Re: The Sinner

First season was 8/10, second was 7/10, third is apparently unwatchable

Re: The Sinner

Watched the first season and never got back into it. Maybe I'll start season 2 this week.

Re: The Sinner

I don't know why that first video got removed.

I decided to give this a watch. I am currently on S1: E2 "Part II".

I still have no freakin' clue just what the hell is going on, or what's supposed to be going on. If anything, the further along I get into this program, it's just getting more weird. Nothing is being explained except that this woman comes from a severely dangerous and dysfunctional family. That tends to be the premise for most of these horror/suspense/mystery/thriller type of productions, with the underlying theme being extreme trauma; this is true whether it's a fictional story, or if it's based on real life events.

(End scene, new chapter)

Now I'm just starting S1: E3 "Part III".

Re: The Sinner

It gets clarified. Good show.

Re: The Sinner

I'm hanging in there. I'm still all shades of confused, but what I do appreciate is that they seem to be exploring a number of possibilities to explain her actions, compared to many that often try to steer the audience members into a singular explanation without room for doubt.

Re: The Sinner

Hang in there, it's a mystery, and it is resolved by the end.

The real, outstanding issue is, who is the 'Sinner'?

Re: The Sinner

There's some weird stuff going on, like when she's in prison, and someone, somewhere else, gets urged on by his female partner to "DO IT!" and he appears to step on her sternum, yet she's not really there with the couple, but then she wakes up while still in custody in jail, yelling out in excruciating pain as if that had actually just physically happened to her. Is there supposed to be a supernatural component to this?

Re: The Sinner

Just psychological.

Re: The Sinner

Thanks. The way this is playing out, I could see the potential to go in any number of directions.

Re: The Sinner

And what the heck is up with her weird relationship with her sister (especially as exploited by their mother as the mother, who seems crazy, BLAMES Cora for anything and everything wrong with her….sister?

Re: The Sinner

Lol. Watch the show, it is quality.

(Arguably the detective is the sinner).

Re: The Sinner

Get out! For real? Damn. That would be one hell of a curveball given the way they're trying to sell this series. Thanks for that! I'll definitely keep my eyes out.

Oh fuck, now this is familiar. Kneeling on dried, hard rice while praying for forgiveness. Sounds like something Carrie's mother would do while locking her in the closet. Damn, that hit home.

In the Catholic sense that we are all sinners. He's not a bad man, he just wrestles with his sins and his guilt.

I finally watched the following seasons. Both were better.

Re: The Sinner

What? You mean season 2 and season 3 are better than season 1?

This is really screwed up. I'll admit that since I've been up since around 3:30am, my cognitive abilities aren't up to maximum, but what the hell is this weird shit about the mother blaming Cora, even when she's behind bars, for somehow being responsible for "making" her sister sick and almost dying (or whatever?)

Like I said, I'm a bit half in half out, but that mother and her blaming attitude is grating to me and I can't help but want to bitch slap her for her crazy behaviour and gaslighting. (Unless Cora IS somehow making someone else sick?) This is the part I don't understand.

What a weird fucking series.

Re: The Sinner

Yeah, season 1 was odd, but it does all make sense at the end. It didn't leave me dying to continue though. Later, on a whim, I watched season 2. That one was more compelling because I immediately binged season 3.

Bill Pullman is the only constant. Each season is a different mystery.

Re: The Sinner

This is really a bizarre flick because so much doesn't make sense. Is there some type of weird thing going on with Cora and Phoebe? All these interludes feel….awkward.

It's been awhile since I watched, but it all makes sense at the end.

Re: The Sinner

You remind me of that idiot I met at the shopping mall who worked for a company that tested audience reactions to movie trailers. He has TV screens set in a booth. We had to look at the monitor while the trailer player. He kept showing us the same movie trailer over and over and asking us different questions about it.

We were annoyed..
