True Crime : Who is your favorite serial killer?

Who is your favorite serial killer?

Personally Nilsen and John Christie. British make much better serial killers.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

I'll get back to you on that after I finish eating the postman.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

Dahmer. Very lethargic, even by serial killer standards.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

I think Dahmer's one of the more interesting yank serial killers.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

He was also very bold at living in one place and an apt.
Yes, there was a time when the police returned his dinner to him but he still did not get away with it.

Favorite?

Let's just say that I have always found this one an interesting case.

Ed Gein.

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

Ed Gein was a real loon. The best thing about Gein was he inspired some terrific movies, mainly "Psycho" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Also, a lesser known low budget shocker, "Deranged", made in 1974. That one depicted Gein's story with the most accuracy.

It's a strange question, but I get it. And there are some serial killers whom I find rather likable. I would be lying if I said otherwise.

David Berkowitz was/is extremely likable. He's got a teddy bear quality. I can't help it. I like the man. I could probably be his friend.

Ed Kempner has a likeable streak in him as well. He comes across as intelligent and self-aware.

My favorite serial killer, though, if she is, indeed, a genuine serial killer is without a doubt Aileen Carol Wournos. Poor Aileen. She never stood a chance. It's like God himself had it in for her from the moment she was born. In 46 years, Aileen was not afforded one single damn break. I watch those two documentaries about every other year and I sense a deep sweetness inside this hurting person. I love Aileen. Bless her heart.

But there's nobody who scares me as much as Albert Fish. I realize he is not a true serial killer, but DAMN!!! The man had ice water up to his creepy eyeballs. And I do mean creepy.

I have compassion for her as well

I can't say that I have a favorite. I thought Cary Stayner was very sexy, but serial killers are too dark and evil

I assumed Cary Stayner lost it because of his brother Steven’s kidnapping, but he said he always had thoughts of killing someone.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

Yes, he was disturbed. He had been molested as a child

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

Seeing you mention Albert Fish immediately reminded me of going to see my friends’ band play in Chicago. They played mostly dive bars and opened for a band Macabre often. All their songs were about serial killers. I still remember the creepy one about Albert Fish.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

I lived in Chicago for 15 years and went to my share of dive bars. If you're in the mood for the unpredictable, nothing tops a dive bar. By any chance, can you remember the names of any the bars you went to?

The Granville Anvil was my very favorite.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

I couldn’t say favourite, but there can be a fascination attributed to a serial killer’s psychology and behaviours. The likeable qualities some of these psychopaths possessed, was something they also used to their advantage.

I have pity and empathy for Wournos and perhaps that is because she wasn’t “technically” a serial killer in the written sense. Albert Fish was just a perverted sick creep to the max.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

————————

That's right. Aileen got no pleasure from her killings. She was not a sadist. She also didn't mutilate the bodies afterwards nor did she collect any gruesome "trophies".

The letter Albert Fish wrote to Grace Budd's parents was horrifying and heartbreaking. Evidently, neither parent had ever learned to read, so their son had to read the letter aloud to them. This is so hard to fathom.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

Fish was a molester and extreme torturer of children as described in what I read about him. It was sickening and I don't think I ever want to re-read or read anything else about him.

What turned him into this monster is the only interesting aspect to me.

Aileen chose her victims randomly out of convenience in the moment. She didn't covet, nor did she do gruesome things with the bodies. She wanted them dead born out of her own hatred for men and her main motive was to rob them only. I can't believe that her own background and upbringing didn't stir up some empathy for her from the legal/justice realms. She was just hated and hated and hated upon.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

She was just hated and hated and hated upon.
——————————

That's it in a nutshell. Everybody hated Aileen Wournos from the very start. I think you said once that her dark world was too frightening for people to look at and so they just decided that it was Aileen who was the bad one. She became the receptacle for their dark, foreboding projections.

She became the receptacle for their dark, foreboding projections.

They wouldn't even care to fathom her hellish existence and while a mirror was held right up to their faces, they attempted to smash it so they wouldn't have to see something ugly within themselves they were looking at.

Re: Who is your favorite serial killer?

Let'ts distinguish between serial killer and mass murderer.
Rank of mass murderer:

1. Mao
2. Stalin
3. Hitler

Need to object.
By passport the US had/has the best ones. *

One of the creepiest is Richard Ramirez.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Ramirez

And then there's Dean Philip Carter who isn't an innocent lamb.
But pretty sure he didn't do it. While he was cruising around high as a kite, stealing and doing other nonsense, two serial killers were on the spree in L.A.
He's on death row/jail since 1984.
For a longer did read every morning on the way to work one of his "Columns":
http://deadmantalking.com/index.htm
He doesn't talk about his case…or only in a few lines.
Got his appeal files online and somewhat 'surprised' how easily people get judged.
Same here in Germany, don't want to blame US.

*
Many US serial killers have german sounding surnames, e.g. Dahmer.
Didn't find a statistic but like to tease:
You 'stole' our best scientists and as a bonus you got the best killers.
