International Cinema : American, UK, and the rest of the world

American, UK, and the rest of the world

I love American movies and foreign movies but I can't ever seem to get into movies from the UK except a few. Anyone feel the same way? I think the UK actors are too proper. I never sense any naturalism.

Re: American, UK, and the rest of the world

Have the Brits ever done a Bond flick?

Beware the sound of one hand clapping.

Re: American, UK, and the rest of the world

I've never seen one

To bad. I would think they would want a piece of that.

I like Sean Connery and he does star in this really good movie THE HILL but its directed by Sydney Lumet. There's a great scene in jail where Connery is being a bit rebellious and the guard starts to quote a Queen from the 13th century and Connery yells how its no longer relevant.

Re: American, UK, and the rest of the world

Are you referring to the older or the newer films?
I suppose the people may seem more proper in the films of the 30s thru the mid 50s or so.
Perhaps the rest of the world is too casual.

If we are talking about the swinging 60s, I'd say that the UK were a fun bunch!

That's Guy Standeven as a vicar behind Lynn Redgrave.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: American, UK, and the rest of the world

He certainly had quite an unaccredited career as the man in the background.

Too funny!!

Re: American, UK, and the rest of the world

I'd agree if I only knew what the hell I'm laughing about.

the more classic ones. There's always going to be good stuff but besides "proper" even their best actors seem like actors where American actors seem a bit more natural in the 60s for example. But the acting for UK actors seemed to get better in the 80s along with some unique movies. Here's one I saw that had a rough start but was great by the time I finished

I guess it's just a matter of opinion. While I respect yours, I find all people and their way of expression interesting no matter where they are from.
