Aquarium of the Dead : This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Yet I couldn't stop watching.

Yet I couldn't stop watching.
Thanks. Now you've made me want to watch it, lol.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

I have two categories for bad movies: The ones I have to stop watching and the ones I can't stop watching. I just had to see what else would happen in this crapfest.

If you watch the trailer above, it pretty much gives away most of the movie.

In the movie, I think they used the same shot of a crocodile walking at least 3 times. I was like, "Come on, not again!"

This one character just lets a starfish suck her to death, because she doesn't think it's important enough to mention it to anyone (until she's at death's door).

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Sounds like fun!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

It's fun to make fun of it.

One character makes an obvious reference to the movie Sharknado, and the other character doesn't get it. Then the first guy claims it's a "boomer" joke. Sharknado came out in 2013 and it's already a boomer thing?

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Let me guess….

A bunch of red shirts will get it because we need to have victims for our entertainment for the critters to chow down on.
There will be one or two heros who survive it all.
If it is two it will be a man and a woman who will both happen to be of the same age, good looking, available and end up attracted to each other and make out even though we saw corpses pile up earlier because nothing gets hormones going like the screams of the doomed.

Just once I would like to see a movie where they ALL get wiped out by the creatures/monsters etc that go bump in the night.
Like Dawn of the Dead.

In these movies the creature always somehow takes it's time with attacking and killing the heros giving them the chance to get the upper hand where with others it does not.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

You are partly correct.

The movie does end with one man and one woman surviving. However, they aren't attracted to each other. The woman is mad at the man for being partly to blame for what happened in the aquarium, and she punches him in the face.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Whoa!
Really?
Now that is a switch!
I so HAVE to watch it just for that!
LOL

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

lol, I had a feeling you would like that!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Actually I found the movie on TV and have started watching it!

LMAO
This is so awful it is good!

Here is what is bad about it that makes it such a laugh riot:

It is like watching children have a closed aquarium all to themselves and they are playing pretend.
Like we did when the floor was lava or had sharks or alligators.

Notice how the vet is named Karen, acts like that Karen and has the Karen hair cut?
LOL

The doors just happen to lock for no good reason keeping them trapped in and emergency personal out?
Why the F would any place do this?
Speaking of emergency responders, I guess they live in a town that cut out a fire truck, fire gear and more than two firemen from their budget! LOL

"The fence is electrified. Now let me try to turn it off from this box that is locked but I forgot I didn't have a key."
Just more real bad writing and things that don't make any sense at all.
Or things from the imagination from the children playing pretend.

Why would an aquarium have an old rust bucket ship?
See the previous comment above.

The CEO and President of the aquarium also happens to be a politician who has no clue what upgrades the aquarium needs?
He has to go there, take a tour and find out instead of getting an email or having a mtg. in his office?

Notice how in one scene they show the fishes getting vicious breaking out of the glass and in the next they are all swimming peacefully around?
And the tunnel surrounded by water and fish in one scene breaks and floods and then in another later one it is all dry and put back together?

The mad octopus is walking around in the air ducts! LMAO!

Back to watch it and may chime in with more hilarious stuff from it!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

lol, I'm glad you like it! It's the type of movie that's fun to make fun of and talk about with other people (about how bad/stupid it is). That was probably the movie-makers' goal.

The full movie is my OP, so as long as it stays up on YouTube, you can watch it as many times as you want!

I have some other comments, but I'll wait until you finish watching. One thing relates to something I said in a previous reply; since you're watching the movie, I won't elaborate yet, because it will be a spoiler.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

OK I finished watching it.

Where in the heck did that giant octopus come from to attack the senator in that small room and how did it get into the elevator to try and do tentacle Japanese porn with the fireman?

Vivaca's death scene was really freaking hilarious!
And so was Skylar's by tusk!

"The desk has been slimed but I am going to work on it anyway."

Did you notice how they showed a blurred back when the croc walked by?
And you were right!
They showed the same shot of the croc three or four different times!

OK so they get out and act like it is all over but aren't all the fish and other animals in there still going mad?

Either the dialog in the script was really bad, or they are horrible at improvising or a bit of both!

This makes Sharknado look like an Oscar winner!
And on the subject of sharks, I KNEW that it was going to get the last one walking by them.
Did you notice how fake looking they were from the floor perspective?

Beth: I have a fever! I am so cold! I am burning up! I'm cold!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

*spoilers for others who plan to watch*

When you asked who survived earlier, I had forgotten that Karen survived too, so it was more than just one man and one woman who survived.

Did you notice the guy was standing right in front of the glass doors with an ax, yet nobody thought of having him break the doors with it?

Vivica's death scene was a major WTF moment. She made a sassy pun, setting it up for a badass octopus-killing scene, but then suddenly she started to fall for no reason.

I don't remember a blurred back.

Yeah, it was ridiculous how many times they showed that same croc clip.

What was with that scene where the guy thanked the other guy for helping him and not leaving him behind? They were in the "bunker" and then outside, and nothing happened in between. But apparently the guy saved him, and he had a new injury on his arm. It was like a scene was missing. He didn't seem to be referring to the part with the crabs.

Also, when that guy gets off the elevator, the other guy who comes running up makes a comment about the octopus, but there was no way he could've seen it from where he was.

lol, the woman with the starfish was an idiot. "Yeah, there's this zombie starfish sucking my blood, but I didn't want to interrupt anyone or inconvenience anyone with my problems."

Did you like the punch at the end? And they left the aquarium door open, so some of the zombies could escape. But the camera didn't zoom in on the open door or anything, so I don't know if that was even intentional.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

"Did you notice the guy was standing right in front of the glass doors with an ax, yet nobody thought of having him break the doors with it?"

The manager/tour guide explained the glass could not be broken with some BS and prob. made up things the writer came up with.
You can see/hear it at 34:24 in the YT video in the OP.

"Vivica's death scene was a major WTF moment. She made a sassy pun, setting it up for a badass octopus-killing scene, but then suddenly she started to fall for no reason."

IK, R?
And she grabs an ax that somehow just happens to be there and then loses it!
First she jumps at it face first with the ax raised then she ends up on her back falling at it?
WTF!

"I don't remember a blurred back."

You can see what I think is the first one at 29:51.

"Also, when that guy gets off the elevator, the other guy who comes running up makes a comment about the octopus, but there was no way he could've seen it from where he was."

Yeah! I wondered about that to!

"lol, the woman with the starfish was an idiot. "Yeah, there's this zombie starfish sucking my blood, but I didn't want to interrupt anyone or inconvenience anyone with my problems.""

Another WTF moment is where did all those starfish come from?
We saw Karen kill two of them that were attached to her.
They examined a dead one.
Then a bunch more just happened to show up on the floor?

"Did you like the punch at the end? And they left the aquarium door open, so some of the zombies could escape. But the camera didn't zoom in on the open door or anything, so I don't know if that was even intentional."

I thought it was unusual, out of place and again really badly acted.
The movie is so bad the punch did not feel justified like it does in other movies at times.
When the fireman takes him away the girl who punched him says, "Thank you!"
Why?
And then the camera starts to pan up the front of the bldg. for no reason.
LOL

Another dumb moment is where they went up into the ceiling crawling around and then are like, "Karen is taking a different way to meet us."
Well, why didn't they go the way she did in the first place?
Also, it did not look like a crawl space in a ceiling.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

She seemed to only be referring to the aquarium glass being unbreakable, not the glass on the front doors. The front doors looked like they should've been easily broken with an ax.

I'll check out the video for the blurs.

I didn't get that either with the starfish. And like you said, the octopus couldn't have been in that room to drag the guy away.

The woman could've even been arrested for assault if the guy wanted to press charges for the punch.

Yeah, the thing with Karen going a different way didn't make sense either, lol.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

"She seemed to only be referring to the aquarium glass being unbreakable, not the glass on the front doors. The front doors looked like they should've been easily broken with an ax."

OK I checked it out again and should have mentioned to start with an earlier time of 34:05.
The Senator/CEO brings it up about smashing through the glass of the doors.
Then for some reason she is talking about the aquarium tank glass and the door glass at the same time saying that neither one can be smashed through even though we saw fish doing it!
LOL
I can see why you would be confused and it is their fault, not yours, for mixing in the tank glass which makes no sense.

"What was with that scene where the guy thanked the other guy for helping him and not leaving him behind? They were in the "bunker" and then outside, and nothing happened in between. But apparently the guy saved him, and he had a new injury on his arm. It was like a scene was missing. He didn't seem to be referring to the part with the crabs."

I just watched that at 47:51

Danny said the bunker somehow lead back to the aquarium.
But yeah, how did they end up outside in that space?
And we saw his arm was already bandaged earlier.

Another thing that doesn't make sense is that they were on an old rust bucket Navy ship when they were attacked by crabs then went inside and downstairs on it.
That was the bunker with the basement.
Are we supposed to believe they were not on a ship or that they were and that the ship was somehow attached to the aquarium?

And it was silly how Skylar, the black dude, kept on talking about having armor!
LOL
Yeah, like armor is always just sitting around everywhere you go ready to be used!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Thanks, I watched that scene again. I had forgotten the door was mentioned there. It makes no sense for the doors to be made of the same glass as the tanks, though, and the doors didn't look that thick to me.

Yeah, the senator says, "The fish figured it out." It's stupid that they wouldn't at least try the ax on the door.

I just looked at the blurred back you were talking about. They should've just shown the same old croc shot again, lol.

It seemed like the guy was referring to something that had just happened when he thanked the other guy for not leaving him behind; it's weird if he was referencing the crab incident that had happened so much earlier.

I think the ship was attached to the aquarium and that the outside was a fake thing made to look like a ship. I don't know. Maybe we can find out what the real aquarium is (where the movie was filmed), and maybe it will explain the ship.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

First of all, I want to thank you very much for turning me onto one of the dumbest yet funniest movies I have ever seen!

I wonder if all those involved knew or meant for it to be as campy as it is.
I have seen better acting in pornos.
Yeah, that is how bad this is which makes it fun!

OK now onto continuing our convo on this Oscar winner!
(Oscar as in grouch because this belongs in the bottom of his garbage can. Unless he has scruples!)

"Thanks, I watched that scene again. I had forgotten the door was mentioned there. It makes no sense for the doors to be made of the same glass as the tanks, though, and the doors didn't look that thick to me."

The whole conversation doesn't make sense.
He is axing about smashing through the glass doors and for some reason she decides to talk about the tank glass, which again, we saw fish banging through as if it was rice paper.
Just answer about the door and don't bother with the tank.

"I think the ship was attached to the aquarium and that the outside was a fake thing made to look like a ship. I don't know. Maybe we can find out what the real aquarium is (where the movie was filmed), and maybe it will explain the ship."

Here is my tank…. I mean… take on that.
This is obviously a super, super lowest of the low budget movie.
They did not build any new sets for it and probably used a closed aquarium because of the pandemic and rented it dirt cheap for the few days of filming there.
My guess is that they were trying to get us to pretend that the ship was a building instead somehow part of the aquarium instead of spending a lot of time or more money looking for another structure to meet their needs.
If you watch the scene where they are first seen on the "ship" at 31:54 you hear Skyler mention "Pirate ship," but then Dan corrects him with, "Pirate Bay."
This says to me that they want us to think they are not on a ship. That it is some building that just happens to look like one and is part of the aquarium campus.

What do you think of the death scenes?
They are just too silly and ridiculous and goofy that it makes it tolerable and funny to laugh at!
1:02:10

And check out this wonderful dialog Vivica says when she sees the monitors are back online!
She sounds like as if she just won a day of getting everything she wants for free in her favorite department store.
"Ohhh… Look at all this!"

You think her pea brain is smart enough to be impress by your logic, charm and intellectualism? She was promoting pumpkin milkshakes, fragrances and other pumpkin crap to waste money on. Geesh

I'm curious if and when she sleeps.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

I agree, there was no reason for her to bring up the tank glass, since the senator didn't ask about it. I think they just threw in the line about the doors because they figured that way, the audience wouldn't wonder why the characters weren't trying to break them. They didn't think we would notice the subject was quickly changed from doors to tanks.

I mentioned in one of my previous posts that it must've been filmed at a real aquarium; so if we can find out which one it was, we can probably find out more about the ship part. I assumed it was part of the aquarium, since aquariums have some sections indoors and some sections outdoors. I thought they said that section was for kids, but I didn't see anything there that indicated it was a section for kids.

I hope they knew how campy it was and they didn't think there would be a lot of post-production work that would improve the quality.

Yes, the entire movie is ridiculous! I think high school students making their own movie would do a better job.

Now I'm inspired to write a script where filmboarders turn into zombies. Which posters will survive?

After doing some online sleuthing based on a name I saw above the doors at the end, I determined it was filmed at The Aquarium of the Pacific located in Long Beach Ca. where you can tour it for $37!

https://www.aquariumofpacific.org/

The only thing I found about a navy ship related to them is a package deal to also tour the Iowa, which I do not think is owned by the aquar.

https://www.aquariumofpacific.org/visit/discounts/battleship

So they either filmed it on the Iowa or else another old navy ship.
Maybe one of these in the mothball fleet located near San Freakpsycho.

https://www.kqed.org/news/11612408/rusty-navy-the-bay-areas-mothball-fleet-enters-a-new-era

I thought it looked old and rusty and not very tourist ready.
If you go, watch out for the giant crabs!
Which reminds me, we should get a sequel since Skylar knocked one of them into the ocean where it may spread the virus among the animals there!

Good sleuthing. The IMDb page just listed San Diego as a filming location.

I was disappointed there was no zombie penguin in the movie.

Gee. I wonder why they don't mention AOTD on there.
That should be their one jewel of their fish tanks!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

It's no fun when all the characters die.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

No but it would be more realistic.
Or have more than one or two that live at the end and don't have a couple be attracted to each other and make out as they so often do.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

There's plenty of movies made where a couple of main characters survive. There's nothing wrong with having a love scene either. I look forward to those scenes. I'm used to sex blended with horror though because I was raised on films like Friday the 13th, ANOES, Sleepaway Camp, Happy Birthday to Me and so forth.

The CGI looks cheap and shoddy too.

I don't think I will bother and it doesn't look like it has much atmosphere to it either.

Those, plus other things that I brought up, is what makes it so funny!

There is another out there called Sharktopus that I would love to watch!

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Do not miss it. It's very funny and Eric Roberts stars as an evil government scientist. And the sharktopus ROARS at people. Much carnage. My favorite ridiculous SyFy production.

Watch the trailer on You Tube if you dare.

No, don't. The movie is better if you have no idea what's coming.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

If you like bad movies and Eric Roberts, check out "Stalked by My Doctor."

Here's a hilarious clip:

"KIDS???"

I was hoping he would jump on the hood of the car yelling when she drove away.

Those Lifetime movies are unbearable.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Most Lifetime movies these days are about women who are killers and/or stalkers.

Yup!
The line and the way that was delivered was so bad it was funny!

As well as the whole scene.
I get it they want to set up a creepy doctor but damn that was forced.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen

They actually made sequels to that movie.

Re: This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen
