John Wick : The end fight question (little spoiler)

The end fight question (little spoiler)

So, in the end, after killing all Viggo's henchmen, Wick is face-to-face with Viggo. "no more guns", "No more bullets", and they started fighting bare-handed. At one point, Viggo pulled out a knife. And Wick, holding the Viggo's hand, stabbed himself. WTF?? He didn't allow Viggo stab him, but simply pulled the hand holding the knife toward him and stab himself.

Why? WHY?? What are your thoughts?

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

to get the knife??

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

To get the knife. Seemed pretty obvious to me

I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

To stab yourself "to get the knife" is the dumbest approach imaginable. I just re-watched the scene. Wick holds for a second Viggo's hand, with the knife pointed to his torso, and then literally pulled the arm toward himself.

When someone fights against someone with a knife, he will do everything to avoid stabbing, because this means, ultimately, death. Wick kicked ass all movie long, but in the end he didn't figured a better way "to get the knife" other than this? Come on

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

That's actually pretty badass to me - allowing yourself to be stabbed in order to get a weapon? What could be a more badass move?

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

Remember he's pretty injured by this point. Tired aswell. He's thinking I'm stuck here holding Viggo's arm now, waiting for him to stab me somewhere that's gonna kill me, or I'll force him to stab me in the side of my torso where I can keep going and get him off me. Then get the knife and stab him.

Life or death, he's trained and he knows what he's doing

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

My thoughts exactly. He's like, "you wanna stab me, ok, I'm gonna help you", and then he offs Viggo with it.

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

Dude I was wondering the same thing. I keep hearing "to get the knife" which yea makes sense, but he's John effing Wick. You think he could get the knife away from a 60 year old Viggo in an easier way than stabbing himself. Didn't take away from the movie at all for me though. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

I work with a woman who used to teach self defense. What she has told me is that, if you are in knife fight, you will get cut. No matter how good you are. Full stop. Why not put the wound where you want it to be? Then you can twist the knife out of their hands and get to work.

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

*SPOILER*

I could be wrong (but I can't be arsed to re-watch it) but when he is getting sewed up earlier in the film does he not have a conversation about the seriousness of the wound and what damage has been done. And then the doctor says something about further injury to the wound wouldn't be too bad except for the stitches bursting. My point being..did Wick not get the knife to go into an existing wound, which to his way of thinking could not have caused any more damage than was already there?

Re: The end fight question (little spoiler)

I dunno how nobody has pointed out, but he pulls his arm in stabbing him, so that he can break his arm. He snaps that *beep* when he pulls the knife.
