Movies with terrible accents

Movies I know that have terrible accents are:
From Hell (2001-Heather Graham's Irish/Cockney)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992-Keanu Reeves' British)
Gangs of New York (2002-Cameron Diaz's Irish)
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991-Kevin Costner's British)

Can anyone think of more. I would really appreciate it.

We don't talk about Bruno! No, no, no!

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Far and Away - Tom Cruise's Irish accent

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I love Keanu, he didn't do that part well 😆

Re: Movies with terrible accents

It was a deliberate casting coup though, with hot young stars Ryder and Reeves at the time which gave the film more appeal value to draw in the young crowd.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Ryder was great. Reeves, not so much

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I concur!

Reeves was terrible, but he looked good.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Oh yes

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Reeves was woefully miscast, but I remember reading he was cast to bring in the younger female crowd. His accent was atrocious, and I could suspend my disbelief to buy him as Harker.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

It didn't even SOUND British Oldman was phenomenal in his part though!

Re: Movies with terrible accents

No, he didn't sound British. Didn't sound like he came from any part of England.

I agree. Oldman did a great job with his portrayals of the aspects of Dracula throughout time.

Oldman is top tier when it comes to acting.

The first time I saw him was in Prick Up Your Ears - '87 and it really clicked with me how brilliant he was, when he was on stage auditioning as Captain Hook as his character Joe Orton.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

The Shipping News - Judi Dench's Newfie accent

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Did Costner even attempt to do British?

Sean Connery's Irish accent in The Untouchables - '87, which was his regular Scottish. He didn't even attempt at one and still won an undeserved Oscar for show.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

If he even attempted it, he quit fast He was SO wrong for that part. I like Costner and that was a nooooo.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I enjoyed Prince Of Thieves more than I thought I would and I like Costner too. He was so very wrong for Robin Hood though.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

It's still one of my favorites. He was just not right for the part. I felt zero spark with him and Mastrantonio.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I watched a clip of Kevin Costner's UK accent in the first Robin Hood movie, and no he didn't seem like trying. I can still hear his regular voice in his accent.

Colin Farrell was born in Ireland and he got the American accent spot on in Phone Booth. How come Irish/UK/Aussie actors are better at doing US accents whereas it's another different story when US actors/actresses attempt British accents?

I might have your answer. They spend more time playing roles that require an American accent. More practice the better they are at it. The more authentic it sounds.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

No. I don't think Kevin Costner attempted an accent.

Also, Kevin Costner always plays Kevin Costner.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Kevin Costner always plays Kevin Costner.
Yes he does, yet they manage to make it all work for the most part.

Its like Eastwood's acting, mundane in persona, yet still bring it to the table with an undercurrent of skilled acting technique that is cloaked only by stoic image.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Movies with terrible accents

no he doesn't. He's a better actor than you are.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Let's hope so. I'm not an actor.

Aren't you Lilith?

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I'm Ivy. Aren't you crazy?

Re: Movies with terrible accents

You reminded me of Lilith. Although you hopped directly onto the bandwagon calling me crazy. Just like you used to you snooty fucking bitch. You're the only female that acts that way to me.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I love your avatar Ivy. Its cute and cool both at the same time.

Thanks! I just wanted a girl with glasses. This one happened to be holding a turtle.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Brad Pitt southern accent in Inglorious Basterds

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Every actor in the Perfect Storm except for Mark Wahlberg. Their attempts at Boston accents were terrible. A bad attempt at a Boston accent sounds like a speech impediment

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Mark Wahlberg was born in Boston, so obviously you said that.

What did you think of Leo's Boston accent in The Departed?

We don't talk about Bruno! No, no, no!

Re: Movies with terrible accents

There is no "Boston" accent. There are so many regions within Boston even just a few miles apart, the accents can sound extremely different.

One of the most common ones is Dorchester.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I know there are many different accents with subtle differences, but usually only people from Massachusetts notice those differences. There is a general Boston accent that Hollywood tries to imitate but most actors can’t do it.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

The accents of the Wahlbergs, especially Mark, Ben Affleck (even though he was born in CA, he schooled in the Boston area), and Matt Damon are good demonstrations of just how right you are. It's no different than any other regional accents being different. A lot of actors come from the Boston area and you can hear how differently they speak.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I hated Leo’s accent. What did you think of it?

Re: Movies with terrible accents

It was okay. I've heard worse accents in movies. If you don't mind me asking you, what do you think of Heather Graham's accent in From Hell?

We don't talk about Bruno! No, no, no!

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I don’t remember. I saw that so long ago and only once

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I'm sure you can go to YouTube and search "Heather Graham From Hell". I bet you, videos will pop up.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I’m at work right now, lol. So no volume for me!

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Ditto. I am here for another hour.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I forgot to add Don Cheadle's faux-Cockney accent in the Oceans movies and Ewan McGregor's Southern accent in Big Fish.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Ninotchka (1939)–The entire cast accents the Russian name Ниночка on the wrong syllable. IMO, it's the most common mistake English speakers make with the language.

Another one is Brothers Karamatsov instead of Karamazov. Both letters exist in Russian and many have chosen the wrong one. It's just an ordinary "Z" sound.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I watched half of a movie today that was terrible. It had Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank. Unconvincing and embarrassing.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

That movie is The Homesman (2014).

We don't talk about Bruno! No, no, no!

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Yeah that's it. Oh my god. Hilary Swank's worst performance ever. It's probably the worst performance of that year and quite possible the worst performance in 10 years by a former Academy Award winning actress.

Re: Movies with terrible accents

Shannon Elizabeth in American Pie.

Grade "A" Fully Loaded
"Sexy as Hell"

Re: Movies with terrible accents

I actually thought her accent was kinda sexy. She used to be so hot.
