to have a heightened sense of presentation and direction. Also, doesn't Betsy mention to him she read something about it in the paper when he picks her up for a fare near the end?

He blew away trash that was peddling off and sexually abusing a young teenage girl. No jury in their right mind would have convicted Travis for murder and there would have been sentiment for his veteran status too.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?
